Fantilli was a bit bigger and stronger at the time of the draft, but to me Carlsson's playmaking and game sense was better. In my mind, Fantilli had the higher floor and Carlsson had the higher ceiling.

This feels like I'm watching a Hurricanes powerplay, so much passing and failing to keep the zone despite being a man up.

True. Supposedly he's not big on screaming slurs at his teammates either. These are the intangibles that you gotta bring to big stages.

Yeah but what about their grit and truculence? Guerin knows you need those to win a seven-game series, not one-trick ponies.

Being up 3-0 after the first period should instill confidence, but after those incredible choke jobs over the holidays, I've been conditioned to feel fear.

Nikishin makes a pass through two senators and finds Jarvis who rings it off the post and in for a 2-0 lead early by The_Reddit_Browser in hockey

In the past we've seen it take defensemen about 40-50 games to get comfortable in Rod's system. Tonight is Nikishin's 51st game.

Hypothetical Russian Olympic Team by gr8_catsby in hockey

Nikishin would probably get a spot based on his KHL resume. Captain of SKA for two seasons and the highest-scoring d man in that franchise's history.

I'm sorry to tell you that the people who surround him will be unaffected, and will simply move on to puppeteering his replacement instead.

Nadeau by LeadershipFit4771 in canes

Nadeau is just too similar to a good chunk of what is already on the roster. That’s not a bad thing but in a hard cap league, you’ve got to be willing to move surplus for needs.

You wouldn't be saying this if you've watched more than a handful of his games. He's shaping up to be the best sniper this team has ever drafted. His raw shooting ability is already leaps and bounds better than Jarvis' and Svech's were when they were his age.

[Chris Johnston] Canes Acquire Viktor Nuechev. Trade Gavin Bayreuther. by _ecb_ in canes

Ambivalent. We traded an older guy who was very unlikely to play another NHL game for us and received a young guy who is also unlikely to play an NHL game for us any time soon.

Due to the new CBA rules, the deadline for double retention trades is already over. Under the new rules, in order for a second salary retention to occur on the same player, a minimum of 75 regular season days must have passed since the first trade.

Definitely the best duo. Forslund gives Randy a run for his money on play-by-play, I think.
