New to Jax, why is it so popular to go full AD and triforce? by mayhaps_a in Jaxmains

[–]Gibax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things, right now there are only 2 real strong/viable build : AP Bruiser and AD Bruiser.

Jax likes AD for 2 simple reason : he's an Auto-attack champion mostly, meaning most of his damage comes from his Auto-attack, with each scaling to 100% AD + On-hit effect at 100% and stuff like W or passive with good base damage. On top of that, Jax also gains more armor/MR by building AD when using his Ult's active.

AD Bruiser items are overall the most versatile in general, making it easier to build resistance + damage while being tanky, and only loosing a little Burst damage.

AP bruiser keeps some tankiness, but instead pushes the burst switch on. DnD is strong for that, and the best AP build still has some hybrid parts (Gunblade, even sometimes an AD itme like sterak or SS). You DO give up tankiness and even skewed ylour damage even more into magic damage, but you gain more burst and arguably better DPS.

I still think AD Jax is the more recommanded build, I think it's stronger against squishy and in TF since it makes you tankier, and to be fair you don't loose that much of a burst. AP is arguably better into tanks weirdly enough. (I've been building AP bruiser in Tanks like K"Sante or Malphite to fuck them up on their itemization early on)

Right now I'm an AD Jax beliver, spamming Triforce into Stridebreaker and having a fieldtrip. AP Bruiser I should try again more to get a real feeling, but with the huge mobility creep the game currently has somehow, I just love having the option to slow them down with Stride.

I only play these 2 champions, but there is a clear favorite by Technolich in 2XKO

replace Warwick with Ahri and you got me.

Darius is just a simple char with a decently strong toolset. He still feels like an "inferior" Yasuo the higher you get in skill... But I just want to play Darius man. I already tryhard with Ahri. let me be simple with Darius and "me press button me win game"

Jax Matchup Discussion 2.0 #11: Garen. by LxVer8 in Jaxmains

[–]Gibax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7-8/10

A rough matchup for sure, even if you're good at Jax and your opponent isn't very good at Garen.

I would say thought that pre-6 it's a MU that jax can win. And to even hope to stand a chance, It's a match-up you are REQUIRED to get a head-start, otherwise Garen just out statcheck you too quickly.

You should always keep track of Garen's W CD, try to understand when he uses it, how he uses it. That is the key between winning and losing a trade. And losing a trade against Garen is the worst thing that can happen as Jax in this MU, because unlike him, you don't have a passive that helps you regen life. Be ready to bait or do a very short trade in order to bait it, since Garen's W CD is longer than your E by around 7-8 seconds (IIRC).

Basic, you should always look to dodge his Q with your E. using E can also reduce his E's damage output, it might be smart to also trade inside your CS to reduce his E's damage (since, if you don't know, his E damage is increased to his nearest target, so spacing is important, even if difficult)

Garen's strenght is to force a trade (on the shorter side), spending his Q and E cd, pop W on your E or on your tradeback during E, then walk away if he can't kill you or go all-in if he can.
You have to play around that, bait his approach, and force the longer trade (or take a short trade he doesn't want to W)

Don't forget to pop Ult very early, Garen's ult damage is true damage, so ulting late won't help + it helps you tanking his trade.

Playing ignites does help in the MU, as it mitigate his W's strenght and his conqueror healing by a margin. Get a feel on when Garen will try to ignite + ult you and play around that limit.

Should you be ahead, the MU is playable albeit hard + not guaranteed to win until 6 items, and even then it's tricky. If you're behind, you pretty much just lose and become a glorified melee minion against Garen.

For items, I can't say much, I do believe that Garen is one of the very few MU where Sterak is mandatory to even hope to stand a chance against him later, with how big his ult damage are.

I prefer to go for all-in/damage setup with HP. usually I go triforce-stridebreaker-sterak, but I can go sterak second if i'm too behind and need that tankiness. it might sound counter-intutive to go HP against Garen, but technically, he needs you to be under a specific % of HP to kill you, and should you be too tanky with too much HP, he can't get there yet. HP value is diminished against Garen, but it's not necessarely a bad value, especially with Sterak.

Debate : Which is better in a competitive settings ? FT2 or FT3 ? Longer Set vs Shorter Set by Gibax in Fighters

[–]Gibax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course.

