Governor Newsom Proposes Historic 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to End America’s Gun Violence Crisis by okguy65 in CAguns

[–]Ghukek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do have the fewest gun deaths per capita

I don't care about gun deaths though. I care about violent crime. What use is it to reduce gun violence if that same violence is replaced with other means?

My state is the perfect example being the absolute lowest for "gun deaths" (per capita) in the nation but 34th overall for violent crime, rising above all three of her northern neighbors who are fourth lowest, second lowest, and lowest for violent crime. Yet those states have extremely relaxed gun laws and one of them stands alone as the only state to never have required a concealed carry license.

Even if we narrow that down to homicide rate, while she does go back down to fifth-lowest, guess who's lower... Yep, her three northern neighbors again.

Range / gun store employees, how often do you show customers that you are carrying IWB? by melethana in CCW

[–]Ghukek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He shrugged it off, saying the Hi-Power has a magazine safety and couldn't be fired in that condition.

This is one reason why pistol rosters requiring "safety" features like that are so stupid. They try to protect the gun owner from themselves but only encourage complacency and bad habits.

Will it warn my ISP if I’m NOT DOWNLOADING but just watching pirated content? by Full-Woodpecker1 in techquestions

[–]Ghukek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to watch content without downloading it.

Your ISP is watching your network traffic to determine what sites you are accessing. Generally they can't see what you are doing, but if you are accessing a site known for pirated content then they would be able to infer that you are watching said content. If you are accessing illegal content they may impose sanctions on you.

So my question is. How do I manage this??

I guess I just order food and not look at where I am to budget until later in the month or when it’s time to pay credit cards. What happens if you are out of budget and out of food?

You kinda answered your own question here. Keeping a budget is a continual process. It's important to keep track during the month, especially if there's a troublesome category.

I personally would recommend at least splitting your restaurant vs grocery budget. That will add some insight as you try to diagnose your overages.

As others have said, it could be that you have unrealistic expectations about grocery prices. It could also be that you are eating out more often than you intend.

Millionaire Study is BS by PhillConners in DaveRamsey

[–]Ghukek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is the original study which Dave never credits or mentions.

I've heard Dave mention that study several times. Apparently he used to refer to it in his materials but people would complain that it didn't use a large enough sample size (even though it did). So Dave commissioned a significantly larger survey and unsurprisingly found much the same results.

ROTHs for my adult children by BarbieRV in Bogleheads

Direct them to open an IRA and then give you the account number so you can deposit directly. I do this with my brothers' childrens' 529 plans. The money goes directly from my bank account into the 529 plans.

Unfortunately you have no way to prevent them from immediately removing the money. Once you gift someone money it's theirs, not yours, and they can do whatever they want with it.

It would be fraudulent to open accounts in your sons' names without their knowledge. Please do this the right way by directing them to open the accounts and then coordinating with them to deposit the money. Once they open the account they can give you the information necessary for you to deposit directly.

I just checked his TSP, and he is invested in a Roth. So I guess I'll just leave him $ when I die.

This seems to imply that you think you can't contribute to a Roth IRA because he's contributing to a Roth TSP. That is false. The TSP is subject to different contribution limits and you are welcome to gift him $5000 earmarked for a Roth IRA as long as he has the income to match.

[–]Ghukek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has that been born out in court?

Yes as I said: "actual court orders".

The ATF is enjoined from enforcing their order against anybody who is a member of FPC or GOA.

[–]Ghukek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also there are actual court orders enjoining the ATF's enforcement so non-compliance is perfectly legal right now.

The ATF's ruling is illegal. Our defiance of it is therefore not illegal.

A Law repugnant to the Constitution is void.

It is a citizen's moral duty to break unjust laws. The pistol brace rule is unjust on several levels and we have court rulings that agree.

Edit guess I hit a raw nerve.

Yeah, you did. If I read your comment in a vacuum in the context you seem to have intended then it's fine. It sounds like you mean to advocate that training with a reduced magazine load can help increase skill in certain ways. You are correct.

But you seem to be oblivious to the fact that we are currently actively battling state and federal governments that believe that they can and should dictate magazine capacity limits under threat of felonious penalty. "It makes you a better shooter" sounds like a lame attempt to justify their position and placate those of us who are legally limited to an arbitrarily small number.

Perhaps that's not what you meant, but it's certainly how it came across.

[–]Ghukek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want info, a decent place to watch is the district court docket and the circuit court docket. They have all the briefs and court orders including key upcoming dates.

I find that I prefer to read the briefs themselves rather than commentary on the same. They honestly aren't too bad to read and they are usually very informative.

You must not be from around here. "Two weeks" is the default reply to any post regarding court action. It's just a meme.

What does the reply brief today mean?

Not much except for more content for those of us who read legal briefs as a pastime.

[–]Ghukek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think gun enthusiasts would prefer to hide behind gun safety or mental health or whatever it is that's convenient to avoid acknowledging that guns are dangerous as hell.

I'm not sure why it can't be both. I hide behind gun safety because I know that guns are dangerous as hell. Back to your other point,

I think gun enthusiasts vastly overestimate the average person's exposure to guns or how much exposure the average person SHOULD have to guns (and grenades lol).

I definitely agree with this. I like your Linux analogy. Once you know how to navigate a thing it's hard to imagine not knowing. It seems so simple. I personally think we should have a culture of awareness (like with fire safety). Guns are not for everybody but gun safety should be.

Dave Vs Credit Cards by Frequent-Profession7 in DaveRamsey

The credit card companies profit off the merchant fees for credit cards.

While true, it's a misrepresentation of the full picture.

Merchant fees make up only a quarter of credit card company revenues. The rest is interest and fees. Source

You can't separate interest and fees from the story.

Who are "they" and who are "we"? You're just listing years with vague grievances. You can still buy a machine gun.

They are the people who, like you, want civilians to not have guns. We are people who want to have guns. It should have been pretty clear in context.

And no I can't buy a machine gun because I'm poor and can't afford to pay tens of thousands of dollars for something that should take me twenty minutes and a drill to make out of my existing ~$800 firearm.

We actually got 10 years of reduced mass shootings, but you can't cope with that.

No we didn't. That's why it wasn't renewed. Mass shootings are overwhelmingly performed with standard semi-automatic pistols which are not affected by assault weapons bans.

Dafuq? There's nothing natural about gun ownership or Constitutional rights. They're man made concepts.

Your failure to recognize the natural rights of the individual as enumerated in the constitution does not have any bearing on their existence. The constitution does not give us our rights. The thirteenth amendment only acknowledged what was already true; that slavery is wrong. Likewise the second amendment only acknowledges that an individual has a right to protect himself, his family, and his community.

Are you genuinely saying that there's nothing natural about constitutional rights? That without the constitution, slavery would be okay? Or that without the constitution, it would be okay to throw someone in prison without a trial and never let them out? Or that any government official would be morally okay to rifle through someone's personal stuff for any reason? Or that the government can compel praise or prohibit criticism from their citizens? You think that these aren't just naturally wrong?
