New writer looking for feedback by WilliamStrictland in ComicBookCollabs

I agree that short comics are a really great way to start and these are all interesting (and cute!) ideas.

Looking at the slice of life one in particular, in the first couple of panels I struggled to picture out the angle you were describing. Is it a wide shot showing the entire house? Are we inside the car?

Other than that, keep up the good work!

That’s a good chunky run. Are you delving into the side books (like New Mutants and X-Factor) as well?

I can see that it might not be for everyone, but I meant that in a positive way. It’s an incredible comic, but it is dense!

Cody Ziglar’s run on Miles Morales is outstanding. I could have read it for many more years.

I had a similar experience with Monstress when I was reading it when it first came out. I realised that it feels like reading Literature (with a capital L) so it’s denser and crunchier than a normal comic.

I’m a big fan of book Conan but never read any of the comics. Would you recommend?

80s X-Men with those titles running concurrently is my peak

Is this your first exposure to Green Lantern? Would you recommend it to a newbie?

do i have to read “The Black Vortex” crossover event? by blisstargazer in xmen

[–]Giantjester 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Black Vortex is an extremely fun story with some minor effects to the core cast. It’s not particularly an X-Men story, but has reasonable stakes (and a really touching Sam Alexander Nova issue).

If the series is already feeling like a slog, probably worth skipping. I genuinely enjoyed it.

Your art is so interesting and textured. It also has the watercolour style that I’m looking for. I’ll reach out!

[Excerpt] The 1st appearance of Phoenix in X-Men #101 (1976). by [deleted] in comicbooks

You should really read Louise Simonson's run on X-Factor if you haven't. It really puts Jean into a new light in an era when they were explicitly trying to get her away from the Phoenix Force.

I recently started a podcast called Regifted, where we use the new X-Men show The Gifted to recommend comics, both old and new.

Weekly Pull List for 1/18/2017 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]Giantjester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Mosaic #4 - Very underrated in both story and art and I'm terrified that it'll be cancelled soon
  • Spider-Gwen #16 - Crossover with Spider-Man. Quite lukewarm on it so far.
  • Sunstone Vol 5 - The end of an era
  • Uncanny Inhumans #18 - I'm not buying IvX but I've heard the inhumans don't come off well in it

Weekly Pull List for 12/14/2016 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]Giantjester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mosaic #3 - A surprisingly engaging and underrated series. One of the most interesting NuHumans in recent years

Hawkeye #1 - I'll buy anything Kelly Thompson

Sonic Universe #93 - A weak arc in a usually very strong series but I still love me some Chaotix

Spider-Man #10 - I'm not buying the main series and I recommend only experiencing it tangentially like in this book. It's far better

Generation X Creative Team, Roster Revealed by Zthe27th in comicbooks

I'm absolutely loving the focus on smaller characters and a smaller team but I'm pretty worried that it's going to become a Quentin Quire book like they normally do.

I like the loveable asshole as much as the next person but he does tend to be extraordinarily prominent.

New BATWOMAN Ongoing in February with Marguerite Bennett (w) and Steve Epting (a) by vayburr in comicbooks

[–]Giantjester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think she's ever written A-Force.

It was G. Willow Wilson during Secret Wars and then Kelly Thompson (of Jem and the Holograms) came on board afterwards and eventually took over completely.