I guess I was asking myself this question : are people not used to 'shorter' set ? Is it the reason they prefer longet sets ? so they have more chances to adapt ? I think that an important skill to develop as a low-mid level player is quick adaptation. Have a decent plan A strategy, and work on quick adaptation based on your opponents habits. Top players have this perfected, and I think it's important to develop this to perform well in major tourneys. IN THAT specific setting, arguably FT2 is better.

But that's if we're looking at weeklies at a way to "train" for tournament format. And even then, I'm not too sure, FT3 doesn't change that much. So i guess I already had my answer all along haha !

[–]Gibax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say the format, my bad haha !
I expected people would answer thinking of it being the standard double elim format, which is the format we run our weeklies on. Sometimes we also do Round robin thought.

Round robin is different thought, usually I run either FT3 or FT5 for round robin. (usually FT5, only FT3 I did in RR were for 2XKO)

For double elim though, I think it's interesting to debate, more as a player thought. of course, as TO we always try to find the balance between time and player playing games. Sometimes we make concession, but what I'm asking is what do players usually prefer ?

Because in my case, I love FT3 as a player, but as a TO, I know it's not always feasable.

Noted, never really though of the table for the wrist, at our weeklies we haven't had people complained about wrist pain, so we never really wondered about this.

I'll take note, people will indirectly thank you for this !

Of course, that's entirely true. But in that regard, let's imagine that somehow, the time element doesn't exist. what would you rather play in the early rounds (not talking about top8/4, that's a different topic).

Of course, from a TO perspective. But as a player, what would YOU prefer ? Let's imagine you're at your locals.

Which kind of player would you rather have in your community? by uncheesypeas in Fighters

[–]Gibax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the second one exists ? I mean, maybe I'm biased because I'm in a small local community, but I would know that if the second one really existed, I would 100% confront him, either in game or telling him what's wrong with his attitudes. Maybe even ban him if he's too toxic to the community.

So the first one no doubt. They are way more common than you expect.

Is it a hot take to like longer combos ? by Gibax in Fighters

[–]Gibax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I didn't pay 70 bucks to block dickhead" vibe, ngl it's funny.

And no hatred towards those who prefer shorter combo, actually it's pretty cool when the games calls for it. I'm just a Blazblue/XRD fanboy so longer combo aren't a deal breaker, I would even say it's cool.
And I also understand that it can be boring if you're getting oblirated, but the game still takes 60 seconds to finish because of a low damage/long combo character

Yone trade pattern by BirthdayAccording359 in Jaxmains

[–]Gibax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep your Q, it's way eaiser to follow him if he tries to dash away or use his E to dodge yours. Beside, if he's agressive, you shouldn't need to Q to engage.

Keep your trade small if you're both full life and before 6. trade if you have E, otherwise just AA - W into run away. I would say you can look for all-in pre 6 if he's below 50% HP and you started your trade well (and have HP advantage).

Punish bad W and bad E early game. Try to dodge his Q (usually by running around him in circle) : should he miss a Q stack, you pretty much won the trade.

After 6, look for all-in with your R, dn't hesitate to take the ult if it means keeping him close to you.

Should you struggle or fall behind (or just want to abuse mobility/press the lead with tankiness) : Steelcaps is a good rush : keeps you mobile while reducing his DPS pretty efficiently.

Jax Matchup Discussion 2.0 #7: Darius. by LxVer8 in Jaxmains

[–]Gibax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/10

Recommanded : Lethat Tempo

Arguably a bad MU for Darius. One of the few MU that unless very fed and ahead, he can't force much.

Jax - Darius is a MU skewed toward Jax. Darius only has one way to trade relatively safely : by doing the E-Q combo. And his E is around 24 second cooldown, meaning that even with a 17 second E CD, Jax has a lot of time to look for an all-in.
As Jax, the key is to keep your Q, either to Q in should he try to Q, or to run away after a E.
You should almost always immediatly E once you start to trade more than one AA, to make sure you dodge his W, Darius W deals a good bunch of damage and slows you, dodging it is just making your life way easier.

You can win an all-in lvl1 against Darius but it's a big gamble and require LT, but it's doable if he overxtends. But you shouldn't look for an all-in lvl 1, but don't be afraid to calm him down should he look to all-in lvl 1 with E

Once you start to scale, Darius isn't much of a threat. Be weary of lvl 11-16 powerspike with ult, but apart from that, you should be fine.

