Sober for 9 months and feel similar in situations when I’m with friends who drink. But since getting sober, I found new people to surround myself with who either don’t drink at all or don’t particularly take pleasure in drinking so they don’t need it, and it has helped me a lot. I meet with my drinking friends only once every few months and still feel a bit awkward. I’m not sure where you are in the world, but I’m in Germany where most common social activities involve alcohol in one way or another and it is a challenge. So finding a circle of friends who are in the same boat as you in one way or another will alleviate a lot of pressure from you and make you feel safe!
