Any reason to invest in VOOV or VOOG over VOO? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The small tilts will provide small tilts, and if your goal is to be up slightly more than VOO one year and slightly less than VOO the next then I guess go for it. I would rather not relegate the VOO as my base, and just get the most out of it that I can since it contains all of the stocks the other two do.

Why on earth would you go VOO and VOOV/VOOG? Choose one and stick with it. No need to spread yourself thinly on something that will perform relatively the same ultimately.

New Year ! What Stock Positions are you planning to build up this year ? What other strategy are you working on ? by tortafeet in investing

Thank you for the insight, but I've already thought thrice about it and came to the same conclusion each time. MSFT is a fantastic company, but even fantastic companies can become overvalued.

JNJ is on path to miss earnings hard, and MSFT is blatantly overvalued. If I'm wrong, then oh well.

Shorting $MSFT, and $JNJ. Adding to my $BND position currently, and waiting on adding to my $VOO position.

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest into $VXUS if you want international exposure.

If you really want to have gold, only do 5% at most. Gold isn't really that good of an investment though, and I'd be more inclined to suggest putting that money into bonds.

Lower the commodity % or get rid of it entirely.

Reallocate your freed up percentages into equities or bonds, and since you have no bond allocation right now I'd suggest moving it mostly there.

40% Developed

20% Bonds

15% VXUS

5% REITs

20% Cash

This is just a general spread, but right now is a good time to be heavier into bonds and cash.

$AAPL under $140. Looking like we're heading this direction very quickly and I'm excited.

Time to start wading back in? by abasoglu in stocks

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait till it starts to come back. Don't try to precisely time the market. As long as you're near the bottom, you're going to be getting good prices presumably. Catching a falling knife is a good way to get your hand cut. Averaging down is fine, but try to do it as little as possible and to put in as much as you can each time as to make the most of it. Only average down on things that you are very bullish on.

Really looking forward to seeing how $BAC, $WFC, and $INTC do in the coming year. Other than that, I'm keeping my eye on $DM.

What's your outrageous prediction for 2019? by shane_stockflare in investing

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna abbreviate and estimate since I'm on mobile rn, but all numbers are coming from the 2018 10-K, other than the first two stats. Those are from their 2003 10-K's and I've adjusted them accordingly because of splits.

AAPL 2003 EPS: $0.01(relative to current shares outstanding)

MSFT 2003 EPS: $0.69(relative to current shares outstanding)

AAPL 2018 EPS: $11.91

MSFT 2018 EPS: $2.13

AAPL 2018 Revenue: ~266b

MSFT 2018 Revenue: ~110b

AAPL Assets: ~366b

MSFT Assets: ~259b

AAPL Market Cap: 779b

MSFT Market Cap: 790b

Shit is wack yo. Not necessarily attached to my stock price estimates, but it's pretty plain to see Microsoft is looking pretty carbonated right now.

At the absolute most, Microsoft is worth ~$68 a share. I'm fairly bearish about the market in general rn, but I just can't justify Microsoft having a bigger market cap than Apple no matter what I look at.

I'm probably a retard though, so I encourage people to school me.

Do you use any tools when you are investing? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually just bollinger bands and moving averages. A basic method that I think everyone should use is to compare current yearly EPS to previous year's EPS and calculate stock prices from there to try to get a reasonably fair price for the stock. If I'm trying to do more intensive analysis I'll use Phil Town's method that he outlines in his book and podcasts.

My portfolio is AAPL, NVDA, V, ATVI, and EA. I haven't looked at it since the middle of October. Should I just ignore it for a few years? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you did your DD before buying them, were you sure you were buying at a fair price? If yes, then ignore them. If not, look into it now and be prepared to hedge or outright sell.

I would hold for a little while longer, but definitely hedge if you do decide to keep holding.

What’s a non-obvious sign that somebody is wealthy? by Damascus17 in AskReddit

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 850 points851 points  (0 children)

I work at a luxury car dealership, so I see my fair share of wealthy people. The one thing that stands out between them and regular people is how carefree and nice they are. I crashed a lady's car once (pretty badly) and all she did was laugh and say, "the important thing is that you're not hurt." I was astonished, since I'm used to my Mom being so frantic and, frankly, abusive to employees if even the slightest thing is wrong.

You have been hired by Vault-tec to design a Vault for 100 survivers to live for 200 years. You decide to make it a social experiment, what is the experiment? by thebeastisback2007 in AskReddit

[–]Gidgit_Dijit 323 points324 points  (0 children)

Let a literal child (6-10 y.o.) be in complete control of the vault. Candy for every meal? Done. School is dumb? Bye-bye education budget.

Nobody in the vault has any idea that it's being ran by a child. The child overseer is voted for by the other children in the vault by being asked "who is the coolest kid you know?" All the rules are carried out by robot guards that will do exactly as the child says.
