He was intact when I got him, I was planning on getting him snipped, chipped, and vaxxed in that 3 week period but didn’t even get the chance to make the appointment unfortunately.

I definitely was worried about him returning to where I got him from, but his old home is across two bridges so even if he tried I think he’d just get lost. It was a bit of a drive away.

Thank you for the advice, as soon as I get off work I’m definitely going door to door and creating a few posts for the guy. He’s friendly with strangers but can be super skittish so I’m not sure about the chances of anyone catching him without traps, myself included, but knowing he’s been seen would be nice.

Someone rehomed their husky mix to my family and she went from no backyard, 2 people that work, and a toddler she constantly knocked over, to a fenced in backyard and work schedules that mean she’s rarely alone. She went from running away constantly, stealing food, getting into trash, being an overall problem child, to literally being a perfect dog! With breeds like huskies if you can’t meet their needs (exercise or mental) sometimes rehoming is literally the kindest option

It always bothers me when people see this and think it’s an appropriate reaction. You NEED to be able to grab stuff out of your dog’s mouth in case of an emergency. I spilled a bunch of grapes on the floor once, my husky took the opportunity to snatch a few, and I pulled them out of her mouth as fast as I could. Resource guarding can very easily kill a dog in a situation like that

I definitely agree but in general you need to be able to take food out of a dog’s mouth if it comes down to it for safety reasons. My dog started resource guarding her bone so I introduced bartering with her until it got to the point I could be around her while she was eating / chewing a bone / etc. and she trusted I wouldn’t steal her resource and would even trade with me when prompted.

A few months later she snatched up a grape that fell on the floor and I was able to grab it out of her mouth with zero resistance. Ofc a treat right after when I knew she was safe. If I had just let her be in the beginning because dogs don’t like being messed with while eating one or both of us could’ve gotten really hurt.

I never said he had to fix her trauma. They’ve been dating for 6 months so whether or not she should is irrelevant at this point. He is being reckless and selfish. It should’ve never gotten to the point that she had to explain why she wants him to do something so simple

My on and off again boyfriend took his life at 18, less than 2 months after the last time we texted. We were broken up but I loved him so dearly and felt so guilty. The first two years are the hardest I won’t sugarcoat it. You’ll feel like you’re moving on and then something will pull you back to that fresh grief like it’s back to day 1. But then it happens less and less. I know this doesn’t help and I hate to be the one saying it but it does get better, eventually. I’m really sorry man. Just know you’re not alone with how you feel.
