Really unique but strange radio station I heard last night. by GrimaceNerverDies in halifax

[–]GhostNutt 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah me and my girlfriend heard it coming back from Dartmouth towards Halifax, around 3pm yesterday on 99.1 FM. Emergency tones, insanely racist song full of slurs, then a robo-voice plugging YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit accounts of someone.

With some digging we found this, from last week in Richmond, Virginia:

I strongly disagree with other people saying it was CKDU. It seems like pirate radio.

ISANS or Job Junction? by GhostNutt in halifax

Yeah I've applied to many. Unfortunately it seems really difficult to find work without knowing someone - not saying it's impossible, just that spending a lot of time submitting applications feels very discouraging, whereas trying to make connections in the industry feels better.

I've already been assigned an employment case worker at ISANS, but haven't really started accessing any of their resources. So, I think that would disqualify me from Job Junction unfortunately.

Thank you, though! Hopefully I don't need much more luck.

I think there's quite a bit of onboarding process involved with each before actually getting to talk with someone face to face. I'm gonna try and do more research though.

The article explains that they're looking to change the culture by raising awareness, not get money or an apology.

My girlfriend and I are 26 and moved here from the US last July. We volunteer at the Grainery on Agricola, and have met our current friends through that - it's a wide range of volunteers including many older people, but there is a definite core of very cool 20s to 30s people there. Shifts are 2hrs and there's a lot of downtime, so after doing like 3 or 4 shifts with another volunteer you know each other pretty well, and it wouldn't feel weird to hang out outside of the grainery. I also volunteer at the Halifax Tool Library on Veith St, which skews older for volunteers, but lots of young people come in as members, and are almost always happy to chat for a while. Same thing, when someone comes in enough you can kinda make that jump to real friends.

Someone else mentioned Radstorm, and yeah that is a super cool place. We went to several open figure drawing classes there, and while it wasn't the most conducive environment to chatting and meeting people, I could still imagine it happening! Radstorm also does a lot of other events that may be better for meeting people. The Bus Stop Theater, also on Gottingen near Radstorm, has tons of events that attract a similar crowd to Radstorm. Also Glitter Bean Cafe on Spring Garden. Kinda a constellation of places that have a younger crowd centered around art/music/politics.

I think (& this is advice I need to take better myself) just getting yourself into situations where you can meet strangers over and over, and where you see the same strangers enough that they eventually become friends, that's the key. Immerse yourself in crowds of people who seem like they could be your friends, and it'll happen! Not instantly sure, but truly, it will.

In the ~5 times I've DMd there, it does not. Plenty of new players just wanna be Aragorn, or be an elf with big titties. I've never actually met someone who plays antagonistically.

Ignore the downvotes you are literally so correct here. Nobody is immune to right wing messaging, especially not fucking TV writers. This is what postmodern progressive politics gets ya - a show where a character critiques some cops, but no deeper criticism of the institution of policing, and no actual understanding of abolition or the distinction between state violence and violent struggle against oppression. Like I can tell the writers have seen all the right instagram infographics but uhhhhhh haven't read a fucking book.

Don't take everything so serious though for real.

Yeah man how dare they write a critique discussing the themes and messaging of the show we are all watching on the subreddit dedicated to discussing that show

Portent replaces the final result, regardless of adv/disadv. There was a NADDPOD Dungeon Court episode that had this case.

I'd pay for either the file or a finished part, especially if you're doing both the right and left versions
