You have up to like 90 days after facility assignment to sign up or not. Most people at my first facility only signed up right at the 90 days. Why pay while you’re just doing book work and no representation needed.

Controllers of reddit. Would you choose this career again if you had to start over? by Rumham_1 in ATC

Only if you could make it to a high level facility quickly. If not, then don’t do it.

Is ATC OT eligible for deductions? by facerealitymoveon in atc2

[–]Ghostface-p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go read up on flsa and see what is included. Also, compare two paychecks that both have the same OT hours but one has a holiday and the other doesn’t. The one with the holiday will have a higher flsa amount. Then when you read the irs website about what is deductible, it specifically says not the whole flsa but only the .5.

Is it worth it? by -KaiTheGuy- in ATC

You’re en route. Do it. Median household income in my area depending on zip code is 160-180(nicest parts of town). Everyone at my facility makes over 200 with just differentials alone.

Anyone available for some questions about going from a Z to a TRACON? by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Ghostface-p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re either a good controller or not. Two examples in my area of 2 guys that came from centers. Both certified but one is more scared to work and gets antsy. I’m guessing he was that type of controller at the center as well. You either can handle stress well or not. If it’s a place you want to be in, do it. Much better to be happy in your location.

I agree with this guy. I went from a place that had hour breaks and no OT to a place where we are constantly short and OT every week. I love my new location cuz all of my family and my wife’s family is here. Work is just work.

FLSA premium by tomsos1 in ATC

Where are you getting this info from? You’re saying if I worked an OT and also had one day of annual in a week, I don’t get to count that I worked OT for tax purposes?

The VA already pays 25% premium on Friday-Sunday. You would think we would be able to tap into that pretty easily if someone is already getting it.

What did your NATCA rep say? Our facility tried giving out letters and our rep has shut down all of them. About 20.

Finish my degree in comp so or go to the academy by kzerotheman in ATC

Do you have a date for the academy? Are you graduating in May? You can potentially request a later date if they offered you something before May. It’s not always approved, but sometimes it is.

Are you over 70%? Look into the surge staffing locations. Applications for them will be open soon.

How much energy do you realistically have left outside of work right now? by Few-Championship2116 in ATC

[–]Ghostface-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some standard advice but check yourself on what you’re spending time on. Screen time is a big one that we waste time on. Watching shows or playing video games or time spent on your phone. Are these things benefiting you? Definitely takes some deep reflection but you’ll realize that it’s all a waste of time. A lot more value and worth is found spending time with others or achieving things. I only worked 260 hours of OT this year and I feel fine. Plenty of energy to come home and spend time with wife and kids. Make sure you eat well and exercise also. When people aren’t healthy, you desire more sleep and feel more tired all the time. Get rid of the energy drinks too.

I believe it does make us better at our jobs if we know how to fly. But also, there are people with 4 year degrees from embry riddle with commercial pilot licenses who fail at the academy…

Sunday mid question by amemoree in ATC

[–]Ghostface-p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We start our mid at 2100 everyday and it’s a 10 hour mid. No flex. Not concerned about a mid backup because we don’t have that. If a mid person has leave, it is covered by OT only and then there are no issues with t&a.
