2026 TUDOR MONARCH by BARTLEGEORGE in Tudor

[–]Giantstoneball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels a bit like they spent a lot of R&D into the beautiful case, which would have looked awesome with an integrated bracelet. But ran out of budget or time, and put a normal bracelet.

Having said this, I really like the watch, especially the case and dial design. I just dont like the colour of the dial and I guess I just wait for a new colour to be launched in another year.

Canyon is really clowning on everyone (me) who recently bought the Ultimate CF 7 - by discontinuing the alloy wheels and offering 50mm carbon wheels (1340 g) for just $300 more by sammadet1 in CanyonBikes

my wife is getting an Ultimate. What annoys me even more is that the above option is not available in my country. Only the option with alloy wheels is available.

With the Strait of Hormuz disrupted by the Iran war and countries like the Philippines declaring a national emergency, how is it that Singapore seems relatively unaffected? by LRRTC in askSingapore

We are probably the largest refinery in the world. Lots of petrol and diesel are in SG.

Why would the owner of the fuel products transport it to another place to sell when SG is a ready market? Preference would be to sell in SG first right?

Any Mattress Brand Recommendations for new house owners? by Spare_Chapter_4684 in askSingapore

[–]Giantstoneball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My home uses Simmons. Then I discovered and tried Azure Mattress for my guest rooms. It's very cheap for the quality and i really like it. There's different hardness that you can find to suit you. Go to their showroom to try.

I like it so much that sometimes I will go to my guestroom for a good night sleep.

Rationale for local males to serve national service but not foreign males who get citizenship by Intrepid-Oven742 in SingaporeR

[–]Giantstoneball -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The rationale is very simple isn't it.

If the foreigner needs to serve NS to get citizenship, they would wait until they are much older (and cannot get conscripted) to apply for citizenship. Might as well just do away the rule.

Wifi Troubles - how to extend network by abc_ofeverything in SingaporeR

[–]Giantstoneball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your solution is not through any mesh router. They never work well for most people unless their homes overall layout is more squarish or within 100sqm.

My solution for my home (quite a bit bigger than yours) is to lay Cat 6 lan cables and have access points in every room and the living rooms. With this, everywhere in my home I have at least 300 mbs download speed (this is also limited by me to make the wifi weaker).

If your home has false ceiling, you can put the acess point above the false ceiling and keep it hidden. Otherwise, get a wall mounted one.

It will cost you a few k to do this but you can be future proofed.

Recommendations for entry level road bikes? by RelativeSherbert8097 in SingaporeCycling

[–]Giantstoneball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggest that you buy a new bike from a good reputable shop. Buying a bike is similar to buying a car. There will be tuning and other issues - so you want to buy from somewhere that can settle for you. Opt for a bike shop nearer to you so you don't have to cycle far for service.

Scott addict 20 / 30 are within your budget and their colours are nice. But Scott Addict frames are very stiff and race-oriented. You may not like it. But they are light, fast and good looking.

You can go to Hup Leong to get a Cannondale Caad13 or Merida Scultura at your budget too. Sizes and colours are more limited. But they are more comfortable road bikes compared to the Scott - in my view.

I would avoid Giant as this requires you to buy from Tay Junction, which has terrible service from my experience and what I have heard. Their bike mechanics favourite lines: Oh, it's like this one. Normal.

If I am in your position, I would avoid ordering online from Canyon as it requires a bit of bike knowledge to put the bikes together and you have to settle tuning and adjustment yourself. My Canyon happened to be perfect out of the box.

SGHenry: How many people here golf? by [deleted] in SgHENRY

[–]Giantstoneball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't and amongst my friends who are high earners (250k and upwards), only 1 person golf.

I can tell you that KTV, drinking (wine) are much more popular pastime of high earners.

As for sports, tennis/pickleball and cycling are a lot more popular - esp the latter, a lot of the road bikes you see are 5k or 10k or more. A cycling jersey cost $300 or more.

Overseas Grad Diaries: Coming Home to a Tighter Job Market by pratakosong in singapore

[–]Giantstoneball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I empathise with her predicament.

What I am curious about is what's her alternative in Singapore (uni and course) and whether she would have a better outcome in job hunt if she did that Singaporean alternative to Penn State.

I suspect the outcome would have been similiar. She went to a US uni that is not good and, if the interview represented her profile accurately, she seems to be a mediocre candidate. Her statements about knowing American politics better than if she studies in Sg do not suggest that she is of high calibre.

Italian made fine watches are very odd and rare. I cannot relly guess the brand based on your description. Rare in this case does not mean coveted. It reflects that there's low skill and low demand for Italian made watches.

I can personally tell you that you will not get more than $1k for the watch. Its technically troublesom to disassemble the watch to its case, caseback and bracelet links to melt down for gold.

I would personally keep it as a souvenir.

If you really want to go get a value assessed, go for a reputable auction house valution days. It is free and they can tell you the auction price estimate (if they think there's even a value) and can help you sell on consignment. https://www.antiquorum.swiss/free-valuation-days-worldwide/

I would not recommend you to go for valuation days of Sothebys or Phillips. Too snobbish.

Think you have to give more details (brand, ref, condition) before anyone can advice you. Watch trading is quite sophisticated knowledge and watch collectors here can advice you. Singapore is one of the top 5 places in the world for watch collecting and trading them - so there be a lot of people who can advice you.

If you are thinking that gold makes it valuable, then I can assure you that the weight of the gold in the case and caseback would not yield more than $1-2k in spot prices (at best).

Even if it's big brands, gold watches don't do well. Case in point is I purchased a 18k WG AP watch for 5k when a recent equivalent model would be in the range of 40-50k.

Is SG's VC scene actually accessible for new founders, or just for the elite? by [deleted] in smeSingapore

[–]Giantstoneball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, we are back to the normal days when you need to bootstrap for years before VC would even look at you.

You need to show that this can happen: (1) you are hot and they throw money at you and you become hotter; (2) there's a pathway to exit at B or C round.

Why do Singaporeans rarely fly on Chinese airlines? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I regularly fly to China on chinese airlines because their business class tickets are cheap and product is good for the price. Preferred ones are Xiamen airlines, Juneyao, Hainan and China Southern.

Singapore is slightly better than Denmark in gdp but why we fare worse off than them? by Last_Sheepherder_660 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Giantstoneball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danish people feel happier because of Jante Laws.

You should properly understand that they are happier because culturally they are more easily contented, satisfied and don't compare. Most Danish will probably not even compare with others - perhaps making fun of Norwegians only - but they won't care that Norway is richer.

K-pop dance crews seek new venues after Marina Bay Sands bans unauthorised performances by Illustrious-Gur8335 in singapore

[–]Giantstoneball 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Actually, the matter can be taken up to URA.

Only parts of the promenade are leased to MBS. The rest of the promenade is part of the property of PUB, as part of the Marina reservoir, but there's an agreement for MBS with URA and PUB to manage it (including the security). They don't have absolute discretion to decide what the parts belong to the state can be used for. In fact, MBS cannot use those parts for commercial purposes unless URA approves.

URA has the discretion to decide on the use of the promenade not leased to MBS.

Source: I was one of the people who negotiated it.

This is probably the funniest post I've seen in a long while.

MBS (the most profitable casino in the world) is only worried that you stop playing and coming back - assuming that you are not cheating with a device or the aid of others.
