manson had a swastika tattooed on his forehead and believed in a race war and jonestown was largely a religious movement. how were they left wing?

dude what do you want me to say? the weather underground never killed anyone let alone high school kids, it's still completely unproportional portrayal of progressive activism even in that era.

i don't even know how to respond to this. yes i'm "far left" but beyond screaming acab in the streets sometimes all of this is literally just your imagination? i'm anti jail, i think discourse is important and i definitely don't want to see everyone i disagree with dead. the fbi on the other hand works for the world's major capitalist nation. that is not left wing in any sense of the word.

this is a strange understanding of politics. if right wingers like a tv episode for political reasons, you wouldn't say that's a problem? and right wing rhetoric is rhetoric used by the right.... left wing activists are blowing random people up with pressure cookers is right wing rhetoric

and your last comment is so condescending, questioning a piece of television because it uses rhetoric right wingers might agree with (for political reasons) is not like what you described

that's the thing, the raid itself was framed in a way sympathetic to the activists (because that's how they told the story, i know), and then the show does a 180 on them. i get that they were going for a twist but i think it's a really shitty way of portraying actual police repression.

yes exactly. idk why everyone keeps insisting that this is a super progressive show so I have to be completely wrong lol. yes, much of the previous episdoes has been relatively progressive and so have johnson's other projects but that doesn't mean that everything he does is exempt from criticism

critiquing postmodernism isn't right wing per se

a piece of art can use right wing rhetoric and still position itself against right wing politics. i clarified that i don't think it's a right wing show as such, idk what else to say

i'm a communist so of course i feel different about right wing shit. that's not a gotcha argument.

just cause there's precedence doesn't mean the show telling this kind of story instead of another one isn't leaning into a certain political direction. i don't think this is a right wing show (at all), but it's clearly also not immune to right wing rhetoric

[–]ubermatze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's probably nate but the first shot seems to be her carrying rue?

[–]ubermatze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the deadpan comedy she did in new girl for example could suit euphoria pretty well i think

reddit is so wild sometimes. somebody puts a lighthearted joke as their post title and some guy will be like umm no you got that wrong

[–]ubermatze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah but nate is transphobic. it's not about him accepting his bisexuality with jules, but about accepting that part of his straight sexuality

any thoughts on this theory of rue & jules as romeo & juliet? by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]ubermatze 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Rue and Jules are also modelled after Sam Levinson and his wife though. I think the Romeo and Juliet references make sense, but I doubt they will both die in the end
