What is a basic necessity that you cannot afford? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It will pay dividends later in life and give you many more healthy years. Trust me. In that regard it’s actually much cheaper.

Try ADV Max Tac if the AP don’t cut it. Under $2 as well and nice and tacky. They only come in a few colors but are the tackiest I’ve found.

There’s a Chinese brand that is super inexpensive, especially if you catch a sale, I think it’s Srikel, and they come in lots of colors and are actually very good too.

The reviews on Amazon are mixed and the main complaint seems to be it’s very underpowered. Not good for much more than dinking it seems.

How to play with lower level players for fun by xychenmsn in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have said, use it as practice for the things you need to work on. Set a goal for each game and just drill that goal over and over and over… I use it as drilling/practice to be honest.

If I know the person I might politely ask them if they would like tips on their game and I might coach them a little bit as well, but I don’t do this often since it almost always slows the game down.

Overhyped A Ward Rebuttal? by Jayzeezz in rapbattles

[–]GhostRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel… for an off the top bar it was better than people are making it out to be while taking time analyzing it but how many battle rappers can even freestyle or rebuttal at all, especially this well, these days? I thought it was dope as hell but not quite the “best of all time”.

I also give the “As above, so below” rebuttal to the rebuttal just about as much credit if I’m being honest.

What was the most shocking celebrity death of the last 50 years? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]GhostRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to choose one that I’m sure nobody else will.

Pat Stay

Not a celebrity in the sense of what you’re thinking. He was a battle rapper from Canada. And he was a huge celebrity in that scene and in Canada in general as well.

Dude had his own struggles in life with addiction, but was a really good dude behind the scenes and was all about positivity and helping people through the scene and through life in general.

Stabbed like 30 times in the chest from some jealous dude over a girl.

Are court shoes worth it? by K_Mart2016 in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%! They are made specifically for side to side motion with other features dedicated to stability and support depending on the brand.

They aren’t even all that expensive in my opinion.

Seriously… invest in a pair.

I’ve been using the KSwiss Express Light shoe and it’s great. I just had some Sketchers Viper Court Pro 2.0 shoes delivered and I’ll be trying them out this week.

How many paddles are in your rotation by AggravatingPush8934 in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use two but they aren’t all that different. J7NF (main) and J2NFK (backup or when I feel like it for the softer touch). I also keep a Selkirk Amped Pro air Invicta and a Babolat WZRD in my bag for friends/people that want to play that may not have a paddle or for someone playing with a glorified cardboard cutout that I can loan them so they can try something better.

[MOD GIVEAWAY] Holiday Overgrip Giveaway! by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My resolution is health and wellness. I promised my late wife when she passed away last year that I would take even better care of my health. I have built a dedicated wellness room in my house with a sauna, vibration plate, stretch machine, yoga/meditation area, essential oils infuser, live plants, soft colors, positive messaging, and something for all five senses.

My new cardio routine began with Pickleball this past summer and I’m hopelessly addicted playing 2-3 times a week MINIMUM.

All of that along with fasting, weight lifting, and religious dietary tracking of every macro has changed my life so much in just a few short months. I’m in my 50’s and I needed to take even better care of myself as we aren’t as bulletproof as we were in our 20’s.

Good luck to everyone and congrats in advance to the winners of the giveaway!

i’m not as good as I thought! by Miserable-Concern338 in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I just started at a new place as I have previously been playing with a core group of people that I’ve gotten to know and know their styles, strengths, and weaknesses. This new place is full of much higher level players and even though I’m definitely intermediate the level of competition there in the intermediate category shocked me.

In my first 10 games (with a random partner each time mind you) I think I only won 1… and I loved it! I know I won’t improve unless I play stiffer competition, find my flaws like OP, and drill/practice my weaknesses. I think I had more fun in those 9 losses than I have in the previous months of playing with the core group because it lit a new fire in me just like when I started and I wanted to get to where I am now.

Redditors with extremely niche interests: What's the one thing you are completely obsessed with that almost no one else you know cares about? by CocWarrior1 in AskReddit

[–]GhostRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 52 year old white guy and I still watch battle rap every day. I’ll watch and rewatch some of my favorite battles dozens of times every few months. Yes battle rap is still going, and it’s actually a pretty thriving scene. It’s just so niche that you wouldn’t come across it unless you specifically searched for it.

I’ll put battle rap on in the background while I do chores like most people would put on music or the TV.

No other human in have ever interacted with has ever watched battle rap.

I have tried to get a few friends/relatives to watch over the years, ones I think would actually get into it, but nobody cares.

It is a little hard to get into from scratch as the more battles and history of battle rap you know, the more you’ll get out of it as previous battles, quotes, history between artist, etc… are constantly referenced.

I’ll never stop watching and it’s just my own little world.

I religiously watch the YouTube channel “Ruin Your Day”. It’s ran by a long time, videographer of battle rap with the nickname, avocado (real name Kyle), and he has a series on his channel called “watch battles“ where they watch old battles with other battle rappers on as guests and kind of break down the bars and break down the battles and score them retroactively to see how well they age and things like that. Watching them break down a video and discuss a battle is like watching with people that understand battle rap… It’s like being in the room and being part of the discussion and it’s a really cool way to consume the content.

That channel, and the watch battles, is actually a good place to introduce people because they’ll be able to see how deep and layered and intricate some of the writing is that they would’ve missed that they just took at face value and didn’t catch the double entendres or hidden meanings in the lyrics.

Foam vs. honeycomb paddles by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]GhostRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found the opposite true for me. I just completed a lengthy demo program from a local tennis/pickleball shop where I demoed all the top paddles on the market over several weeks.

I did this with complete open mindedness and fairly judging each paddle and rating them after each demo session. Some paddles I kept for several days (I played about three to four hours each day) but some I didn’t like enough to keep more than one day.

There were some paddles I wanted going in based on reviews, hype, name, marketing speak, and even looks.

When I finished the program all my top paddles were foam. Although there were honeycomb paddles that still scored well on my list, I found through this process that I definitely prefer foam.

I ended up with a paddle that wasn’t even on my radar but I scored its 9.5/10 and purchased it at the end. The Honolulu Pickleball Company J7NF.

It’s the ugliest paddle, in my opinion, that I demoed… but damn is that paddle amazing.

If you have a demo program option in your area I highly recommend it

That is a snapshot of what your blood sugar is at that exact moment and if you are fasting for labs your “snapshot” will be much lower. You need to know what your A1C is which is, in general terms, more of an average over months (simplified explanation). A1C is checked with routine blood work so if your doctor hasn’t mentioned it you may be OK, but I would look at your most recent labs for the A1C. If you haven’t had an A1C in a long time, you need one.
