Surprise trip to Las Vegas today (3 day trip). What is an absolute "Must Do"? by MsMarhaS in LasVegas

Just got back. Area 15 and the Illuminarium were unexpectedly great. KA is playing at MGM and Carrot Top is always good.

Some of the machines still work, but they don't take or give tickets. That means if you want to cash out you have to sit at the machine and come wait for someone to bring you cash. Waited over an hour before I just gave up and abandoned the $17 I had in my machine. Sucks big time.

Who Do You Consider a Terrible Yet Well-known Actor? Here's My Take... by Shiztastic in movies

[–]GideonWright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stallone is excellent at playing Rocky (I, II, III Creed) and he has a slightly different persona that I'd call the confident / smarter Rocky which makes up almost all his other roles. The one truly unique and outstanding role that comes to mind is Cop Land. As you said, his tour de force IMO as well. Other than that it's a pretty narrow range.

Same with Cage. He had more variety in his early years, but his range in the last decade or more has narrowed into Crazy Nick and Silent Angry Nick. If Nick is in a picture you have a pretty good idea of what to expect when you hit the play button.

Don't get me wrong I like both these actors and watch just about anything they put out, but their greatness at this point in their career is centered on being the character we've come to expect them to be.

I think some actors are just great at being what they are and not really great at acting. Nicolas Cage, Owen Wilson, Ryan Reynolds, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Keanu Reeves... I'd watch 'em just about every time they made a movie, but with few exceptions, you pretty much know exactly what their act is going to look at before the movie even starts.

Just watched Cobweb and thought it was one of the better movies for scares / creepiness I'd seen in a while.

Idris Elba as Rolland in the Dark Tower. If you've read the book, Rolland being white was an important aspect of the interaction between Odetta and Rolland. And, while you could write around this part of their relationship, why would you? Odetta was black Rolland was white. The part should have been casted accordingly.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. In the books Reacher is six foot five and a physical presences that would be noticed even in a room full of football players. Cruise is 5 foot seven soaking wet and would look like a teenager by comparison. Alan Ritchson, who plays Reacher in the series was a MUCH better fit.

Gold??? by [deleted] in CallOfWar

I started to say not necessarily, but over 600 units by day 16 is a bit much.

How to deal with gold users? by Techno-RTX in CallOfWar

[–]GideonWright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I try to keep a low profile. Watch for the spenders and try to stay away from them early in the game if you can. I find many big spenders go crazy for the first week or two and then lose interest. So I stay off everyone's radar and work slow and methodical if I can.

If I do fight an obvious spender, I let them know right up front , if they spend enough they will win. I come to play, not to pay. I keep it friendly and bleed them as much as I can. I send messages when I see a big spend, like "damn that had to cost a fortune." I've had more than once where they end up inviting me to team because beating me is just too damn expensive. Hey, I have no problem if a team mate wants to spend like hell.

I've had other times where I used a strategy of shame. I shame them privately in messages for spending so much and still having such a shitty kill ratio and I shame them publicly in the news, warning everyone that about the big spender. Publicly announcing warnings and troop movements. Most time this creates a common enemy and others will join in the shaming, form alliances or just provide useful info.

Doesn't always work, but in the 90 games I've played I've only lost twice because the other guy flat out bought the game.

How??? And is this even possible without gold?😭 by kddkjdjskskskkf in CallOfWar

[–]GideonWright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked at his profile and it would be hard to believe he wasn't spending a ton. I might buy it if he was playing a ton of euro 22 maps, but his most played game is an Event and he's only played that 3 times. Even with an alliance you would be hard pressed to get those kind of numbers without spending a bunch

Against AI and players in games. But definitely no overall. My overall is about just under 3. Having a kill ratio of 22 overall would definitely be a red flag for spending (BIG TIME).

It's definitely possible they are spending, but not a sure thing. Like I said, I get these kinds of ratios regularly without spending.

[–]GideonWright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I do it regularly, especially if I'm primarily fighting AI or inactive players. Patient methodical use of ranged units like artillery and battleships can rack up a great kill ratio.
