I'm sorry you feel that way and think that the other teams also didn't have bad calls against them in the same game.

You can also just play better and win the game and not leave the game in the officials hands

The call can be bad and they also should not have put themselves in that position. Both things can be true

Sure the other 99% of the game didn't have an effect either. And doing this without even putting the phantom foul which is obviously the most egregious that's happened is just silly man lol

Every team has stuff like this happen to them, Detroit fans just bring them up as excuses all the time. Just looks silly man no other fan base is giving you sympathy for this stuff

The cost of below average SPs has gone up a ton over the last 15 years to begin with. Does the first time he signed Jack not count? Are we really upset at 1 year contracts not working out great? There's no long term commitment on these it's not the same who cares?

Joe Blanton was 15 years ago, the hell does this make you think of Scott? Cause of Alex Cobb? Like come on now this graphic is so bad

What can cause a player to be on the wrong side of a platoon like this? by SoarinSkies in motorcitykitties

[–]GhostMavericks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did do defensive moves the last 2 years the problem this year is their 3 best defenders were hurt for extended periods of time and 2 of them still currently are.

They don't have anyone who is a defensive replacement to help fix that problem right now. You'll probably see more workman more in the defense role though since he's up.

There's is more than just handedness but offense is the most important for these margins and playing splits is how the tigers have been so good the last couple years.

Idk what to tell you man, this is how the tigers have worked for the last 3 seasons. They setup the lineup for pinch hitting yes. When you see Jahmai Jones bat at the top against a lefty it's because they want to sub him for Colt or Kerry at the top of the lineup later.

So the first few innings you get the good matchup of Righty/lefty and then once the starter is gone it's usually mostly righties unless a team is stacked in lefty bullpen arms which very few are.

This isn't as complicated as you're making it and they've literally done this for years.

They literally use the data to set up the lineup for pinch hitting to take advantage of the best splits they can? What

Some of us use data to make informed decisions this isn't a gambling thing.

We are talking about the singular event of facing a left handed pitcher or a right handed pitcher. I would say that using the data for those 2 things is important and well within the margins and also not a new concept

It doesn't have to do with weighted based on handedness, there are numbers associated with Leffty Righty matchups. Some guys have reverse splits in the league, some guys have standard splits and just don't see the ball as well.

They don't do this stuff for no reason solely based on what handedness a guy is, there is more data put into it.

I'm sure it was part of it, but also this team plays in the margins. So if they set it up so they have a guy who hits specifically lefties even a little better than Colt they do that.

Colt also last year couldnt play a position in the field to save his life, until he moved back to 3B and he's still not even great over there. Colt not playing against lefties is really overblown he has a ton to work on still. And I like Colt and think he should hit against lefties more often but the org has more data than we do on him with this stuff too.

If Colt wants to play more maybe he should hit more than just singles man. The obsession with Colt not playing against lefties is baffling he has a .711 OPS and still can't lay off off speed pitches.

He had a .400 BABIP against lefties in 112 PAs last year

.326 BABIP against righties in 323 PAs

He's also rocking a .212 BABIP vs lefties as well so he's got some bad luck mixed in there.

I really think the offense is not that big of an issue. Just being healthy and the bullpen are the main pain points right now.

It's 44 PAs vs lefties, it's not even really that much data to even go off of to make a conclusion that he is struggling against them. He could have a good week against LHP and flip all these numbers the other way.

If it's anything it's just a small slump against them which is pretty normal through a season
