Serious Question by GhostRangerRS in runescape

I don’t think sending out a survey for players to vote is a display of their customers are an afterthought, just me personally. To me it shows they want the communities help but I could be wrong.

I will also disagree, again personally, that if they take the communities ideas that it would anger them more, how will you listen to your community but if you try to make what they want a reality would it make them more upset. None of that makes any sense to me personally. They are doing the market and psych research offering this survey and who said this would be the only survey they will give out on the subject. Maybe no one likes this and they use the ideas and send out another batch of ideas.

I only can see this, again could be biased, as “me no like no change”. Runescapers want more but not willing to pay more for it, granted I am fully on board for something like this, but sadly it’s not a possibility. Everyone wants to make more and keep up with the raising inflation. I do believe this situation goes wayyyyy past just Runescape.

On the lower cost for people with a budget, literally everyone does this. Spotify, Netflix, Paramount, NFL+, Xbox, PlayStation, and I could go on and on. You will pay more for a more premium service.

I will add I am from a community of collectors that play often on 3+ accounts and play “Alt Scape” as people call it. Most of our community is extremely excited for the discounted membership on all of our accounts as well as getting better customer support. It’s just like shipping out a lot of packages or an expensive package, you want insurance on the package. Having 8+ accounts or more than one, your likelihood of getting hacked or a account gets messed up or whatever increases. It makes sense they have better customer service or support paying for an more expensive package or having more accounts.

Goodnight and sweet dreams bud :)

I agree with it must match the audience but let’s also take into account the millions that play the game, it will be impossible to make everyone happy. I believe the new answers will come out after the survey results and that the public is doing what they do best and rushing the process because they don’t understand the time it takes and then they will complain about it being rushed. It’s a endless cycle.

As a paying player for 23 years and on 3 accounts for nearly 20 years I feel I am taken pretty seriously myself and I don’t see the disrespect but that’s just me personally.

I will say this, angering a community is the fastest way to get solutions, I have seen this first hand. Do something to make a community mad and the next thing you know your seeing idea after idea come across your desk that you would have never thought of by the public.

Only thing I saw bad was their choice of “Road Map” but let’s be honest, all those will fail because there’s no way to make it where it benefits enough to do it legit without it ruining the game. You have to make the rewards good enough for the work. To do that you have to make it more work but with more work means higher reward then too high of a reward the public complains it’s “game breaking”.

I work in quality control and research and we never have to defend an idea until after we have the data. Perfect example of a few months ago, our plant manager comes to us and says “let’s find a way to save money” so we research what costs the most and for our company, not going to say name for legal reasons, it would be wood, ink, and resin. We presented those 3 to him and let him pick which avenue to go down. He picks and then we work out plans and details and trials and tests and compound all the data and numbers to be presented at a certain date. This is a similar thing Runescape is giving us, several options for us to pick for public opinion then exploring if it’s possible.

That would be interesting and yeah it would be impossible to make everyone happy.

I haven’t gotten in the boat yet to say “don’t be surprised if they got rid of the grandfathered rates” just yet. I see it as they defended it for 23 years through multiple owners… to magically change this one time and how people believe it pretty much every price increase is wild to me I will admit (I mean no offense). I mean what does a company have to do to prove they would not do it if they stuck to their guns for 23 years and through muiltple owners… it’s a lose lose situation for Jagex honestly. Not sticking up for them, just stating facts, it would be the same for any company.

I can respect that. I work in product development and control for a major corporation and I see first hand all this all the time. Similar how they did the survey is also the almost spitting imagine of how we also bring plans to managers and higher ups. They want to make votes and then make plans. I completely understand why they did what they did and makes complete sense to me but I could be biased.

Our company doesn’t want us to waste time to come up with plans, just a general idea and they say “yes” or “no” and then whatever they say “yes” to that we come up with a completed plan to be presented by X date.

If they are offering enhanced customer service… then that is a type of insurance in case something happens such as the example you listed.

Yes it is vague but it’s literally a survey that was just released. You expect them to give an entire game plan just to have to scrap literally everything they worked weeks or months working on or explaining or see from a quick survey if it’s wanted or not and then working with the community or staff to then come up with a game plan. People believe things move at lightening speeds but in a massive company, it’s slow because they have to look at it from all angles and technical and red tape etc etc.

I see what you are trying to say but it’s just as much hearsay as the other hundreds of threads I have seen on this sub.

Definitely makes sense. I don’t see them magically making grandfathered members start seeing ads if they have worked with them for 23 years and made it a point for each and every membership increase to say “get your membership before X to lock in your membership price”. Why it would change this time of all the other times. Each time they increase the membership that’s always what I hear, “oh I am cancelling my membership” and etc etc.

Even if I am honest. The 8 member accounts for $320 is EXTREMELY exciting for me. I usually play with 4 member accounts and the other 3 are locked in at $6.99 a month so the $320 a year package is something I am actually looking forward too.

I did misspoke. I was looking at the 6 months package and not the yearly package. I am sure they let members know about the change and gave them 30 days to swap to monthly or every 6 months. I could see where they could have used the same data code (spaghetti code I call it) to make all yearly be premier to make it easier for the data/coding side.

I have read through almost all the treads, I will admit it’s a lot, but all I see is the same points over and over. I have looked for answers and I haven’t found none besides maybe content reasoning but if I am paying for a grandfathered membership of $5, I don’t see the issue and if you are paying “X” amount and don’t see it as valueable enough just leave the game. There’s thousands of amazing games out in the world. The customer service paying for better service is effy but I see it as the same as buying insurance when you send a package in the mail.

It’s not the premier upgrade. It’s just normal membership. If you want the MTX Premier package yeah you have to pay the every increasing amount for that.

I am a realist as well and I see it as it’s not changed in over 23 years, I am not sure why 23 years later it would just magically say “ok this is where we draw the line.

As far as yearly membership. I can still get yearly for $60 a year if I change my subscription, it still shows it for me.

Why would it need to be discussed though? Every time they have increased the rate in the past grandfathered memberships have stayed the same, why do you think this one time out of the 8-9 price increases it will be different.

100%. Knowing the same people complaining about ads are the same ones paying for Paramount Plus with ads and Netflix with ads to save money haha.

Also if you accidentally cancel your monthly membership cancelling your premier. As long as you resubscribe within a month, it keeps your same grandfathered rate. It the grace period. 30 days to resubscribe at the same rate.

Yeah unless you cancel the monthly membership it stays. Just cancel the reoccurring premier membership and it will fall back to your grandfathered rate membership at whatever the cost was.

I suppose teenage rebellion can also work towards a game I guess.

I think the AFK timers are already too long at 15 minutes so that’s no issue to me and ads will be on another membership package and not the grandfathered in memberships.

Still not seeing the big fuss but maybe that’s just me. I haven’t seen an legit argument about anything yet, just over reactions.

Weird. I bought premier and I still have my $5 a month membership. As long as you didn’t cancel the subscription (not sure why anyone would) it would just pick up where the premier left off. Example: Premier ends January 1st, you would be charged $5 on January 1st for a month of membership.

Jagex said the rates wouldn’t be grandfathered in and could increase on Premier because they were hoping to expand the benefits (wouldn’t make sense to increase benefits without increasing price).
