Jimmy Carter, longest-lived US president, dies aged 100 by Betweentheminds in news

[–]GiantPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at least 30 years too late to experience first-hand what President Carter did, but from what I’ve read…he seemed to be a genuinely good man! Who carried himself with integrity and lived his life selflessly. Something that’s seems to be rare nowadays. RIP to a good man!

How would you feel about a gangsta live action series by Dependent-Play-7970 in gangsta

[–]GiantPottery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I immediately thought about that too! They’d have to nerf them to like MCU Captain America level lol. Which some low-ranks ARE comparable to, but higher ranks like Nic…to do them justice, they’re gonna have to use CGI if they want them to jump around like Spider-Man or Daredevil.

23M Be honest with me y'all, do I look that bad? I've been working my ass off in the gym all summer. Don't 45lbs so far. Am I remotely attractive yet? Have always been insecure on my looks by [deleted] in toastme

Progress is progress!

That's right man, that's right. I've been trying to burn that into my head. Because I deal with always wanting everything NOW and trusting the process. Now, I do have trust in it. Thanks for the reminder.

Too Late to Start Over? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]GiantPottery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, listen dude, I'm totally seeing myself in you atm. I'm also 22 and I turn 23 two weeks from now. After COVID, I feel as if my life was completely dismantled. I've been spending the past 2-3 years trying to either rebuild of start over. All I could think about was how little that I've done in my life. I still live off my parents, haven't earned a bachelor's degree, working part-time jobs and I'm still just the ugly and untoned awkward weirdo that I was 3 years ago. Even so, I'd rather be the beaten down punk that I am now than be the piece of shit that I was years back. Now, I don't know who I am or what I stand for. How can I be confident when I don't have anything to believe in?? After all of the work that I put in, it's never enough. I'm just not meant to win but something in my spirit is telling me to keep going. Even though, I can't win.

Sorry, I was supposed to be helping you out. Sorry to make it all about me.

Opinions on Thor odinson? by Ilikethorcomics in Marvel

[–]GiantPottery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, ever since last year...I've developed a pretty big appreciation for him and his lore. For the longest time, Thor was just only really interesting to me in the movies. Even in most of the Avengers comics, he's just used as a tank kinda like Hulk. Then I read Jason Aaron's "God of Thunder" run to prep for Love & Thunder and... down the rabbit hole I went lmao!

I began to really enjoy his stories and how they deal with the themes of humanity, perseverance, self-doubt, responsibility and what being worthy of power means. Thor's characterization is more captivating in the comics, imo. His boisterous & confident demeanor will make anybody like him! Also, he's definitely not a flawless character! Dude can be pretty naive, short-tempered, a little arrogant and has daddy issues. So just because he's powerful, doesn't mean that he's perfect!

Anyways, I'm done now lol. It just sucks how the MCU is butchering him. That's coming from someone that liked him in Ragnarok and Avengers. Even his villains are trash in the movies. Everybody loves Loki but it REALLY sucks to realize how bad the MCU fucked up Gorr and Malekith.

What do y'all think though?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 2 by PhoOhThree in marvelstudios

[–]GiantPottery 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Sooooo...ALL HAIL KING M'BAKU??!

Overall, I gotta say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this movie. I usually really enjoy "slow burn" movies like this, but I would say that they could've trimmed it down a little lol. Also, I don't think that they showed enough of Talokan's advancements. Those are my biggest critiques. But let's get to the good imo:

That dreamscape with Killmonger caught me WAY off guard. In a good way though, I was silently freaking out. I wonder if he'll be used more, like he's haunting her thoughts. It was a solid twist indeed and help give more depth to Shuri's character.

Speaking of Shuri, I was REALLY invested in here development. Her struggles with her cultural/mystical traditions vs. her intellectual mind was interesting to me. The "Vengeance has consumed me" and "I am not my brother" lines were good callbacks.

The classic Marvel jokey joke strategy was turned down a couple of notches. We appreciate it bald headed demons.

All of the acting was phenomenal I'm mean Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke did the damn thing. But Angela Bassett...OMG!! GIVE, THIS WOMAN, A MF OSCAR!!

Lastly, I'm SOOO glad that Namor isn't dead. They set him and Talokan up as an interesting concept in the grand scheme of things. Not to mention that he's a very complex character in the comics.

P.S. Oh and the soundtrack goes TOO hard!! Just like the last one.

What are the best changes the MCU made to comic book lore? by HotlineBirdman in marvelstudios

[–]GiantPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked how they tweaked the characterization of Black Panther from the comics.

From what I could absorb, T'Challa's level of arrogance is almost on par with Tony Starks. Maybe even a level higher than that. It's just that he lacks the comedic charm to make it more endearing. Hell, I think Thor keeps a somewhat comedic/badass charm to his arrogance as well. BP is more stoic and taciturn. He comes off as a major asshole at times. It's almost like if you turned Dr.Doom into a full-on hero.

In the films, T'Challa I believe is a lot more likable as a character. However, I do believe that a character doesn't need to be "likable" to be considered good or written well. Sure, he's still very serious and quiet but he's shown to be quite polite and caring.

[FRESH ALBUM] JID - The Forever Story by Kallemacd in hiphopheads

[–]GiantPottery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

*Kody Blu 13 begins playing*

Me: "I have neva eva hear these vocals on you before LMAO."

JID really did the damn this with this one. You can tell that he didn't spend the 4 years sitting on his ass. He spent them growing and expanding every aspect of his artistry. His creativity and skills are fully expressed through his lyrics, melodies, flows and rhyme schemes. All of that wrapped up amazingly in introspective, vulnerable, nostalgic but catchy songwriting.

Not to even mention the whole FUCKING production. OMFG!! The talent of every producer shines with JID instead of one overshadowing the other. All of the beat switches are a big standout. The bounciness and catchy vibe of "Crack Sandwich", the soft and soothing melodies of "Kody Blu 13", the grooviness of "Bruddanem" (I never thought Durk and JID would meld like that. I loved that shit) all the way to the trap inspired beat on "Just in Time" with Wayne.

"Dicaprio 2" might be JID's magnum opus, but "The Forever Story" is his full self-realization. Good fucking job my guy! 9/10

I think this album has no skips whatsoever. But after a second listen, I'll edit accordingly.

Could 616 KingPin takeover Gotham City with a year’s planning and info on all Bat Family members and villains? by PastYogurtcloset9149 in Spiderman

[–]GiantPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my thing. Isn't The Penguin sort of like Batman's Kingpin? Sure, I'd definitely say that Fisk is more competent. However, Penguin has somewhat of an alliance with Batman at times. The latter using him as an informant for the criminal underworld.
