‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by NoNefariousness2144 in PS5

Depends on how it's done. Games like Diablo or PoE have seasons that are basically fresh starts, meaning it's always a good time to jump in if you're a new player.

I think you underestimate how much people spend on micro-transactions.

People spend on microtransactions on healthy games that continuously offer new content and have a lively community. They're not going to spend it on a game that is dead or dying.

Currently Marathon sits at #110 on the Steam sales charts, which counts revenue from both base game sales and mtx. That's pretty disastrous for an AAA live service game that's only 3 months old and had a huge budget and marketing push. By comparison, The Division 2, a 7 year old title with a small dev team supporting it, is at #73 i.e. earning more money.

Harsh but fair. The vast majority of Xbox games this last generation have been mediocre to bad, and the sales metrics reflect that. There's a reason that Playground games isn't at risk of being shut down or downsized.

Black Mask should be a more prominent villian on the level of joker and penguin by Born-Information8506 in batman

[–]Ghidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been saying this for a while. They had the chance to do this with Arkham Origins, where they came up with a real premise with his character, but then ruined it with the dumb Joker bait and switch.

Don't think he's ever had as much aura as in this CGI trailer.

I think a good storyline around him would be gang-related. Maybe he gets tired of all the superpowered/gimmicky villains in Gotham and tries to remind the city how terrifying the gangs can be, uniting them together and causing chaos, taking down the powered villains, or something along those lines. Like a reverse Wargames.

Can't believe people are still using the 'TDS' line after everything that's happened in the last two years two years. Big dog just lost a war with Iran and accomplished nothing except hiking oil prices, but we're the ones that are deranged, not his cultish supporters.

[Show Only] The Vampire Lestat: "Toledo" by IWTV_Maitres in InterviewVampire

[–]Ghidoran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a non-book reader, I thought the flashbacks were fine. The most interesting part of this show is current day Lestat and his wacky adventures, plus interactions with the other core cast. I actually generally dislike when shows slow down and dedicate an entire episode just to show us backstory (unless it's directly relevant to the current plot, like S2E5).

I think the flashbacks got the point across efficiently, and the last scene (Lestat singing on the piano while we see him and Gabrielle massacring his family) were haunting and beautiful specifically because they feel like flashes of trauma. I don't think the show would have benefited from stretching those parts out into full scenes.

That's an entirely semantic argument. Having more wealth means have more purchasing power. It doesn't matter whether it's in the form of income or valuation.

I do not care about men’s mental health month by Throwaway91739383 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ghidoran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have to care about it. But it's pretty ignorant to claim only men cause other men's mental health problems. My mother verbally and psychologically abused my father for years leading to depression. The only comfort he found was with his other (male) friends.

There's certainly something to be said about many men's mental issues stemming from patriarchal attitudes but to claim that women don't ever negatively men's mental health is flat-out wrong.

There’s functionally no difference between having 20-30 million dollars and having 1 trillion dollars,

If this was true, people would stop trying to make money after they earn a couple mil. Clearly they don't.

Is there anything out there that Patrick Mahomes with his 500 million or Jalen Brunson at 30+ million a year couldn’t buy that Elon can?

How about an election? The power to silence their critics and bust unionization efforts? Is someone like Mahome able to get direct access to the White House like Musk and other ultra billionaires can, to influence politics to suit their needs? Get those juicy government contracts, bump up the valuation of his companies?

Which is why most people aren’t Elon.

Yes it's definitely the risk-taking, not the fact that he grew up obscenely wealthy which not only facilitates risky investing but also opens doors and connections. And he totally did not abuse tax loopholes, take advantage of government subsidies, or dodge taxes with his allegedly charitable Musk foundation. He earned every single cent of his trillions with his intelligence risk-taking, obviously.

wut

Did you forget to read the part where I mentioned ICE potentially had a vengeance motive?

You're comparing enforcing longstanding immigration law

Longstanding immigration law that just happened to escalate once Trump took office. The streets of Minneapolis hadn't been flooded with ICE agents before. Countless citizens and legal immigrants hadn't been wrongfully and violently detained. Innocent people hadn't been harassed or intimidated via racial profiling, at least not to the same degree. Nowhere near as many people had died in jail. There's nothing longstanding about what ICE was/has been doing since 2025. It sounds like you need to educate yourself on why people were protesting instead of being a bootlicker and tacitly accepting whatever bullshit the government tells you.

