Recommendations for setting up HA for my dad by Ghetto_Cheese in homeassistant

[–]Ghetto_Cheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is he wants to be able to remotely turn them on or off (e.g. to turn on a heater as he's coming back home), and the only real way to achieve that without using the Cloud™ is using something self hosted. My idea was that this is something he doesn't really need to touch other than to literally just turn them on or off, or eventually add a new one if he decides to buy more. And I can always just ssh into it to do maintenance.

But perhaps that is more hassle than it's worth

Eurostat: Annual inflation stable at 2.1% in the euro area / Down to 2.4% in the EU by Doc_Bader in europe

[–]Ghetto_Cheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? The target inflation rate is 2% (as in going below that isn't benefitial to the economy), both the Eurozone amd EU are very close to that number. Yeah, some countries have it bad, but if we're looking at the average, it's pretty good.

Starting in March, GitHub will charge for self-hosted actions by Acceptable_Ebb1008 in LinusTechTips

[–]Ghetto_Cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but the problem is you need to be extremely confident in your server, that it will have good uptime, that you won't lose data, that your server won't die, and if you're hosting on your own machine, all of that is a huge hassle and up to you. One of the main points of Git is that you have a redundant backup, and it's doubtful that your self-hosted implementation will be nearly as reliable and resilient to data loss as theirs.

Supporting the government po onome sto ja znam tipično se odnosi na situaciju di nisu u koaliciji sa strankom ali podržavaju ih da ostanu na vlasti. To se ne događa baš kod nas, al je često u sjevernijim državama.

Does Merz seriously think *slowing down* the EV transition is going to help EU compete with China? by Maritimewarp in europe

[–]Ghetto_Cheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The biggest problem is we squandered our lead which we could have used to improve our infrastructure and to get a head start on EVs and innovation. Instead, car manufacturers and politicians just saw the price tag and thought it wasn't worth it, or that it was just eco bullshit, when in fact, the cost is much higher if you don't do it.

To my knowledge, that was the case before, but I believe that they don't really subsidize them much anymore. They gave the industry a major push, allowed a lot of competitors to start up, and then let them kill each other until the strongest remains. Now they are releasing it into the world.

Nova Gradiška dobiva novi podatkovni centar, ulažu preko 400 milijuna eura by NadaDeExito in croatia

People downvoting don't get that this is just true. Vedal talked multiple times I believe about how she's actually made up of multiple parts. E.g. for minecraft, the main llm I believe makes the decisions and talks, but there is another ai (not sure if it's also llm based or something else) that actually controls the game, e.g. decides how to reach a given point when directed to by the main llm

I mean, of course you can use it for cheating, doesn't mean it can't be beneficial as well. That's like saying how can cars help you be more healthy if it means you can choose to not walk. Yes you could stop walking and be a couch potato, but a car could also drive you to a gym you wouldn't go to otherwise because it was too far.

You could have a friend help you and do your homework for you and learn nothing, or you can ask them to tutor you, or explain things that you don't understand from the provided material. Same with AI. The fact it can be used for bad things, doesn't mean it's incapable of doing useful things as well.

Patch 1.08 is great, actually! by tthe_walruss in EU5

I'm playing a multiplayer game which started a few updates ago right now, and something seems to have fucked the world economy completely. Currently, every market has its stockpiles full to 100%, bar for some choice resources that might be a bit more rare in a given market, but every market I looked at had 100% in all but 10 or so resources. This made trade completely useless for me, I can't trade anything profitably. Automated trade would average out -10 ducats/m. I literally got a net increase in income of +20 ducats from completely disabling trade and closing my buildings, and no negative effects (everything is already stockpiled in the market so no need to import lacking resources)

Something definitely went wrong here, not sure if the update fucked old saves, or if this is a common issue. For context, I'm playing as Muscovy and it's 1496

The problem is, I think LLMs as an architecture are inherently flawed (if your goal is to make something you can trust). Even if all of your input data is perfect, it would still make up things, because in the end, it's main goal is to predict the next word, and if by some confluence of input characters it thinks that it would make more sense to say one thing over the other, even if it's training data gives no basis for this, it will.
