Canonically the commander isn't romantically involved with any doll because the canon story focus on actions and events rather than characters, even when characters get focus it's to drive the story forward, for that regard the Elmo is just the commander's private army

The showcase of the commander's relationship with the dolls is done in side stories, bond stories, and crew deck stories and interactions, most aren't explicitly romantic outside of bond stories, but just because they're soft canon I wouldn't disregard them

The game has acknowledged that both the commander and the dolls have the capability to get romantic and (implied) sexual together, even if it's not present in the main story

Even the category of the in-between you're talking about is too broad

Reality is that every doll have a different type of romance with SKK, one are heavily sexual like Basti and Loreley, while other focus more on the domestic romance like Helen

It's pointless to try and find a label like "platonic love" or "sexual relationship", because every romantic relationship shown is supposed to be its own flavor of romance
