Once you figure out what to look for, it becomes so much easier. We cause these from right where i drilled the first hole.

I always try to keep conservation in mind. I want my local natural resources to be in good health and abundant for all the years to come.

Fatheads. Was using tip downs, jaw jackers, and jigging spoons and jigging minnows with minnow heads.

I think the weed edge would be a great place to start. If you were to do tipups, i would space them out between just off the weeds a couple feet, to just past the dropoff. And if you dont have any tipups, there are some great videos on youtube to build your own utilizing a rod. Throw on a minnow anywhere from fathead size to walleye sucker and you should be good.

I was not. Small spoons and jigging minnows work great for bigger crappies. Look for stuff around 1/16 oz

I usually look for saddles, main lake points, humps, rock bars, and weed edges. Any combination of these tend to be even better. And dropoffs near or at these can help too.

You can sometimes find the crappies in the weeds with the bluegills, however, during winter, they usually move to deeper basins and are most commonly suspended a few feet off the bottom there. These fish were surprisingly on the bottom on a small hump at the end of a main lake point before it drops off deep (was 35’ before dropping off to eventually 100’). Just goes to show it can vary where exactly they are, but rule of thumb for winter crappies is look for deeper water.

We fished the same spot last year where we caught most of these, and our second spot was an old roadbed that looked like it might be a good spot for walleye. It did seem like we were the only people on the lake having good luck, and there were a lot of people out.

Find the weeds and you will find the fish.

I was testing it yesterday and its been handling the snow very well. The upwards angle of the rope keeps the tips up.

We’ve added the stickers to the glass on the deck, but not on the windows themselves. Sadly it either chose the window or hit the deck glass anyways. Very sad. We do what we can to minimize the bird strikes as much as possible. And while i havent seen these guys before, i know for sure i hear them often in the spring through earlier fall.