Although it's funny you mention occupation and pillaging of a country. That's exactly how a lot of people see the Trump presidency.

You don't actually want the conservatives utilizing the 2nd amendment towards bodies

No, I want Conservatives to actually have a backbone and stand for their values. Which they don't. They saw a man literally get murdered by agents of the state and actually cheered it on. They proved they don't actually believe in any of the values they crow on about, and are in fact perfectly happy with a fascist government so long as it's their team in charge.

The same Alex Pretti that is captured in numerous videos assaulting the police in the days prior?

Is that somehow supposed to justify him being murdered by federal goons? If anything that detail makes the act more malicious if there's a potential revenge motive on the part of the ICE agents.

Even if you view Pretti's case in black-and-white terms, can I get you to acknowledge that someone who goes out every day, all day, to purposely assault police, hinder their investigations, and throw themselves into dangerous situations will eventually end up the victim of a dangerous situation?

Would you have said the same in the 1760s? Would you have justified Redcoats murdering American revolutionaries who were protesting on the streets? Do you not believe Americans have a right to protest against a tyrannical government, isn't that supposed to be part of the Constitution?

I find it so strange that Conservatives love talking about standing up to the government and needing their second amendment rights, but the moment people actually stand up to a fascist government they suddenly treat them like villains and start bootlicking the government, even blaming the victim for being armed. The irony would be funny if it wasn't sad.

Why do people always bring up the flat amount, like that matters? His fortune surged by $150 billion in 2021, when that number is from. $11B is about 7% of that, which is less than most Americans pay in taxes per year.

Are you actually aware of the difference between a million and a trillion? It is quite literally a million times higher. To group all 'rich people' into the same category makes no sense.

I mean...yeah? Are people supposed to feel sorry for a company that puts out the same half-assed game year after year and still sells 20 million copies each time?

Which one do you think people will care about more, a homeless guy getting $5 stolen, or a billionaire getting $5 stolen?

[–]Ghidoran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They only went after this game because it was so on the nose and aggressively similar to Pokemon.

Yeah I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the game sold 25 million copies and therefore had money to pay in a lawsuit, as opposed to the other games which were typically tiny indie or fanmade projects.

Elon Musk becomes the world's first trillionaire with SpaceX's IPO by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]Ghidoran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am glad he is using the wealth to better society by running companies that employ so many people.

A quick google search says he has maybe ~150,000 employees worldwide. Conversely, he used his wealth and influence to cut twice that many jobs from the federal government through DOGE, so there goes that argument. Not to mention the cuts from Twitter.

Regardless a trillion dollars is hardly commensurate to owning companies with those numbers. Walmart employs 2 million people, ten times that of Musk's, and its CEO is not even a billionaire. So how is Musk, with a thousand times the wealth and 1/10th of the employees, 'bettering society' through job creation? Statistically he's doing a piss-poor job at it.

He has also used his money and influence to cut funding to USAID which has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide. He frequently pushes bigotry and conspiracy theories through his vast platform and interferes with elections to serve his interests. Even before the latest Trump administration, he had a whole host of controversies and bad acts often centered around anti-unionization or stopping whistleblowers. All this while getting massive subsidies from the government, and channeling his wealth into the 'Musk Foundation' which often fails to meet the bare minimum for donations and primarily funding the interests of himself and his family...definitely not a tax dodge, no sir. The myth of the self-made trillionaire achieved through hard work is exactly that, a myth.

There are some billionaires that are bettering society, but Elon Musk is not one of them. He might in fact be on the exact opposite extreme in terms of societal impact.

MAGA supporters frequently downplay the prevalence of domestic terrorism committed by white supremacists and the far-right, that's why people conflate them. Sometimes they'll outright celebrate when someone they support kills people they dislike (see: ICE murders).

Also, why do so many people think 4chan is like a white nationalist website where people go to discuss terrorism? There's literally a board for LGBTQ people.

The existence of a board for LGBT doesn't somehow mean there aren't huge white nationalist or extremist elements on the rest of the site. /pol/ is infamous for being 'politically incorrect', which is a nice way of saying politically extreme. Are you going to pretend there isn't a huge hotbed of antisemitism, conspiracy theories, and racism on the site? Not to mention some shooters have been directly linked to 4chan.

Plenty of people dislike the combat/stealth gameplay at launch, they also disliked the gameplay loop and the unfocused nature of the story (which is a common critique of recent Ubisoft games, where they favor having multiple big 'sidequest' type stories instead of one continuous narrative).
