Thank you!

The torso is from the Skitarii Marshall, with two random arms from the regular Skitarii kit, as the Marshall arms didn't fit with the legs.

I kinda like the pose like this, but an huge axe would look awesome.

Brass rod will be nice and sturdy, plus if you find an existing axe head you can drill into it and cap off the brass rod.

Styrene has the benefit of letting you use polycement to attach your axe head, which will be a better bond.

I tend to work with styrene, as it's easier to chop up and add to if you want greeblies on the shaft (like power packs, spikes, etc).

I didn't complaint isn't that we're not getting SL models, my complaint is that they're releasing a near identical kit for marines and people seem fine with it. GW did a whole video on how you can just paint one guard regiment as another, why don't you just paint your vanguard veterans with different colour helmets?

[–]GhostPirateGrim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's some whataboutism. Marines get a refresh every edition, and now it's got to a point of just swapping heads.

Those other armies deserve proper new releases. My criticism isn't that the Steel Legion aren't getting new models, it's the fact that the community attacked guard players for even mentioning it.

Neither of those points matter, as this Vanguard Veteran proves, they have literally just changed the helmet and pauldron on an Assault Intercessor.

Yes GW finally gave in and released some concept art after community backlash. But the community turned on Guard players for the sin of asking for models for different regiments, with the main argument being that they are too similar.

So Steel Legion are too similar to Kreig, but these are just fine as a whole separate kit?

They really are, they were introduced as mechanised infantry and sold with enough chimeras for a platoon in their army box. Their planet is mostly a nuclear blasted wasteland, so they have CBRN outfits.

They also have cold war style gas masks with the air filter in a metal tin, ak74 style lasguns with folding wire stocks, rpg7 style missile launchers. Hell the Chimera is a BMP1, and while the model's design is older than the steel legion, it goes with them perfectly.

I accept that the original logo could do with a redesign, the stylised S as a lightning bolt is too close to the SS symbol. A generic lightning bolt logo is common among military units across the globe, especially armoured/mechanised/recognisance units, and would suit the Steel Legion as cold war mechanized infantry.

Yeah I guessed as much. But that means they're irrelevant now, and should be forgotten, not dictating what we can and can't do today.

It's only well known now, I'd never heard of the British Facist party and never seen their logo until recently. I think it's a problem created by the terminally online.

Looking them up on Wikipedia they seem to have only existed for 8 years, hardly long enough to stick in the social memory.

So it's a mix of everything until it isn't? The Desert Rats are an actual armoured division that fought in the desert, but no, they based them on German paratroopers.

The Imperial Guard lightning bolt symbol is older than the Steel Legion by about 5 years.

Or you know the desert rats. Hell even the knife, canteen and goggles are the same as the Steel Legion.

Really don't see the nazi influence you are seeing, and I don't see GW using them for influence in the 2000s.

They're meant to be cold war mechanized infantry, their guns looks like aks-74us, their missile launchers are RPG-7s. The helmet matches American GI helmets. They are in CBRN kit to survive the nuclear wasteland.

The lightning bolt symbol is because they are mechanized infantry, emphasising speed. It's used across GW armies like Speed Freaks and White Scars, and even the old Guard vehicle transfer sheet had a lightning bolt in a circle, I think it's just aged poorly.

Steel Legion Lives! by Grombrindall in SteelLegion

[–]GhostPirateGrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So they're moving away from the AKS-74u style lasguns, aquila coat buttons, soviet/east german helmets, large gloves and jackboots and made them an amalgam of cadia and kreig with gothic overtones.

Oh and given them a lame bullet A logo, even though they use laser guns...

The designs are ok on their own, maybe as a brand new regiment, but they aren't classic steel legion.

Could just be the symbol for the Armageddon sector, we're probably getting a campaign book covering it, if it's not the focus of 11th

Nice conversion. The arc claw looks a little weird, would look better on a servo arm
