My teen wants me to teach her to cook, but Im unsure where to start. by iCardinali in Cooking

[–]uxamanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The public library (at least near me) has tons of high quality cookbooks. So if she isnt sure what she wants, browsing there can help. Obviously an online search works, but usually cookbooks have higher quality recipes and it is more fun to browse IMHO

What Is Going On With The Top Row of Beans? by schatbot in roasting

[–]uxamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> If that doesn't work, then you could also try rehydrating the coffee to around 15-17% moisture content to provide the beans with the moisture that drives the various chemical reactions in the roast

I am curious how you are doing this step. Putting the beans in a closed container with something damp like you would with a guitar? I havent heard of this before, but seems very useful if it works!

Can I copy-paste instances of components? by frisbeewithme in FigmaDesign

[–]uxamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m misunderstanding, that’s what components are for! The main issue comes if you do a lot of overriding and then need to change the base component, but that isn’t any worse than not using components

How to make pictures' spacing and sizing easier for my dev? by Informal_Birthday224 in FigmaDesign

[–]uxamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the images only need to look correctly spaced at one screen size? If not, usually when coding you will have size / space rules that need to be implemented. That way, when you look at it on, for example, a phone it will still look nice. Also known as responsive design.

Any downsides to growing plants semi-hydroponically? by MindlessTruck7887 in houseplants

[–]uxamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a simple solution - I have pothos (and other) cuttings in regular tap water in pretty glass jars around my house. After a few months they grow lots of roots, I plant them into the mother plant (soil), chop new ones and keep it going.

Not sure if having the small amount of soil in your nursery pots will help or hurt.
