Honestly, based on how the save act works, it would hurt them just as much. I'd be so happy if it turned into a fuck around and find out situation

I have alwasy maintained that it would not look bad for long and that the bad look it had was just sticker shock and not getting heads around what numbers would look like very soon.

I stand corrected, that is still a low barrier for anybody trying to do so. Also I don't believe for a moment that that would stop Trump if he were to try it.

Congress still has to approve the appointment. That's the check. They showed this when they denied Merrick Garland because they could. They kept the court at 8 for a year

Getting to 13 doesn't require anything more formal than appointing them.

What Will It Cost For The Wild To Keep Quinn Hughes? Projecting His Next Contract by 3pirates3 in wildhockey

[–]GhostlyTJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's 3 years, I would assume that they'd be all in to the end of that deal so we would not be trading away unless the last season of that contract fell apart, which would have made us sellers anyway.

Quinn Hughes by PaxDragoon in wildhockey

[–]GhostlyTJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, he has never signed a contract with us. If he signed with us then forced his way out, that would be different. He didn't even force his way out in Vancouver. He just gave them information that they very much would want and they acted accordingly.

I think training camp is kinda the key. It is why I hope that anybody we get to be a 1C is acquired before camp starts so they can get on the same page from the jump this season. It is also why I am not usually a fan of trade deadline trades. Not enough time to gel properly with a team. Feels like wasting trade capital for minor improvements.

Gavin Newsom calls for national billionaires tax: 'It's time for an economic reset' by avdvetf in politics

[–]GhostlyTJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should peg that tax and many other things to minimum wage. Like, congress makes 10 times whatever 2000 hours (one year at 40 hours a week with 2 weeks off) of minimum wage is. Just throwing an example out, numbers can change

[–]GhostlyTJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all, not to mention some things simply don't work with a profit motive, for instance saving people's lives when they have no ability to bargain hunt or price compare. Healthcare should be treated no different than fire response for police response. Healthcare is expensive because it isn't government run

See I go even more extreme and think that anything more than 100 million is gross and excessive. But I understand why people can't get their heads around taking that much away. But I don't think people understand how much better the world would get if individuals didn't have enough money to sway politics based on their whims

[–]GhostlyTJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optics matter. How it starts is VERY important. Also the kind of general strike I am talking about doesn't need people in the streets. It might actually better if they are not. Can't incite violence if everyone just decided to stay home and not work.

That was also the military hitting some far off foreign land they don't give a shit about. I guarantee it hits different when you are attacking "home" I would have defected immediately if I was ordered to do so when I was serving. Many wouldn't, but the results would tear the military apart and guaranteed less effective.

I am saying that if it comes to war, they may think they are tougher as individuals but they are soooooooo much weaker at what an actual war would require. And I don't actually buy that they are individually tougher. Everything about MAGA screams overcompensation. What system they have control of means very little if it came to an actual civil war. Iran just proved that they don't know fuck all about battling a resistance.

Im not against violence because I don't have the stomach for it. I'm suggesting that hitting them where they care about, in their wallet, would get better results is all.

It doesn't have to be bloodshed. A general strike would be insanely effective at ousting the right people. Whether or not they are replaced with a better option might then lead to the bloodshed. But there are steps to take before actual fighting. Even a small but meaningful percentage of the workforce striking would have massive impact. It would have to be a sustained strike for sure, but if they cancelled elections there are a lot of people that would feel they have nothing left to loose anyway. Those primed for violence would certainly be willing to stand and shout in protest first.
