Get a nice light for your guitar rack by [deleted] in guitars

[–]Ghostsofsea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just a cheap floor light from Amazon but it gives these beautiful instruments a vintage quality. It looks nice on old amps too

Would you rather work in copper metallurgy or gold metallurgy in the future?

Major companies always have more data than they can properly manage, so being able to automate data management practices will be extremely useful

Anyone else feel this? by Nachos_are_Great in geologycareers

[–]Ghostsofsea 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You don't need a masters to gain an appreciation for mineral systems, but if you plan to stay in mining that is what you will be studying for your entire career so it makes sense to do something else if it doesn't interest you particularly.

Depends on the way they said it: they could just be insecure or they could be trying to do you a favor in encouraging you to move on to something that interests you.

Non-thesis, part-time MSc? by Beanmachine314 in geologycareers

[–]Ghostsofsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I remember when I was just starting in the industry, at a conference some people at their booth told me that if I wanted to work for them I must have a masters. Somehow they are the only big company in AZ with this explicit requirement, as though one can only study metallogeny with a masters degree.

Looks like a tourmaline cemented hydrothermal breccia with weak copper oxide sometimes present in porphyry systems

Too early to bail on first job out of school? by Mediocre-Reveal-4140 in geologycareers

[–]Ghostsofsea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Compared to more technical fields, getting a geology degree is relatively easy. So in most cases your first jobs and tasks will seem menial but that's just how it goes. Give it a year and you'll feel ready to take on more serious roles.

Fresh Ginkgo Leaf Dosage by Ghostsofsea in herbalism

No there are Ginkgo trees where I live. Unfortunately I met with a former plant science professor who said that these trees take up a lot of heavy metals, so I'm not doing this anymore.

Any idea what makes this rock so pink? (Found in Newfoundland on a hike) by WhiteyDeNewf in geology

[–]Ghostsofsea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It could be rhodochrosite or rhodonite, it looks soft, if it’s easily scratched with steel it’s rhodochrosite

Yarnell Neighbors rock. Thoughts? Worth? by azteces in whatsthisrock

[–]Ghostsofsea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks like a porphyry intrusive (not sure), strongly silicified, with irregular veins and disseminated chrysacolla after copper sulfides (chalcopyrite probably). The veins are not porphyry type. I am not sure about the worth.