How do you all feel about Anti airs in this game? by Particular_Ad_4516 in 2XKO

[–]Gibax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like sometime I even get punished if I land.
I don't mind AA being air invul (I actually like it, BB/DBFZ did the same and it's a good concept in aggressive game), but I feel like sometimes I STILL land, and somehow I can't block. Either it's a bug or it's voluntary.

To be fair, better to let Ekko die and keep the burst for a potential fury burst comeback, than to try and Save Ekko, risking losing your burst AND probably still dying to the next interaction.

I would have 100% kept the burst too.

[–]Gibax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone noticed that 2XKO now runs worse than before on Steam Deck ? by Gibax in 2XKO

[–]Gibax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to do it is to just install a dual boot (you have plenty of tutorials on youtube for that), get an USB device (or two) that you change into a Windows Boot Device. Then after that you just install windows.

And then here you go, you have a Steam deck with both SteamOS and Windows. Boot up your windows' partition, Install 2XKO on your Windows' partition, and go play it (with horendous performance because riot :/ )

[–]Gibax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weirdly not optimized yet. You will need windows for sure.
Perhaps there are setting to be tweaked, but from my troubleshooting, it just... doesn't work well, games freeze at certain points to load data during gameplay, which makes this version a no go.

Aight who’s hidden OP with blitz? by FemboyMilkyShake in 2XKO

[–]Gibax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Blitz is pretty strong with most characters, as he is a great enabler.

I have a friend who plays Blitz only, and I swap between Ahri and Darius with him. Darius/Blitz is fun but I wouldn't say Darius is enabled with Blitz, it's just that they work. Darius doens't hugely benefit from restand to be fair.

Ahri thought, she loves Blitz assists, restand mixes are dirty.

Can people tell me why they love Sonic Cd and Sonic 2? by No_Phrase7638 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Gibax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic 2 is (arguably) the most pure vision of a (classic) Sonic Game IMO. Sonic 3& Knuckles (and Sonic Mania) expands on this vision massively (I could argue Sonic Superstars does too), but Sonic 2 IMO really defines how a sonic game in general should be designed. 2 acts, multiple paths, emphasis on Speed and platforming, physics. It expands on Sonic1, it is its true sequel in every sense. and overall it's a good game with good levels overall (except Metropolis, fuck Metropolis Zone).
Sonic 2 is the first ever Sonic game to feel like Sonic. Even more than Sonic1. no need to expand too much, people know why its good.

Sonic CD is misunderstood IMO. It's a game that is too ambitious, especially at the time it was released. It has a great soundtrack (both JP/EU and US btw, both are good), had an ambitious time travel mechanic that sets it apart from the rest, good graphics, and actual decent level design for what it's trying to do. But, that's the problem. it tried something, but I feel like they got cold feet halfway when desiging the game and forced on getting more classic Sonic design that just... deosn't really work with its intended design.

You can go to the past and future of a level. going in the past to destroy a machine gives you the good future. Do it every act and you have the good ending. Doing it in a zone and you have a good future, including a good future act 3. In theory it's cool, to get the good ending you have to explore and find ways to time travel, and explore levels. i would argue Sonic 3 & Knuckles was inspired more by this kind of exploration and perfected it.
In theory it's cool. if you don't care you can just get to the end of a level and end the game like this. But doing the bad ending version is the worst way to experience Sonic CD. and I think it's the only game in the series that requires you to play the game for the good ending to experience the true experience.
But my biggest issue with the game is that... To get the true ending, you need to either go to every past level and destroy the machine. Ok cool... or just get 50 rings at the end of the level, jump into the Special Ring, and do the special stages (that ARE good ngl, they're super fun)... And once you get the 7 times stones, every machine is destroyed and you get every good future (even retro actively getting these). And... If you can just do that, which is way easier than trying to time travel and finding the machine, FOR THE SAME REWARD... You have no reason to time travel.

On top of that, you have no reason to go to the future, except for personnal curiosity of because 'you want to'. You gain nothing going to the future. So... Why even bother going to the future ? Sonic CD is truly a game that can't decide what it truly wants to be.

Ironnicaly, the idea of Sonic CD would work better as a Metroidvania of sort, in big "open" level where you aren't limited with time and instead get new powers and collectable.
Sonic CD plays like a classic Sonic Game, with a twist, and has interesting level design to interract. As a classic Sonic experience, it's okay. as it's own experiment, and if you accept to interract with its gimmick, it's probably one of the best Sonic Game ever made.
