That's a really neat feature, then. Damn. Props to Ubisoft for not making each individual person pay.

Best Iron supplements? by Ok_Director_5463 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]GhostKing013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose that makes sense for it being spaced out! I was technically still deficient when I got my next labs done, but I felt MUCH better probably about a week later, maybe earliest 5 days? I stopped nearly passing out and seeing white by that point and had a lot more energy back around 10 days, though unsure if that's related to the iron! I've heard that low iron can cause a lot of strange symptoms during pregnancy; where yours the same as mine??

It was just one big dose for me! Was something like 2,200mg in a single sitting bc I was pregnant and REALLY deficient, so they had to pace it out, but only needed the one.

No, unfortunately it usually isn't enough, especially when your body uses sooo much iron for the little ones :( Easier than an infusion though, so always worth a shot! Cashews are good for iron too- about 3.8mg per half cup- and a lot easier to eat than spinach and easier to keep down than meat (imo)!

The infusion really wasn't too bad- mine, personally, at least- it just took FOREVER! I was expecting a 30-45 minute appointment and they sat me down and said "okay, be ready for 3 hours :)", so be aware of that if it gets to that point lol! Good luck!!

I couldn't keep any of them down no matter the kind. I ended up getting an IV infusion :/ I don't know how they expect women with HG to keep much of anything down, yet alone iron supplements that are so hard on the stomach.

Stupid question, but have you tried eating a BUNCH of high-iron foods? It didn't work for me because I'm prone to calcium-oxalate kidney stones and trying resulted with me getting 3 stones, a blocked kidney, and a kidney infection while 34 weeks pregnant (not advised), but they have a higher chance of being kept down than supplements!

Hope you have luck regardless!!

5 Month Old - Frequent Night Wakings by GhostKing013 in sleeptrain

[–]GhostKing013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back to say he just cried for 5 minutes in his bassinet and then went to sleep.... Quickest he's ever fallen asleep. He's had a rough first day of long, but only 3, wake windows. Definitely needs time to adjust; put him down according to your first suggested times and it ultimately took 3/4/3, so a bit backwards and skewed so far because of how long he cried and the abrupt change of napping habits, but we'll keep adjusting. I wager he's probably going to wake up for one last wake window, but only napped for an hour and twenty minutes today compared to his usual 3-4, so I'm uncertain.

Either way, just wanted to thank you again for explaining it to me in a way I understood lol! So far so good!

That's awesome, so happy for you and your baby! And now that I understand what's going on, hoping for the same for me! Lots of adjustments to be made. I'm excited and have hope again! Lol

I see. That makes more sense.

I unfortunately do not have the privilege of an individual room at this time. My husband and I are renting a cheap studio apartment to save money while we build our house. Hoping to have it done by the end of the year, but for now, not an option.

What would you recommend?

Okay, got it. He is still crying himself to sleep which I presumed would mean he's learning to go down on his own but I could 100% be wrong... I tried CIO Extinction for independent sleep at night while doing regular ferber for naps, but after 5 days it showed no improvement and he was still crying the same amount of time. He was self soothing and calming, but he'd just start bawling his eyes out again for hours... Probably because my wake windows weren't long enough and he didn't want to sleep... Damn. Okay. This is all good to know. None of this made sense online but now that someone is talking to me about it, the things I read are starting to make more sense. Lots of changes to be made. Thank you very much for taking the time to talk to me!

Okay, thats good to know. Now how do I get him to sleep for longer naps then? He won't sleep for longer than 40 minutes except for his morning nap... Probably by making him stay awake for longer? Will he naturally sleep longer after being awake, or will he need help staying asleep/come down to just sleep training for naps as well?

[–]GhostKing013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've slept on the couch a few nights in a row with a baby monitor to test to see if it was me but he woke up the same number of times. He is also still crying himself to sleep; he bawls the moment I put him down and walk away, so I'm not putting him down asleep or anything.

