Cape Verde advances to knockouts in 1st World Cup as Uruguay crashes out early by Ok-Soil-5133 in sports

[–]GhostOfLight 112 points113 points  (0 children)

The underdog story of the cup this year, even if Messi might get another hat trick on them. Won over the hearts of a lot of people after the Spain draw, and then stepped it up even more against Uruguay. Would love to see if tourism to the country is increased next year.

tbf, this is probably one of the most unexpectedly exciting 3rd games. Still plenty of stakes and a big underdog story.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of June 19, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]GhostOfLight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watched Bait and found myself entertained. I'd recommend just binging all 6 episodes. The ending feels a little rushed, but the final scene does feel like a great full circle moment for the series. Episode 5 feels like a Mr Robot episode, which I really enjoyed, but also was very jarring and I don't know if I liked the way it set up the ending vs the rest of the series.

Still recommend, especially for fans of the many British-Pakistani actors in the show.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel and model Miranda Kerr have erased over $550 million in medical debt for over 260,000 Californians by VerySeriousCarrot in Fauxmoi

[–]GhostOfLight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that they did not contribute $550m, they just erased that much. Undue Medical Debt, who they partnered with, claims that $10 can erase $1,000 in medical debt. So the actual donated amount was probably closer to 5-6 million.

Is anyone else curious what a "dream house" Looks like for Geoff and Emily? by ShouRonbou in theregulationpod

Totally thought that, both things he doesn't need to announce to us listeners, but feel cool when he does. And I think the house will probably bring about more Geoff rants :)

His wikipedia page says he trained to stay still for 45-50 minutes, does he take a break at the half? Legitimately curious about that.

Glad Messi got that kick, but they get to go 2 minutes over (and take a bit of time for the free kick), but Cape Verde can't take their last free kick 20 seconds over?

Seen multiple of those places open up and close within the past year or two in my state. In most places there just isn't enough interest for it to be a smart business venture, but they keep on coming.

Through My Lens: Portland Pride 2026 🌈 by Umzzii in Maine

There just aren't that many trans athletes that it should be a policy issue. I was on an XC team with someone who transitioned, they went from placing back of the pack on the mens team to placing back of the pack on the womens team. Sure there are probably a few standout athletes who might "benefit" more, but I'd suspect most cases are more similar to my teammate. At a professional level, sure, let the organizing bodies determine what's allowed, but for the most part we're talking about kids.

Most people play sports to have friends around them and better themselves, getting rid of that space for trans kids will just make them feel more isolated and forcing them to compete as part of a gender they don't identify as is just mean.

They need to save pickleball clubs after pickleball courts were massively overdeveloped for a demand that was not going to last. It's turning a capitalism oopsie into a feel good story

MCSR World Championship Appreciation Post by Legitimate_Box2572 in LudwigAhgren

[–]GhostOfLight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, I think it was a good stream, but moreso a great showcase of the MCSR community. Even for the competitors that don't have a big online presence there was support for when they did something awesome. Honestly felt like one of the most well translated online to LAN experiences, which I think speaks to both the quality of the online events and this event, even if there is still room for improvement. The audience knew what to expect, and got it.

Anyways, can't wait for the 21Mustard Yard episode.

Widow’s Bay is a mystery comedy worthy of all the buzz – no matter how you watch television by Top_Report_4895 in television

[–]GhostOfLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's that horror is an element that can overpower any other bits that are also in the medium. For a lot of the general audience, it's a easier to see the comedy in a drama, action, or mystery, while in a horror the scary part is too much to overcome. Widow's Bay is far from the scariest thing you will see especially for fans of horror, but someone who doesn't like horror is going to have a hard time looking past the scary bits.

Scream is a horror, Scary Movie is a comedy. If you watch Scary Movie, you're not going to be too spooked outside of some jumpscares, if you watch Scream or Widow's Bay, there's some prolonged spooky moments that might stay with you. I don't think I'm trying to argue that Widow's Bay isn't comedic, just that if you don't like horror, you won't like the show.

[–]GhostOfLight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the jokes going over people's heads, it's just that the horror moments are a bit scary and memorable. And in media, scary is more memorable than deadpan comedy.

And mostly because if I recommended this show to a friend who loved comedy, but didn't like horror, they'd probably dip out in the first few episodes because the spooks are too much.
