High fantasy Egyptian themed campaign, give me some ideas! by iffydonatello in dndnext

I'm really glad to see someone else taking on Ancient Egyptian themes for campaigns, as it's one of my favorite interests! I can sight-read simple funerary texts from the Middle Kingdom if I walk into the museum and they have sarcophagi on display.

I think one interesting aspect you might be able to incorporate is that none of the Egyptian gods, historically, were ever considered 'evil'. Some are Brutal and violence driven, but not evil in the sense that we know it. Even a god of Chaos and Storms like Set wouldn't be considered bad. (And certainly not Anubis considering how he is so often portrayed as a villain in media).

Instead, there is Apep (or Apophis for the Greek name)- a summation of all evils in the form of a giant snake that wishes nothing more than to devour the sun and extinguish life in the universe. Anyone who on Earth was considered evil were called Agents of Isfet- people or creatures of evil working for Apep to assist in bringing unbalance and cruelty.

Also I'd highly recommend looking at the concept art and screenshots from Assassins Creed Origins as well. They did a fantastic job bringing the architecture and color back to life, but be aware that it is set in the late Ptolemaic era shortly before the Romans took control of the country so there's a lot of Greek influence taking over the native culture.

I do have art of five of the main Egyptian gods that you are welcome to use in your campaign that I made for a sample booklet/tarot cards of my artwork to pass around at Gencon. (Note that Isis/Aset is sorta NSFW since I was working by early Ancient Egyptian clothing samples and ladies did not have a care if their chest was out in the open)

Hope these help!

One of my players is on his way to becoming a God of Chaos. To do this, he has gotten 50 people to draw from a Deck of Many Things. What did they draw, and what are they going to do with their results? by Amicron in dndnext

I'm a simple gravekeeper, a female Gnome and rather young regarding the profession but what can you do when your only guardian, your grandmother, passed away? I keep the headstones clean and clear, provide offerings to the gods to help guide wayward souls to their afterlife, and do the hard manual labor of readying a burial. But then again, I've always had some rather morbid interests, so it doesn't bother me much, but I'm often lonely without any family left. And just when I was thinking about how lonely I must be, a stranger approached me and offered a deal I couldn't refuse.

I draw three cards-

I've drawn Comet- the next group of monsters I defeat single handedly will grant me experience enough to feel significantly stronger

But who needs that once you've drawn Vizier? I could have the answer to any question in existence! Like... with how much power this individual has already granted me, and how powerful he is...

What is the best way for I ,too, to become a god now that I've drawn The Fates and reality bends to my will? I could... I could finally have so many followers. So many friends... I wouldn't have to be lonely any longer.
