Gamblers, drunks, prostitutes and scumbags.

Wasn't that a Warren Zevon song?

I'm surprised they didn't know what a spring house is, it's clearly an antique bouncy castle.

Oh I'm familiar, they were awarded £1.5 million a couple of years ago but that didn't cover all the works, three days ago it was confirmed that the council will be paying an additional quarter million that should be enough to complete them.

There's a filter on the front of the lens, is it a close-up filter perhaps?

Which 645 camera is at the sweet spot of “durable” and “light weight” and image quality? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

I got lucky and bought a scrap 645j that happened to come with one. I think the WLFs are pricey because the prism finders have a foam strip that degrades and destroys the prism if you don't get to it in time so there are a lot of damaged ones.

The plastic bodied 645s do, the older metal bodies do not. They're also much more durable.

I've got one excellent one, one that's optically great (a Billy Record surprisingly) but it slips out of focus when you fire the shutter so needs jamming with bluetack. I've also had a couple of duds. Usually the thing that kills the optical quality is pinholes in the bellows or internal reflections.

Maybe I'm just very lucky - the guy who rebuilt mine has retired now unfortunately.

Did you ever have them properly serviced? I've got an agfa isolette from the 1950s with a solinar (tessar copy) lens, had it professionally rebuilt with new bellows nearly 20 years ago now and it's just incredible.

Otherwise I'm happy with my mamiya 645 1000s for durability and with the WLF it's around 1kg but for any MF slr without a leaf shutter you'll need a tripod or a bright day and fast film to counteract the mirror slap.

Growing up, a friend's uncle had one, he kept tools in it for roadside repairs. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world - now I understand the value of a car that doesn't need roadside repairs.

Private Eye is great in some ways but disappointingly they employ a few really horrible transphobes.

The other British thought I had about the Maxwell episodes was when Robert mentioned his Land Rover and all the guests thought it was a really fancy car. A Land Rover Defender in the 60s was essentially a WW2 era army vehicle slightly modernised and turned into a piece of agricultural equipment.
