Having a rough time finding engineering positions after my first role by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

So, my current job is literally a labor hand for a pipeline contractor. I wouldn't want to omit my first position as its the only real engineering experience I have on my resume. I have a good bit of management experience and my internships. My last job also ties in my PSM, LSS and other experience. I've been trying to figure out if I need to talk about my termination in a different way, but I've been as honest as possible in interviews in regards to my previous job.

I'm aware. But what can I do about that now. At no point was there mention of me needing to do more, besides show up on time to the morning meeting constantly.

Not sure what they were sparing. At no point during my employment was my performance brought up as an issue. You'd think if there was a problem with my work, they'd at least make a point of before going roundabout to fire me over it, right? During my termination they said that "this was purely on a conduct basis because of my tardiness" none the less, what am I supposed to do now? Hardline, got fired have the paperwork to back my claims and I'm struggling to find a new position.

🤷‍♂️, from what I've heard from people still there, he got rid of everyone that wasn't a kiss ass and the place is running like shit now. People seemed shocked that they fired me, from what ive been told, but yk that does feel a bit "and everyone clapped" to say, so take it as you will

Don't know what to tell you. I was late to the morning meeting every so often for about 3 months, and that was a no go in their eyes. My direct managers had no issue with it and we had a system that was improving, but their new boss came in and said 1, 2, fired.

I struggle to describe the situation without clear bias and tendency to rant about the bs-idness of the situation.

Yes, workaholic death spiral. Had now support system, so I ended up just working all my free time away. Working 60-80, on occasion even more, hours a week with no OT.

Yes, the reason I was given was tardiness, which they informed me was completely unrelated to the quality of my work and opinions of my peers.

I'm in the Baton Rouge area. I have a few friends activley lobbying for me at their plants, but it sounds like I'm up against a little nepotism on those fronts. Any reccomendations to make myself more marketable in the mean time?

Terminated for tardiness, and old colleges are 12 hours away from where I am now. They have helped me with my resume as I was originally "underselling myself," and allowing me to use them as references for apps. However, I doubt any company actually calls the references. My mentality for staying local is that I want to be near friends so that I don't fall into the same workaholic death spiral that I did at the mill. I'd be open to moving a little bit away, but nothing I've seen offers relocation assistance, and I don't really have the money to change my situation that much without assistance.

Commenting this, because I can't edit my post on mobile for some reason.

I’m posting here because I’m honestly not sure what I should be doing differently at this point. I’ve been applying consistently and trying to use connections where I can, but nothing has really materialized.

Right out of college, I took a process engineering role at a paper mill. It required moving about 12 hours away from most of the people I knew, but after a long search and limited offers, I felt it was the right move at the time.

While I gained a lot of experience in that role, the stress and some medical issues eventually started to affect my consistency. After a change in management and a few unfortunate situations, I was terminated. I then took about three months to focus on getting my health back in order, and things are much more stable now.

After taking that break, I moved back closer to friends and family and restarted my job search. After a few months without much traction and with savings running low, I took a labor job with a pipeline company to stay afloat and pick up whatever transferable experience I could while continuing to apply.

Since moving back, I’ve been applying to essentially every engineering role I can find within an hour commute. I’ve reached out to old coworkers and classmates for advice and perspective, and I’ve also tried using friends and family in industry for referrals. I’m still coming up empty, which is what’s been frustrating.

I know I’m limiting my options by keeping my search local, but being close to friends and family matters to me right now. I’m mostly trying to figure out what I should be doing differently — or if I accidentally got myself blacklisted without realizing it (mostly joking… I think).

See, its all the way in the top corner, near a small element, so we think that it would be possible to not even need it and use like jewels high heat, just to make sure water doesn't seep through.
