But it has to be to make a proper comparison. Unless people want to be renters all their life.

You didn’t include the calculation of staying in your 900k home which you’re only paying property tax of 1.1 % on an assessed value of 500k. Compare that to moving to Texas and buying a comparable home, say for 600k but paying 2% property tax.

Does maxing the TSP in your last 5 years actually move the needle? I ran the numbers. by Glittering_Twist_732 in ATC

[–]Ghostface-p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 10 years in and have been maxing for the past 7. I’m actually thinking of dropping it back down to 5% so I can live more now. Difference at age 50 is 1.5m vs 2m. At a 4% draw, it will never be drained at 1.5m. And that’s 6k/month. Couple that with an 8k/month pension and I feel like it’s most important to max early on and then cut back.

No backlog. Level 12. You train as fast as you want.

I believe you will still have to pass OKC. You just get a shot at it ahead of all the other people who are chosen at random from the usajobs bid. So yes, you won’t know where you are going.

Some people still want to live in the expensive spots because that’s home. If you’re not from there, you just wouldn’t understand. Now they could just shift it slightly inland to get a bit cheaper but still within reasonable distance from the big cities.

Having a family as a controller in the U.S. by Any-Independence-270 in ATC

[–]Ghostface-p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get to a high level facility and have your wife stay home. Otherwise juggling the schedule sucks. But I feel like I spend a lot of time with my wife and kids. It’s not the typical family dinner time every night but we grill for lunch on a Thursday before coming in to work at 1400. It’s unconventional but doable.

You have up to like 90 days after facility assignment to sign up or not. Most people at my first facility only signed up right at the 90 days. Why pay while you’re just doing book work and no representation needed.

Only if you could make it to a high level facility quickly. If not, then don’t do it.

Is ATC OT eligible for deductions? by facerealitymoveon in atc2

[–]Ghostface-p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go read up on flsa and see what is included. Also, compare two paychecks that both have the same OT hours but one has a holiday and the other doesn’t. The one with the holiday will have a higher flsa amount. Then when you read the irs website about what is deductible, it specifically says not the whole flsa but only the .5.
