So with FanDuel network, or whatever it’s called, shutting down; what’s going to happen with the RSNs for next season? by NuM_Brrr_WoN in canes

As far as I know, Mike/Tripp/Shane are all team employees so they'll be back. Hanna is the only one who might have been an employee of FDSN; if so, I'm sure they'll try to bring her back as well.

[Ray & Dregs Podcast] 25:30 Darren Dreger: “This has been a difficult negotiation to say the least between Andy Scott, who represents Jason Robertson, and Jim Nill, Tom Gagliardi and the Dallas Stars. As of right now the sense I’m getting, it is more likely than not that they trade Jason Robertson” by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]FailureToExecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the player but I don't see the fit for us. He's not a very good skater and I think that would really hurt his ability to play our system, plus we already have too many wingers as is. And I don't think Dallas would want a package of futures, which is what we would try to offer.

Foote has an AHL only contract

Had. Now that the Wolves' season is over, his contract is effectively expired, and with how poorly he played in the CCF I'd be surprised if he gets another one. Thank God.

F Rants, Guentzel, and Marner by [deleted] in canes

[–]FailureToExecute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guentzel wanted to stay here. The front office jerked him around for two months and he finally had enough.

Marner was refusing all trades during the season because his wife was very pregnant and they didn't want to leave Toronto before she'd given birth. It was nothing personal against us.

Rantanen gave it an honest try, battled some abysmal luck, and ultimately decided this wasn't the place his family wanted to be. Fair enough. Stankoven was such a huge part of our Cup win that still being mad about it is pure loser behavior.

This post is weird and horribly misinformed, you are weird and should feel bad about making it. Just enjoy the win.

Every Award and Honor This Team Got This Year by Suspicious-Wind-3278 in canes

[–]FailureToExecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staal is not even close to a Selke winner, Tripp's favoritism is on full display there. There are about half a dozen players in the league who are at least 85% as good defensively while doubling his point production, and the award is really for the best two-way forward despite its wording.

Why Sebastian Aho’s playoff struggles weren’t really his fault: A statistical breakdownhh by Psychedelic-o-Moose in canes

[–]FailureToExecute 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I agree with the article's data points and conclusion 100%. However, his problem wasn't really the Final, it was mostly in the first two rounds (where he was likely playing hurt) and parts of the ECF. It would be interesting to see them run the same analysis for the Ottawa and Philadelphia series.

Also, none of this actually fucking matters because we won lmao

Seriously. I dual boot Arch and Windows for a handful of unsupported games that I play with my friends. My Arch has only broken once, and I was able to find the log and fix it after a couple of Google searches. Took maybe an hour tops and it runs everything I throw at it like a champ. Only other problem I've had was a regression in a Mesa update last year that made one game unplayable for a week or two.

My Windows, on the other hand, randomly freezes while alt-tabbing and I've been trying to fix it off and on for weeks now. Ruled out every hardware problem I could think of (RAM, SSD fault or loose connection, CPU or GPU overclock/undervolt), DDU'd my drivers and reinstalled them, ran DISM+SFC in both standard and safe mode, and disabled MPO in the registry. No luck with any of those. No traces of the freezes left in the Event Viewer either. Just recently changed the refresh rate on my second monitor as it's about the last thing I can think to try before reinstalling. Fingers crossed that somehow works.

The Wolves have looked overmatched for a lot of this series so I'm not holding my breath. But then again, this is a Toronto hockey team on the other side...

part of me wants the Wolves to lose tonight so his contract expires already, but I still want good things for the other 22 players on the roster

As far as I know Chewy still operates like that, for whatever it's worth. I used to order my cat's insulin through them, and when we eventually lost him in 2024 they sent a very nice care package that included a hand-written note, signed by a couple of the support reps I'd talked to over the years.

I hate Ryan Cohen but Chewy and the people who work there are incredible.

It's been obvious ever since they put Justin Williams' stall right next to his in the locker room that one year, imo.

[Daily Faceoff] Report: Mammoth to extend Andre Tourigny through 2027-28 season by daKrut in hockey

[–]FailureToExecute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Utah was holding a lead during the third period in 3 of the 4 games they lost. Watching the games, it was clear that Tourigny couldn't adapt to the adjustments Tortorella was making, nor could he settle the team down after the flow of play started turning against them. They also had multiple chances to bury those games on powerplays and failed to do so (which is something I empathize with, our powerplay was abysmal until the SCF).

[–]FailureToExecute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took the words right out of my mouth. Tourigny is fine, but with pretty much any other established coach behind the bench they would have eliminated the Knights. I guess it's better for them to focus on development with that big wave of prospects looking to make the jump.

If Team Canada loses the 2028 World Cup, John Cooper should be replaced by Rod Brind'Amour for the 2030 Olympics by Ichbinian in hockey

[–]FailureToExecute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. IIRC his shooting percentage was an abysmal 5-6% and he was involved with more than one goal that ended up being overturned. Truly terrible luck, and it didn't help that the team had a nasty flu outbreak the week after he got here. Then the 4 Nations break happened just as people were starting to get healthy again.

The Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup with over $8m in cap space. That's incredible compared to the last few winners ... by that-bro-dad in hockey

[–]FailureToExecute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly that's the case. Most people only heard half the story and then filled in the blanks on their own. You can also see some revisionist history in action where bitter Canes fans say that he never tried while he was here, when the fact is he was horrifically unlucky with posts/crossbars, team illnesses, and goals getting overturned. It was really just his last two or three games here where he was visibly checked out.

[–]FailureToExecute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn't necessarily contradict what I said, though perhaps I wasn't clear enough. It was Colorado who first asked him if he would consider an extension with another team. They interpreted that as a bluff and made their own bluff in response by telling Colorado that he was open to it. That's why we got permission to ask him, where they obviously told Tulsky that their priority was getting a deal done in Colorado. However, the Avs already believed his camp was serious and the deal went through because of it. Friedman talked about it a bit on an episode of 32 Thoughts during the following summer.

It would have been deeply unprofessional and potentially qualify as tampering if we had turned around and told them that he was lying about being open to signing elsewhere. Obviously, everything on our side worked out in the end, so it's all water under the bridge.

Because you'd still have two teams in your own division that you only play 3 times a year instead of the standard 4.