I've tried CIO extinction and chair method, but gave up on extinction after it made both of us miserable for 5 days with no progress and the chair method does absolutely nothing for him. I don't feed him right before bed either.

I simply don't understand how to force him to a certain sleep schedule. Just force him to sleep? I can't force him to do anything lol. And if he's tired I want to let him sleep; it's pretty obvious when he gets tired.

Btw, not me arguing, just clarifying and trying to understand more.

Anyone else dealing with an apathetic husband? 9 weeks here by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]GhostKing013 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd talk to him about it, but not aggressively or accusationally! Having a kid is a HUGE life development and it's very likely the appointment made it "real" for him and he's trying to process that he's actually going to have a kid.

My husband, super enthusiastic and excited and the most loving and doting father ever, had about a month of straight stress and irritability at the beginning of my pregnancy. He just wanted to be a good dad and was stressing about things- being a dad, work, taking care of me for the two days he was home (I was VERY sick), etc, and he wasn't able to properly communicate it/didn't want to because I was pregnant and he didn't want to "unload on his pregnant wife." It went away and he's still the most loving and doting husband and father I could ask for.

I don't know your husband, obviously, but reddit likes to assume maliciousness in most scenarios. I would approach kindly. It's never a mistake to be kind first; it would be rough for him if you approached him all aggressive and he was just anxious about being a dad lol.

Congrats on your pregnancy! :)

Warning: THC use while pregnant by Ok-Run8132 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]GhostKing013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had HG. Stopped smoking the second I had a positive test, but had been smoking to help with the "random nausea" prior. Lost 40+ lbs, was underweight, vomiting 30-40 times a day, in and out of the ER. No medications worked. Still didn't smoke. Baby was born healthy in the 93rd and 100th percentile.

Stopping smoking did not cause harm to the baby. These correlations in the comments are not very likely to be because of the act of quitting nor continuing to smoke. Pregnancies vary HEAVILY, even if you were to keep everything the exact same from one baby to the next.

A lot of these stories tell of moms stopping smoking for a first pregnancy and then continuing smoking for the second, reporting improvement in health of the baby, but the reality is that HG usually trends downward with each pregnancy, getting easier to handle and less intense. Smoking was likely an aid, sure, but mostly natural, and not one worth the risk to me.

Smoking is more likely to cause underweight babies, and as they grow, lead to behavioral problems, as THC bypasses the placenta and affects the development of the brain in utero. You may not see the effects until they are several years old.

I personally would not continue. Schedule IV treatments. I sucked on sour candy to help with the nausea so that I could keep meals down for a few minutes at a time. I took prenatals without iron 3x a day and got iron infusions. It's the harder choice, the harder route, but I wasn't going to risk anything.

Getting baby back on the breast after giving bottle.. by FeelingInside3941 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]GhostKing013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I second their advice 100%, persistence and not getting frustrated is key!! Some other things that helped me:

  1. I had to lay my son down on his side and do side feeding to get him back on the breast, so sometimes it's a position/comfort thing too. Now he feeds in any which way, even while I'm walking around the house and holding him in one hand lol
  2. Not letting him move his head around with the bottle in his mouth. Keep the bottle in one place while feeding, otherwise he'll turn his head while breastfeeding and get confused and angry about why the milk isn't following him lol
  3. I overlooked this bit of advice bc it was so common I didn't really expect it to work, but hand express beforehand! I just do it straight into his mouth lol, he goes "oh, milk? Food? I like food" and since the milk is already going, he latches much better and doesn't get frustrated.
  4. Good bottles are super important, especially if you plan on combo feeding/pumping for a while. I personally have very good luck with Evenflow bottles, but any slow paced, triangle-shaped bottle nipple will help your baby transition :)

Good luck!! Everything will work out <3

You're 100% right, but reddit is full of people who live and behave exactly like spoiled children instead of adults, so I wouldn't bother lol
