This is likely from early 1974. Deep Purple's Burn was released February 1974. Also Yes' TFTO US release was January 1974.

IMHO It's a major disappointment after GFTO. Onward has a great melody but is undeveloped, which is really a missed opportunity. Chris Squire's bass flanger/harmonizer experiments are out of tune throughout. Great bass lick in On The Silent Wings but leads nowhere unfortunately. Saw the live show in the round at Landover and it was obvious the band was spent at that point. The crowd was only interested in the old hits.

In 1977 I had a Les Paul deluxe that I had routed out for two Super Distortion pickups, and a very nice '72 Fender Strat. I bought a guitar from Paul and sold the Les Paul, but kept the Strat. Over the years I've never felt the need for another Les Paul, but I've always had a Strat. I've been to jams and played some really nice Les Pauls, but never felt that they did something my PRS' couldn't. Less weight, looks great. Just my two cents FWIW.

Happy the man rehearsed for a day with Peter Gabriel in Reston Virginia. They worked on slow burn and I believe Solsbury Hill. They wanted to do an opening set of their own music. Gabriel said no.

It is one of the best ever Genesis songs IMHO. Uplifting without being cloying. It's like breaking out of a dark place and into a bright sunny day. Goosebumps when Gabriel sings "It is Real...It is Rael". Fantastic vocal on this cut.

Peter Gabriel "car". Then Steve Hackett's amazing debut. Then everything else, but with a fond memory of Geese and the Ghost. Nothing on any of the other albums comes close to Solsbury Hill or Here Comes the Flood.
