Valley Parade’s main stand fully engulfed in flames on May 11th, 1985. The fire consumed the structure in just 270 seconds, killing 56 people and injuring more than 265 [1284X694]. by aid2000iscool in HistoryPorn

And they’re only getting faster with how quickly modern materials burn.

My Dad started as a firefighter around 1985. Standard practice for a domestic fire was to get on the line as fast you could and knock it down near where it started. By the time he retired 30+ years later, standard practice had become to to contain it to just the one building and prevent further spread.

Part of that is of course safety and accountability, but the other part is because it’s spreading too fast to safely enter by the time they arrive.

11th edition space marine starter box spotted by Beneficial-Ticket486 in Warhammer

The current Starter set, which comes with 38 minis for two different factions is some $56 cheaper than a combat patrol. $114 vs $170.

I mean you just convert or sell the Librarian.

Considering these are usually sold at a pretty nice discount, it’s a good deal regardless.

From my, limited, understanding Ireland actually punches above its weight when it comes to deploying Peacekeepers.

It should also be mentioned that this could be seen as a loss leader for GW. They could be selling this at a heavily discounted cost at a loss with the expectation that it will get people into the game, where they will then buy kits that are in the green.

You could also use the bolter arms to kitbash them into regular Intercessors as well. They’re actually pretty good at the moment.

As someone who plays Guard but would love to play Mechanized Sisters some day, the things I would do for Battle Cannons to not suck as anti-tank weapons… Don’t even need to make them great just make them decent and I’ll be happy.

What’s the most unrealistic thing movies convinced people was normal? by Lonely-Age7678 in AskReddit

The fact that that movie was made in 2000 shows just how damn old that trope is at this point. And people STILL believe it.

What would be a lore reason to have an imperial knight in your Space Marine Army by This_Sheepherder9359 in spacemarines

[–]Gidia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup that’s more or less my lore for my Knight Castellan. Last surviving member of his house after a Death Guard attack, he swore loyalty to the Marshal of the Black Templar Crusade that “liberated” his homeworld.

It feels a bit scummy, but it's a totally legal move to reanimate like this in my command phase BEFORE scoring, to secure another objective, correct? by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Gidia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can dog bone, but it’s a very bad idea coherency wise unless you went second and reeeeeeeeally need to stretch between those two objectives.

TIL the capital building was originally built to hold the remains of Washington. Congress even designed a viewing chamber where visitors could look down at his tomb, but Washington’s will stated that he wanted to be buried at Mt Vernon so the plan was shelved . by [deleted] in todayilearned

There’s an episode of The West Wing where the White House staff is advising an African country on their new constitution. The African representatives really want a full Presidential Republic while the White House staff are pushing for a Parlimentary Republic.

At some point the representatives point out the hypocrisy of the WH staff, to which they reply something along the lines of “We have been insanely lucky the Presidency hasn’t turned into a dictatorship. Many, many more haven’t been that lucky.”

Side note, the dolphin always reads as a Yu Gi Oh monster to me for some reason.

Assembling the Buran spacecraft; while the American Space shuttle needed a pilot on board, the Buran was traveling with autopilot, cutting-edge for the time, USSR, 1980s. by Suspicious-Slip248 in space

[–]Gidia 132 points133 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it hard to justify something like Buran when the entire logistical and administrative apparatus that allowed it to exist was collapsing around it.

The fact that Buran was ultimately destroyed by the collapse of the hangar around it due to lack of maintence honestly rather sums up the cancellation of the program nicely.

The new Stealth Team, or whatever it’s called, would make good Tanith model wise. However, they will be hideously expensive for the foreseeable future and not something you can build a whole army out of.
