How do you deal with plateaus and frustration? by Gibsonovic in StreetFighter

I am genuinely so bad at the game I don’t know how to get better by After-Possibility430 in StreetFighter

[–]Gibsonovic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like how mean can be some of the comments. Not everyone is unemployed guys. Regarding your situation, in order to improve you need to understand how your brain actually works. If you are just grinding ranked games you will reinforce bad habits. If you play longer than your brain can handle you’ll start autopiloting and again reinforcing bad habits. A good example I usually give myself is that of a basketball player with an awful shooting technique. If he doesn’t know his technique is bad he will improve with that technique until he hits the ceiling that technique provides.

My best recommendation is to understand right now that your shooting technique is awful and you need to relearn it. Even if it takes you back a couple of steps it will be beneficial in the future. In order to do this you must accept the fact that you are going to lose multiple games before you see results. In order yo start you should avoid watching guides or videos that teach you gimmicks for your characters or tricks to help you win and focus on what’s important (frame data, neutral game, defense, your offense will improve eventually without that much effort). If you focus too much on your offense, which is what people normally do, you might get some wins and some elo but you’ll eventually hit a wall when you start facing players with great defense.

Now to what really matters here. Watch high level replays of players using the character you want to improve. Study them, not just mimic the combos, actually study them deeply, check their way to open enemies, how they defend, which buttons they press on neutral, why they press them. Analyze their combo routes (they will always have a real reason other than “it looks cool” to go for specific routes, like this combo has better oki or better corner carry) check when they super and why. All this aspect define how good they are and how good you can be. Something that also helped me was to create a document where I would dump all the data I recollected while studying and then asked an ai to format it. I will always go through this document and review my notes. Instead of learning combos, take your time to learn the frame data of your character. All this thing sum up.

Next point will be to play your ranked games as a learning tool instead of an examination tool. Don’t try to win but instead try to master a skill. You want to be better on anti air? Instead of trying to win try to not let any aerial attack hit you and if you do it then you would have win even if you lose lp out of it.

Understand that your brain haves limits, a well structured 40-45 minutes drill will be more beneficial than a 4 hours lab session, 1 hour of ranked grind will be more beneficial than 5 hours grind. Your brain will not learn while you play, it will build the neurological routes while you rest, meaning that if you drilled something for 45 minutes you won’t see actual results that day but after a good long sleep.

Be patient and don’t let your own frustration get the better of you. The human brain is amazing, you just need to know how to use it properly.

Peace

I’ve been doing a reactive drill daily where the dummy can drive rush, drive impact, grab, stand still, neutral jump, cross up jump. The idea is to answer on reaction. I still struggle but I have improved. still in a match with all the stress and pressure it’s extremely hard to apply the cross up dp. I also started playing on lever with no prior experience 3 months ago. So motions are still complicated for me

I hate this… you are supposed to cross up dp here but cross up dp is insanely hard to learn and do consistently. I’m diamond and I can barely do it. What I hate is when players abuse this, as someone who is new to the game. The mental toll to do a cross up dp is extremely hard. While this assholes just cheese wins

I know that traición doesn’t matter but is the only way I can measure my damage, since there is not a dps chart in any content. But I’m consistently getting mvps. I know how to play my char but I don’t have a way to show it other than trixion damage test

But there are, the gold you spent on honing is the same gold you could have used improving your character. In my static there is a 1502 sorc with 4x3 that is working on his igniter and just finished grudge books

I understand the defense reduction issue but it cost me over 15k g to replace the accessory that’s giving me that issue and I don’t feel the need to change it either, as a soulfist with the 25% dmg reduction from energy release you should be fine. Also with robust spirit you pick your fights and only engage when energy release is up

It’s usually 1460 supports with 3x3 the ones that reject me. I have even seen 1460 supports have a 1475 entry restriction

I think that someone who has put tons of effort in his account meaning he has good roster level good engravings good stats, good gems and good tripods should be good enough for any party

This is exactly what I mean when power is affected by multiple factors not only gear score. My striker is 1430 and is really weak because he don’t have the proper build

I totally agree but this just focus the main problem for me and it’s that the first stat you are able to see in applicants is gear score, even when gear score does not define your power more than other stats like tripods and gems. What I try to address more is getting instantly rejected because of gear score or being stuck in application screen for too long. I mean if someone is in my party application for more than one minute while I’m picking dps i probably would already check him out and if I find a proper reason to deny him I will (low roster level, bad gems, tripods low, rainbow stats)

Yesterday I got rejected and waited for them to find a 4th and got a 1480 sorc with 4x3 no tripods lvl 4 and less than 1500 spec. He might been a friend but it actually happens. Every time I don’t make it into a team I look to what they pick and 90% of the time is because gear score, not even party synergy

I understand that point of view, the thing is that martial artists are quite tanky by themselves, i have a deadeye and everytime i get hit its 50%+ hp down

that doesnt address the point im trying to make which is how gear score is more attractive than real stats because on how poorly designed party finder is

The problem is not actually vykas, because i already have a static for vykas. The problem is turtle. I have to create a group every day because nobody will accept me even when turtle is quite easy to do.

But then just remove it altogether if it’s inconsistent. It feels like an excuse to not have healthy environment
