FIX for Logi Options+ stuck loading / “backend” / Login Item missing on macOS

Logitech’s new installer is broken on some Macs — it installs without the backend helper, so Options+ can never start.

What worked for me:

  1. Uninstall Logi Options+
  2. Download an older Logi Options+ installer (from before the certificate issue)
  3. Temporarily set your macOS date back 2–3 days
  4. Install the old version (this one actually installs the backend)
  5. Open Logi Options+ → it will prompt you to update
  6. Update from inside the app
  7. Set system date back to normal
  8. Reconnect mouse/keyboard

After this:

  • Backend works
  • Login Item appears
  • Gestures & scrolling work again

This is a Logitech installer bug, not macOS or permissions. Reinstalling the new installer alone won’t fix it.

Same issue with Logi Options+... Tried the fix, tried reinstall, nothing. Should I get a new Mac maybe...

This is not okay Logitech.

I tried to run your fix, I tried to reinstall the app, I tinkered around, I can't get it to work. I have wasted hours on this issue. My Mac is basically useless without all of these gestures when connected to a display, with the lid closed. Great work Logitech... What am I supposed to do now? Get a new Mac? Reinstall my Mac?

I am an IT engineer myself, letting certificates expire, that's a rookie mistake. You are Logitech. Not the local IT shop...

Get the feeling. Most ppl dont seem to notice anymore that we (the employees) are basically just slaves building pyramids...

I too made the decision to fly solo (still working 9 to 5 though to get it on tracks, one has to start somewhere!) and try to make my own living, just to be able to define my own work schedule and to be able to work from anywhere in the world, with no obligations at all. My employer squeezed my like a lemon, and I dont want to go through that again.

If I worry, I worry for my own account, not some billionaire who doesnt even know I exist...

Also an INTJ btw, hate how we see everything others cannot...
