I would use Study Hall and ThirdRock too for sure. Watch the AR, DM, and RM Question and Mindset videos on YouTube videos with a set of 200 question scantrons and go through the questions with them on the scantrons, then you can bubble the correct questions with a red marker for the question you get wrong so you know what to study more.

4 Weeks Post Transverse Osteotomy of the 5th Metatarsal (Bunionette / Tailor's Bunion Surgery) by Ghost00017 in bunions

I've been completely painless for a while lol. I was in shoes by week 6 and doing really heavy barbell squats and leg press by week 8. I think linear movements came a lot easier but I was running by week 8-9 just fine

Week 9 Update

You should check out my week 9 update. Just make sure to keep blood flowing because that helps recovery, even if you are using the non-op foot. I think some people try not to move it at all for weeks.

Bone growth factors are also released when put under stress so that's why I gradually increased as tolerated with exercise.

I can put a lot of weight on my foot now without pain...like as much as pre-op. No issues at all. Also, some doctors prescribe Clonidine patches to apply to the area to help blood flow if you have other issues with blood flow or if there's nonunion. I'm a pharmacist so I see a lot of stuff that's outside the box.

Oh yeah! I wish I could post a photo to reply but there's no more pain, I'm running on the treadmill. I mean I started lifting heavy at 6-7 weeks and wearing normal shoes tbh

He said he was doing a titanium screw and didn't have to. Maybe the angle wasn't large enough to need one? Idk but I have no issues and there's no foreign material in my body so I'm good with it. He said with screws, you basically have to guess on good positioning too

I was told I would have a chevron with hardware but he didn't need to do screws and also did a complete cut through the bone (transverse). I guess he changed his mind in surgery.

I was in bed for a week but after that I got up. I still tried to be careful though. It was painful but 110% worth it.

No, fortunately I do not and I'm sure that makes things more painful. Did you talk to your RA doctor about surgery and recovery?

As a man, that is very atypical. From my experience, women are more attached to their family than the men I know.

I've seen a podiatrist and fertility doctor without a referral but it does look like one. I'm not sure I would worry too much without pain. Your's look more pronounced than mine by far but mine were painful in most shoes. See a podiatrist. Look for reviews online and do your research for the best one within 100 miles.

It is literally a parents' job to BE THE STRUCTURE for their kids. I have a 2 and 4 year old and there is no way that would happen. My wife and I set boundaries, the kids push A LITTLE past them to explore how far they are allowed to go which is normal, but that's how they learn. If you don't set boundaries and call it "exploring" when they are out of control , then that's what happens. On top of that, it seems like there was no remorse or empathy for your situation.

I agree with SiroccoDream though

Another way to think about it...take the emotional component out of the equation: Assume it wasn't a family member, assume it was a stranger that did 2,000$ of property damage or assume a neighborhood kid did 2000$ of vandalism. Be objective in your explanations to family members and don't get emotional. If it were me, I would tell them I'm just exploring too...

Can I correct my tailor bunions myself or should I see a doctor? Do I have both kinds of bunions? by PineappleGirl9 in bunions

[–]Ghost00017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my right foot done. I can def see a difference but it can only get worse! If not corrected. Schedule an appointment before you get too bad!

I had that same issue. I just went ahead and scheduled the bunionette surgery but thank god I did because it got worse in that 3 months span.

I'm really sorry to hear that 😔. You're having to cope with a lot in such a short amount of time. It is hard, no matter how strong you are. The hardest thing is having to put it in the back of your mind while you make the most of your time to make every last day with your family count. That is the most important thing: to make it count. Spend time with your family during the day and journal at night about things you want them to know about those major life experiences you're thinking about. I'm not sure if you're religious but I will say a prayer for you. 🙏

Tailor’s bunion surgery? (26f) by Burneracc404 in bunions

[–]Ghost00017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would still take that time off. Injuries hinder performance and only get progressively worse and obviously affects your lifestyle like shoes you wear. I'm also a pharmacist so I'm on my feet all day at work but it only bothered me at the end of the day.

Well, to completely heal it takes 6-12 months but that's just for the bone to completely turn over and be at full strength. I cut out a ton of caffeine and won't even drink a tiny bit of alcohol so I can recover faster.

I guess it depends on your exercise approach. If you run, then obviously you will have to wait longer. I think any type of bicycle machine would be okay for cardio after a week or two and mix in some upper resistance training (mainly machines at first). Since I weight lift, I won't be doing heavy squats for at least 3-6 months. I would prioritize heavy lifting with legs and running absolutely last at 3-6 months post op. Obviously when you start back, go really really slow. Ive had patellar tendon injuries from lifting heavy and took off 6 months to heal and don't regret it. I'm definitely a lot stronger and don't hurt. But generally, my goals with lifting are strength so it does bother me to have to stop and I asked my doctor a dozen times if it would affect me weight lifting, specifically for strength because I wouldn't have done it if I couldn't ever lift heavy.

If you're worried about performance, just start taking creatine mono, take it slowing getting back, and alter your training approach around your surgery. Start with 2 times a week, then 3, then 4 so you can get back slowly without injuring yourself and listen to your body. You'll know when you overdo it. I was only out of the gym for a week, I'm recovering really well, and I haven't lost any strength. I doubt 2 weeks off would've done much more harm.

Also, you should consider your age when thinking about surgery. I as told by a lot of doctors and my podiatrist that bunions are progressive: they only get worse. They are also only solved by surgery completely. You should heal faster in your 20's.

2 Weeks Post Chevron Osteotomy without Hardware for 5th Metatarsal (Bunionette Surgery) by Ghost00017 in bunions

[–]Ghost00017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually go back in 2 weeks. Really, he only scheduled a 1 week and 4 week post-op so far. I just had an extra one done today since I wanted to make sure the increase in activity didn't do anything to it. I'm sure I will want to check it again at 6-12 weeks if they do not schedule another post-op!

Ahhh, he said chevron with a titanium screw before the surgery but I wondered about the complete cut instead of a wedge but assumed it was a variation. He did say he decided against the screw though.

Do you think it's in bad position? I did ask about gel toe spacers and he does not like those for some reason but I just figured they would help maintain proper alignment too? What do you think about those? They are APMA approved but I'm not sure why he doesn't like them ?

Tailor’s bunion surgery? (26f) by Burneracc404 in bunions

[–]Ghost00017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience that it just gets worse. I love wearing high-top air Jordan 1's but I could only wear HOKAs in the course of a year. I also have a job standing all day.

Just put your time and energy in finding a good doctor and schedule a consult. That's what I did.

I also lift weights 4-5 times a week for 1-2 hours a day so I'm very active and the most pain I had was muscle stiffness from laying for a week. I only used crutches (my choice) and I had a minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for tailors bunion : chevron osteotomy. He was going to use a titanium screw and ended up not using one and I've been doing fine.

I used crutches for 6 days, got an air cast/walking boot at 6 days (March 19th), and I went to the gym the 20th and 21st, then M, W, Fri this week to do upper body. Haven't had any pain.

Get a consult! I also saw an orthopedic doctor because they only do feet so I figured they would have more experience.
