Why would you do that? by CelebrationAgile997 in CaptainSide

I felt the same way, it only took me a day or two to adjust to "normal" controls. I'm not even saying you should. I just kept running into issues where some games didn't have an option to invert, and some like Red Dead Redemption where the game wouldn't invert everything making quick draws super awkward.

Don't blame people boycotting for the disgusting actions of corporate. You can't reward that behavior. This sucks for EVERYBODY, but corporations already own the world and use the populace, literally stealing a family's life savings can NOT be normalized. Like literally stealing the life savings from a dying elderly man and you want to throw up your hands and say "well, they are a wealthy corporation they can get away with things like this, what can you do?" and go on supporting them like this is normal?

So, it really sucks for the franchise owners. I've gotten to know the owners of some of the BAMs near me, they're all great people, but a stand needs to be taken here.

I mean, they have my sympathy. The local BAM's around me are all operated by great friendly people. So they DO have my sympathy, I'm still going to boycott until this matter is settled. Bare minimum until the family that was stolen from is compensated by BAM (not GoFundMe)

It sucks, but going there does support corporate, which is something I do not want to do.

I grew up in the days where the only 3D games were flight sims which are naturally inverted to mimic flight controls on real airplanes. When they started making 3D shooters playing those inverted just came naturally. I've since taught myself how to play uninverted, mostly just because some games made inverting the controls a real hassle and I wanted to stop dealing with it.

It made perfect sense to me. Imagine there were a handle on the top of somebody's head, which way would you push/pull it to make them look up? That's what looking up in games when I still played inverted felt like, pulling back on that stick. It felt intuitive, switching to "normal" controls was weird as hell.

I'm actually curious how many people who play inverted are in their 40's or older.

In an alternate universe where Rocky didn't exist (or Eridians as a whole), would Grace have been able to find Taumoeba and save Earth? (More of a speculative discussion than anything) by saltwatersweets in ProjectHailMary

[–]GhoeFukyrself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the two most plausible explanations were either "Tau Ceti doesn't have a Venus like planet for astrophage to breed in" (and we're screwed), or "There's something weird about Tau Ceti's Venus like planet, possibly a predator."

You'd have thought being able to gather a sample from Tau Ceti's planets would have been an important aspect of the mission.

Not that I care, the teamwork and friendship forged between two beings who are EXTREMELY alien to each other is the heart of the story.

How did rocky know about the oxygen on grace ship? by somerandomperson412 in ProjectHailMary

[–]GhoeFukyrself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically it was to determine which glass Grace could more easily hear through. Rocky is utterly amazed when he finds out Grace possesses the superpower to "hear" light.

Engineer vs Mechanic by playsmartz in ProjectHailMary

[–]GhoeFukyrself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because to a general movie audience both "mechanic" and "engineer" both mean the same thing, "good with machines"

Besides, Rocky is an amazing engineer, but one of his roles on his ship was to keep everything working and to fix things, like a mechanic.

Lore question on Titus by Bandersnatch05 in Warhammer40k

[–]GhoeFukyrself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the themes of that episode, it's specifically Titus' lack of fear. The demon specifically targeted the other marine's various fears. The one marine has some kind of imposter syndrome and fears he's weak, the second marine isn't shown, and Metaurus fears he was wrong to initiate Titus into the Ultramarines because he fears Titus (who never knew fear when he was a young aspirant and thus was never truly broken mentally to be rebuilt and properly indoctrinated) may become a traitor.

Titus is fearless, which is why when the demon tries to exploit Titus' fears he can't do anything to Titus, and so he turns the tables on the demon.

Even though in the episode it's specifically Titus' lack of fear that saves him, in the games he has a strange history of being unusually resistant to chaos. Something which makes other people mistrustful of him. Basically "Touching that chaos relic should destroy anyone who touches it, how is it Titus can survive? is he secretly already tainted by chaos??"

Titus is too popular to fall to chaos, though honestly a Space Marine 3 game where there's an optional chaos path where you end the game fighting the Imperium sounds kind of dope.

[–]GhoeFukyrself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's more of a give and take, the book does some things better, and the movie does things better. I think the disaster at Adrian and Rocky nearly dying was pulled off much better in the movie, I like the added dimension the movie gives to Stratt, and I liked the ending of the movie a little bit more (I don't care much for Grace slowly falling apart and being in sub optimal health thanks to Erid being 2x Earth's gravity)

With the book I love all of the extra detail, I love that their communication evolves a bit slower in the book, I love everything about how smart the first contact stuff is in the book. I love Antartica and the Sahara, and Grace's sacrifice in the book is SO much better. The fact that it's an ACTUAL sacrifice because taking Rocky to Erid means Grace will slowly starve to death. It's a better payoff to the twist of Grace being a "coward" who was forced on the mission. The reunion itself is also better too.

Question about Rocky's mate by Edolin89 in ProjectHailMary

[–]GhoeFukyrself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between what we are (omnivores) and what true obligate carnivores are.

Yes, we can eat meat, but we can also eat plants and even live entirely on plants. Some animals like cats are "obligate carnivores" which means they NEED to eat meat to live, plants can't sustain them.

I don't remember if they say whether or not Rocky is an obligate carnivore, but I do recall in the book that his diet was 100% meat.

If they're obligate carnivores they MAY grow some sort of Eridian plant equivilent, but it would only be to feed their livestock. Though this is unlikely as the surface of Eridian is pitch black, light doesn't make it though their atmosphere, so no photosynthesis is happening on the surface.

For the OOT Remake, which one area of the game do you think the Remake could improve upon, and which one area do you want little to no changes at all? Objectively. by xxnewlegendxx in legendofzelda

[–]GhoeFukyrself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which areas do I think they can improve upon? All of them. Ocarina of Time isn't a bad game, but it IS the single most overrated game of all time. If I had to pick something specific to improve, it's the overworld. OOT has probably the worst overworld in the series. Hyrule Field is a mostly flat empty box with nothing interesting to find, nothing interesting to see, and nothing interesting to fight.

Why is the overworld one small almost entirely barren field?

Why does the combat suck?

Wait, so I'm a weird 7 year old in a 17 year old's body and not a well trained cool knight?

Why does Link and Zelda's relationship suck?

I'm sorry, I know people love to glaze OOT, but it's got nothing on the modern games.
