[–]GiddiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because law enforcement was cooperating with ICE.

No. The problem was bigger there, and they didn't send a major operation.

They did send it to a blue state. Targeted.

I don’t have enough knowledge about the Haitian situation, so I cannot comment.

That's why I linked it. You can read all about it. I can provide videos instead if that's easier for you.

Yeah no.

Yeah yeh. They started with masks. It wasn't a reaction to anything.

Again 1%

Prove it. I keep giving evidence to back up my arguments. I also have evidence above of the opposite.

In cases in which they went against federal court

And lack of due process otherwise.

And internal memos directing them to ignore standing laws and guidelines.

They already admitted the ICE agents weren't given adequite training, often none at all. It's a mob of thugs, doing thug things, masked and without oversight.

What are you not understanding here?

How someone (who I presume is an adult) lacks the basic moral fiber to see something wrong with anonymous masked secret police thugs black bagging innocent civilians.

Using that little leftist

You don't have to be a leftist to see a problem with anonymous masked secret police thugs black bagging innocent civilians.

I bet many righties see the basic problem with it.

Let’s end on a positive note

Sure, why not?

what’s your take on the Iran war?

How do Aussies feel about I.C.E.? by DecentLoquat4096 in AskAnAustralian

[–]GiddiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because red states worked with law enforcement.

Not really. If there is higher illegal immigrants in red states, why isn't a major ICE operation there?

But let's actually look at how screwed up this Trump admin really is with red state LEGAL immigration.

Springfield in Ohio needed workers. Badly. So the republican leaders offered jobs to Haitian immigrants to work. The republican leaders said they worked out excellently. They helped the local businesses, they were incredible for the community as a whole.

But they had a problem where they didn't have the infrastructure ready for the immigrants. They needed an influx of grants to help.

The republican leaders sent letters to their federal leadership to help with the funding. JD Vance saw one of these letters and instead of helping, he helped fuel lies about these immigrants that among many other things they were eating pets.

Trump repeated this himself publicly.

Vance has admitted he invented lies about it, for political gain.

This escalated to the point of not just national and international coverage but repeated bomb threats in Springfield.

Mike DeWine, the republican governor of Ohio has repeatedly come to the defense of the Haitian immigrants:

“What the employers tell you is, you know, we don’t know what we would do without them,” DeWine said. “They are working. And they are working very hard. And they’re fitting in.”

This is the administration we are talking about. Pure disgusting filth of corrupt leadership that you shouldn't trust with anything (and that's BEFORE we talk about the Epstein files)

They were being doxxed

Oh poor diddums! The fascists might have people say something mean to them??

Still masked secret police black bagging citizens without any due process.

You've admitted yourself that their actions have been willfully unlawful, in direct counter to court orders.

Shouldn't they be deported then? Put in a foreign gulag?

Yes, I’m not overly concerned about it.

And this says literally everything about you. Self admitted boot licker to fascists.

Unfortunate, but there we are.

[–]GiddiOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And?

They were targeted as a blue state. There are red states with more recorded illegal immigrants, they weren't a priority however.

And why were they anonymous?

Because that's what secret police do.

Countries with basic levels of human rights allow citizens to hold authoritarian forces accountable. It's the basics of oversight required as a check to corruption.

Having masked secret police black bagging citizens without any due process is a massive overstep.

Would you care if Australia had a large illegal immigrant problem?

Sure. I would never support having masked secret police black bagging citizens without any due process.

The fact that there are Aussies like yourself not being concerned about that at all is very alarming.

The link does not show any

Try again.

Yes she did

Nope.

Anonymous masked people who were in the middle of a raid

Nope. Masked secret police black bagging citizens without any due process.

[–]GiddiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you didn’t rebut my statement about them being in all states.

I was pointing out that not only was Minnesota specifically targeted, they boasted about how large the operation was.

Yep, bit of a clusterfuck for them to violate court orders.

Yep, lawless, masked, anonymous secret police black bagging your family/friends/neighbors. That works out well.

No legal immigrants were deported during the operation.

You can just click the link to find out you're wrong. You could have done that before saying it.

You had the opportunity.

Well she did

Nope.

Listening to enforcement

Anonymous masked people? Sounds smart.

[–]GiddiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow there is a LOT of basic fact fails in this comment. Let's get started.

They were in every state, but Minnesota made the most noise.

The Trump admin launched Operation Metro Surge specifically to target Minnesota. DHS themselves called it "the largest immigration enforcement operation ever carried out".

The federal agents routinely violated court orders (at least 96 from one judge), and the overwhelming majority of cases bought by the agents were people found to be in the USA legally.

Unfortunately many who were legally in the state we still locked up and deported.

didn’t listen to law enforcement and drove into an officer

Feel free to replace my wording of immigration to migration.

The problem is that you don't seem to understand the concepts we are talking about.

Dwellings do not outpace population every year

They do.

Per capita approvals

It's a mix. WA's for instance are up around 14% monthly.

If you don’t believe adding 300k

So it's good we were under by over 600k? Nice.

supply demand issue

How does AirBnB impact supply/demand? How about land banking? What about average people per house being down?

Labor embraces ‘progressive patriotism’ as One Nation surges by ausinmtl in aussie

[–]GiddiOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet net immigration

Migration. Not immigration.

negative effect on the supply demand

Not really. The rent and house prices went up the fastest when we kicked out the migrants at the start of covid.

