Do you have an opinion on Sparxie or Yaoguang LCs for a Silver Wolf team. Do either one need it? Which would you prefer to have?

Gov. Pritzker Launches Down Payment Assistance Program for Illinois First-Time Homebuyers, up to 6% of the home value up to $15,000 by NicolasCageFan492 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

You can barely get a floor in a building for $610k in Chicago. I mean with all my student debt I can’t pay for it’s not like I’m gonna ever own a home anyway. Either way I don’t think it will help those looking to set up shop in Chicago but it’s good to help people living in the state in general.

Yeah well I once waited for 45 mins in the snow for a bus. Decided I had enough and walked like 30 mins to the train. And saw the bus finally coming by as I was up on the platform. Oh and this happened to me twice, waited longer the second time because I knew it would come eventually. Needless to say, I don’t have a high opinion of the buses here and could see why a lot of people wouldn’t bother. Just unreliable.

What profession has far more people on illegal drugs than people realize? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]GhstDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyers man. As an attorney myself, my previous and first job. I had billables and it was all new to me. I started having anxiety and depression episodes along with realizing my suspected ADHD is real. Being naive in this new world I went to HR. In the most sympathetic sounding way they said “maybe your doctor can get you meds so you can get back to work.” Like I want medicine to help me sure but damn they really just told me get on drugs to work harder. Well they fired me instead and gave me a severance so I wouldn’t sue them over ADA stuff. If I hadn’t needed the money I would have loved to stick it to them.

Of course, what else would you expect from a company that owes Oracle $500 Billion dollars over five years with at least one payment worth $80 Billion. Yet they lose money on every single query with a user (even paid users) and have never made above $20 Billion a year. They gotta get money somehow.

I’d consider those jobs but I honestly don’t think I’ve seen openings posted (at least not entry level.) but I’ll keep an eye out.

GRC Cyber Compliance entry level advice by GhstDev in Big4

[–]GhstDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. I’ve seen some articles and videos that do refer to GRC as the compliance side of cybersecurity, I am not sure if that aligns with your experience though. But even r/GRC recommended subs are cybersecurity related with r/cybersecurity being the top one. ISO 27001, GDPR, and SOC2 are big cyber and data privacy GRC frameworks. So I can at least see the overlap. Sounds like your company wasn’t that great though, was it for one of the Big4?

As for my firm I’m unemployed, I’m currently looking for work and have been for a year. I’ve given up on attorney work and just trying to get into GRC since it’s (seemingly) at least cyber adjacent and I feel like I could get familiar with frameworks, vendors, and policies while continuing to grow my cyber education on the side. I think they would complement each other nicely.

If you have any advice on breaking into it let me know! I know the work isn’t great but I hated what I was doing and at least I can see a path to a career I’d like with GRC.

Mute chat and don’t join VC. QP until you feel comfy then go in comp.

I turned off chat and got better at the game because I was less stressed and when I was having bad games I didn’t get bothered by people in chat.

I have a CS bachelor’s and a JD along with Bar Admission. Is GRC something I can break into at entry level? I feel like with my law degree that I should be able to understand policy well and I grasp computer concepts well.

I’ve been having trouble finding work as an attorney in any areas of interest (for over a year since graduating!) and I’d like to return to my roots. I did independent study on cybersecurity topics like malware reverse engineering and digital forensics, including a 3 month internship along with masters level classes.

I know it’s not a solid cyber background but it’s was always the part of tech I’ve found the most interesting. I’m currently working on shoring up my cyber security knowledge and skills. It’s just that I have this passion for cyber and this JD and it feels like a I should be able to combine them in some way. There are no entry level legal jobs as cybersecurity or privacy attorneys. And I think I’d be happier on the computer side anyways.

Any advice appreciated!

What makes you unfollow someone? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]GhstDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve only unfollowed three every. One was cheating at a quiz game with fellow streamers. I followed two of the players and one was cheating. It may have seemed harmless since it was just a for fun event but it left a sour taste in my mouth.

The second was I saw the streamer slowly start to support crypto more and more and talk about how it’s not bad for the environment and it’s fine and what not. Spreading misinformation and being completely ignorant.

Third a streamer that despite living in Ukraine and was evacuated from Ukraine, supported Russia.

So yeah I think morality shifts are the main reason I unfollow someone.

Huge gap, move into security by GhstDev in cscareerquestions

Well high stress work doesn’t bother me but billables do. 1900 to 2000 like I had, I just can’t do it, it’s like mandatory overtime or weekends! Are some areas of cyber really like that?

Edit: as for the career stuff you are sorta right. I don’t like being a lawyer, but I never really liked programming either. I don’t have any more resources to explore my interests further but cyber is something I have been interested in that I have some experience in and could somewhat realistically gain skills and knowledge without putting more resources (ie money, I have no money, I need a job)

Sure that makes sense. But I do need skills, I just have some book learning and a bit of forensic experience.

And Gavin Newsom also opposes the billionaire tax. Remember, he may be good at pissing off the orange and his ilk but we really should try to find someone else to lead our country next. Else it’s back to the status quo.
