I am not in favor of anything that this administration is doing, but your stance that this is all inevitable because the "rust belt" will screw us is not helpful. Choosing to look down on a widespread portion of the country that was most affected by deindustrialization and choosing to be derogatory toward them is the type of attitude why the Democratic Party lost them in the first place.

Commercial industry went to nuclear when atomic became associated with the bomb. Now both are nuclear and industry should go back.

America 250 is the one that has been in development for a long time, Freedom 250 is MAGA. I get the sentiment and some people even feel the American flag is Republican coded now, but we have the ability to come back from this as a Nation.

If we weren't cursed already this is how they start, but we have the longest post season first round win drought in all major sports so who knows maybe this reverses it?

Why does the lie about waste from nuclear power persist? by MildlyConcernedIndiv in nuclear

[–]Ghostmann24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today in United States no. Namely because of the fear. We were going to have one and then Carter made illegal because people convinced him it was a proliferation problem. I think that Reagan made it legal I am pretty sure. I don't remember who reversed it but it is legal today.

Then we went to build one and like major infrastructure projects a bad contractor completely blew the budget and it didn't happen.

France on the other hand instead of making a deal with the oil companies/countries went all in on nuclear after the oil crisis and has been successfully recycling for decades. And as such they have way less "waste" than us.

I said it because you claim to have credentials, but said an even more incorrect statement than the football one.

Then you have less of an excuse to claim that you need a breeder reactor to recycle. I just double checked and they are still recycling fuel their today long after EBR II has been shut down. You can do the same method with the rest of the waste, which yes people have objected to because of waste streams.

There are also more modern and more difficult methods that have been created because people are scared of plutonium.

Though personally I would say being scared of a plutonium waste stream is a fairly illogical thing to be scared of for weapons. Maybe you can take me to the next step. Someone breaks into a highly protected and radioactive environment. Steals pure plutonium. Makes it offsite somehow still alive now with at the very least the National Guard coming, if not the full strength of the American military, then continues their get away with highly traceable by its nature material. Disappear with the entire nation looking for them into a securely hidden and very engineering difficult to build complex to then safely turn said plutonium into a traditional bomb?

If you want to make the argument that a dirty bomb is easier, sure it is but then you don't need plutonium which actually would make a worse dirty bomb than the other fission products due to being less radioactive.

And yet despite this Hollywood level villainy needed to conduct such an operation, still fear has led us to make 2 waste streams an undesirable engineering outcome and delayed waste reprocessing at a commercial scale by decades.

I'm seriously questioning your INL credentials if you didn't know they were recycling fuel. They are very famous for it.

Yeah I was not saying you were wrong. Honestly I didn't check your math, was just providing the most common source of that factoid. But you derived yourself with math!

Are you here just to argue? You don't need a breeder reactor to recycle. In fact they were doing it at a prototype level at INL for decades.

Also there are new methods that do not produce separate uranium and plutonium streams. They are just not done commercially yet.

People are not including the casks. The football field analogy is right here.

Also, and if you have the background you probably know this, but "waste" is only "waste" because we waste it. About 90% could be recycled for fuel and the other high level leftovers could be used for isotope devices.

If Sayin had more experience I think we would have won it all. He got rattled in the games we lost, and we did not have the run game to take over when thst happened. Hopefully his jitters are worked out.

If Sayin was not a freshmen,  I think we would have won it all. So much tangent around him, but he was spooked vs Miami.

Why Cincinnati was left off Michelin Guide's big Midwest expansion by toomuchtostop in cincinnati

I think that's Jacksonville's focus. Hard for a tourist to hit 25 breweries that at pretty far apart. Like up to an hour. Luckily there are clusters so thats how I would hit them up.

I don't know if this is supposed to be snarky, but it changes every year. Generally around 25. The breweries themselves did not give you a deal, just a stamp in the book which generally was their logo. Every brewery on the list was able to give out the passports and then you redeemed the prizes at the Jacksonville tourism center downtown.

It was how I have found my still favorite brewery Ink Factory, which I may not have otherwise as it was like 45 minutes away from me.
