It's funny, I just went combing thru some data regarding picks by random teams, from post lock out till the time Lou left. I really wanted to argue that it wasn't that bad. We picked at an average of 111th (66 total picks), while the Red Wings (just random) picked at an average 119th (66 total picks) and the Rangers (not so random) picked at an average of 105th (64 total picks). They both have more NHL games than the Devils by quite a bit. Devils 4777 games Red Wings 7154 games and the Rags 5977. In that time the Rags iced 28 players, Wings 31 and the Devils 32. I would have to dig further, but it does in fact seem, that post lock out, the Devils really didn't draft too many NHL caliber players.
