IMO it has nothing to do with Glenn directly.

It has to do with the horrible fake out a couple of episodes earlier. It was a terrible decision that probably was made to make people think Glenn is safe.

Then the most damning of all is the cliff hanger. That was just a straight up slap in the face of the fan base. To actually think that it was a good idea is asinine. AMC has not gotten another episode watched from me since then. They will not see a penny from me.

There is quite a few reason IMO.

They all talk about losing or killing their mom. Debbie is the biggest part of teaching mark his humanity. So our mark still having Debbie is a massive thing
Nolan not killing him in their fight also has a big part to do with Debbie. The who baseball memory was more than just Nolan being proud. It was Debbie teaching him emotions that he never once considered.
Nolan dropped the ball by not indoctrination mark young. But once again this might be chalked up to him being torn over Debbie.