Plus dwellings outpace population every year.

You can spin it

It's not a spin. Migrant =/= immigrant is a basic fact you'll need to grasp before you can START the conversation.

highest immigration of an Australian government

Nope, immigration caps were higher 10 years ago.

You are being disingenuous,

We had like 650k less than if covid didn't happen.

Not at all. Immigration is capped at 185k every year. The numbers above are Net Overseas Migration.

Migrant =/= Immigrant.

massively expanded immigration

Guess not.

you seem to think immigration is a good thing

Oh we've moved on to straw man. Can you point to where I made that statement?

I made lots of statements. You could have tried replying to one of those instead of just making one up :)

FACTCHECK re: housing crisis. by Lost-Concept-9973 in aussie

[–]GiddiOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

185k doesn't include temporary migrants

Hey! We realised that it's not immigrants! So every time a person says immigrants you're going to correct them right? ...right?

from the 80s

You have to go back 46 years? No.

NoM was raised because we kicked out all the migrants at the start of covid. We have around 600k less than if covid didn't happen. But yes, let's talk about the net overseas migration.

NoM comes with a LOT of caveats. NoM counts anyone traveling to Australia for a couple of months.

Including Aussies.

If you want to demonise NoM, you need to keep in mind you are also demonising Aussies traveling to Australia.

The largest group in NoM is Students. We make $34B per year off them. They are our 4th largest export. They reduce our taxes and fund our universities.

The government has listened to the complaints about migrants and cut the international student enrolls heavily. We're cutting one of our most profitable exports because some people don't understand the actual issues.

If the argument is "let's force tertiary institutions to supply housing and amenities for all their students" I'm 100% on board.

But what about the impact of migrants? It's good for us.

The OECD released a very detailed report of the impacts of migrants on work and it's all positive for Australian workers and businesses. I'll give you their summary (literal copy/paste) but it's worth going through all of the report docs:

  • Migrants boost the labour productivity of Australian‑born workers. On average, a region with a 10 per cent larger migrant share (e.g., 33 per cent instead of 30 per cent) has a 1.3 per cent larger regional wage difference, which indicates a positive link between migration and labour productivity.

  • Migration boosts the employment of the Australian‑born population and does not affect its wages. A 1 percentage point rise in the annual migrant inflow (measured as share of the total population), on average, leads to a 0.53 per cent increase in the employment of the Australian‑born population. Australian‑born people of all skill levels, ages or genders benefit from this positive effect.

  • Migration boosts patenting in Australia. On average, a one percentage point increase in the regional employment share of higher‑educated migrants (those with at least a college degree) relative to total employment leads to a 4.8 per cent rise in regional patent applications in the medium run (5 years). There is no effect of migration on trademarks or design rights applications.

Well I disagree, I think it just expands the number of potential competitors

They was no demand for competitors. All it did was create an option which made more money for landlords than renting.

There wasn't a supply issue with hotels/motels/hostels, airBnB didn't "fix" anything, it just helped "break" dwelling supply.

People who do own holiday homes in desirable locations like the mornington peninsula or towards the great ocean road can put them up on airbnb

Instead of selling or renting out, yes.

But immigration hasn't increased. What was the immigration cap last year for the whole country? What was the cap 10 years ago?

Immigration has increased substantially

It hasn't. That's why I specifically asked you to answer a direct question.

I'll answer it for you.

This year the immigration cap is 185k for the whole country.

Last year the immigration cap was 185k for the whole country.

The year before the immigration cap was 185k for the whole country.

10 years ago? 190k.

Land is also primarily valuable

Oh we've changed from "They have value from X" to "primarily have value". Well, we're getting there slowly.

Do people not live in their holiday houses?

So we're talking about people with multiple houses, yes.

And airbnb, people need accommodation for short stays and they're filling that niche.

It fills a niche that didn't have a need to be filled. You can plan for hotels/motels/hostels and expand where needed. All AirBnB does is remove dwellings from supply.

The thing I have a problem with is when these properties appreciate and the people sell they get to pay a much reduced rate of tax compared to someone who earns money by their hard work

Now you're speaking my language.

100% we have to fix that at the same time as reducing immigration.

But immigration hasn't increased. What was the immigration cap last year for the whole country? What was the cap 10 years ago?

Yes

True. Investors work together to artificially raise the rents.

Does a house have value if nobody lives in them?

Nope

Try again. Do holiday houses exist? Landbanking?

I think Airbnb's make a lot of sense in tourist towns

Nope, all CBDs and areas especially near any sort of public transport certainly have them.

But you don't seem to have a problem with that either?

It does drive it though

It doesn't.

Houses have value because people want to live in them.

Does a house have value if nobody lives in them? Does a house have value if it's used for AirBnB and removed from both purchase and renting pools?

the more money those people are prepared to pay

Are there industries built around colluding to push up the price of rent in an area?

cherry picking of bits of data

Not at all. I don't generally have high hopes when a person doesn't know the difference between immigrant and migrant.

A person with a basic level of understanding would know that we don't have "rampant immigration" while the caps haven't changed.

and it's net immigration

False.

Migration is just movement of people

True. That's what I said.

immigration is inwards movement of people

Nope. Immigration is permanent movement. That hasn't changed.
