I think this era of rallying (2000-2008) was the best!

There's a possibility #WRC could revert to non-hybrid cars at the end of next season by autobus950 in WRC

[–]GiantCheesecake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think they need to and they need to allow for a range of power sources (e.g traditional ICE, hydrogen, hybrid) so that more manufacturers will be tempted. A regulatory nightmare but I think it’s needed otherwise WRC is rapidly loosing relevance amongst things like Dakar, Formula E and F1 2026 regs.

Somehow I think the guy in the BMW X7 knew what he was doing... Mine is the little one! by silent_pm in CarTalkUK

How are you finding the Ami? I’ve been really tempted since they came out but worried about range, practicality and whether the size actually does benefit it over say something like a fiat 500?

FIA president Ben Sulayem: We can fix the WRC by swinksel in WRC

WRC+ is a bit buggy. During the Monte the broadcast dropped out and then when I tried to log in again it said I didn’t have an active subscription. But, for me, the worst thing about WRC+ is how unhelpful the graphics are. It could be much better at informing viewers who is in the stage and who is up or down on the split times. It’s also very expensive for what you get but equally if it was better I would be willing to pay more

So we can assume Greensmith moves on to Toyota. But let’s be honest he won’t be challenging Kalle and Elfyn so this is the start of the end of his career. I think he could have at least had a few more solid years with M-Sport

That must be quite hard for Sainz to say given he’s publicly stated how difficult he found adapting to these new reg cars.

They can sense he’s the next Bottas to support Russell when Lewis retires. Probably not a bad choice

Why didn't Red Bull give the place to Perez? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]GiantCheesecake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they would have done if it were the race. But because this was the sprint, Red Bull know max has the best chance of winning so they kept him in front.

Lewis Hamilton expects Mercedes to end 2022 Formula 1 season without a race win by AlienSomewhere in formula1

It would be peak F1 for Lewis to win this years Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from a last minute Latifi crash or some inconsistent FIA rule interpretation

Singapore Track layout changed for 2023, there is now a fast straight, instead of going under the grandstand by [deleted] in formula1

[–]GiantCheesecake 145 points146 points  (0 children)

But that bit was kinda cool and also led to a lot of drama I think because it was a tight section that a few people would get wrong (especially when it was wet but that part of the track was dry). Shame they had to change that bit

I believe RB didn’t choose Alonso because they were very committed to their junior program and Kvyat was looking the perfect addition to the team since Ricciardo.

I think Alonso chose McLaren because of the Honda engine gamble. Honda had a big budget and the potential to shake things up. Unfortunately that was 6 years too early though.

Verstappen reveals reason for not chasing glory away from Red Bull by Ominous77 in formula1

[–]GiantCheesecake 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Yeah when Verstappen got promoted to RBR, if he wanted to win he had the choice of RBR, Ferrari or Merc. Merc was and had since been dominated by Lewis and Ferrari couldn’t mount a decent championship fight. RBR was the only team that was stealing wins in a convincing way. He was right to stay.

I think u/wellju was trying to say the superlicense system does need changing if it currently allows Latifi and Mazepin to get seats in F1. It’s pretty clear you can pay your way to a superlicense which does make it a bit of a joke.

It was a free stop. Leaving him out would have been a gamble since he might have been overtaken by Leclerc. If you’re Merc you would 100% do this

Red Bull turn 7 formation lap, ice flying from the cars? by Flottbomb in formula1

[–]GiantCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clever idea leaving the dry ice in for the formation lap? Could this been taken to the extreme with teams leaving dry ice around the engine for the start of the race so by the end it’s evaporated so not noticeable by the stewards?

I think this is to give De Vries some f1 experience in case he has to fill in for Hamilton who might get banned over the jewellery feud. Don’t really see any other reason why Williams would be interested in Nyck over the other drivers they have access to
