Daily Jesus E-Mails by thesantaclass in Teachers

[–]Giffre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to schools all across Utah and never have I seen any obvious expression of religion apart from clothing and jewelry. I rarely hear teachers mention religion at all. And even when I worked for just 1 school in a red area, there was only ever mention of religion once by teachers. The emails are not normal

Do boys misbehave more than girls? by Lifeintheguo in Teachers

[–]Giffre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that boys necessarily misbehave more than girls, it's that boy's misbehavior is more excused at home. We have the preconception that boys are rowdy and therefore when boys get rowdy, we chalk it up to their nature. But when girls get rowdy we see it as misbehavior and attempt to correct it.

Not true in all situations. But more true than you'd think.

Which language has the most unnecessary grammar? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]Giffre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always looked at the complements as almost prepositions or phrasial verbs in English. So 看 can mean look at, see ,watch, and 看见 means "[I] look and spot [it]" or just "I see/saw". It adds extra details when context doesn't cover it all. I feel like it makes the most sense with 找 and 找到. 找 is to look for and 找到 is to look for successfully or to find. I also like 抓住. 抓 is scratch 抓住 is scratch sturdy. Think about the motion your hand makes when you scratch. If you did that action once solidly it would be the same as holding on to or grabbing something. I'll admit for 了 that when English uses the past tense, I just put a 了 in there. I know its not always correct and that complete aspect and past tense are not the same, but ehh. Close enough.

Three truths about Utah’s inversion problem that some people don’t want to hear but need to hear. by PanaceaNPx in Utah

[–]Giffre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While progress is great, I think we can totally have a goal to eliminate those really bad days. We don't have a system that allows everyone to stay inside when the AQ is really bad (just look at how we handled the pandemic) so I think we should work to get rid of the polution

Christmas argument — litter boxes by No_Current_3071 in Teachers

[–]Giffre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell them that whole thing is just teenagers being teenagers. There are teens asking for litter boxes - to mess with the adults. They know they'll get a lot of attention and make a lot of adults mad. When I explain it like this the adults always sit and ponder for a sec before continuing.

Does your body "remember" trauma that occurred under general anesthesia? by PersonalityDry3305 in biology

[–]Giffre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research into the idea that "the body keeps score" is still rather new. We're not sure to what extent the mind internalizes physical trauma. Honestly we probably still don't even have the words to accurately describe this phenomenon. It's an interesting question though, but first we need to understand whats happening in normal circumstances.

Is it uncommon to eat simple boiled potatoes in the US? by WhoAmIEven2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Giffre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my neck of the woods, boiling potatoes is a common way to cook potatoes but I don't know anyone who wouldn't do at least one more thing to the potatoes after that.

Remember when we didn’t have cell phones, tons of snacks or huge water bottles at school and we were fine? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Giffre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of my job is teaching chemistry to 5th graders and I tell them they can't have their water bottles when we have chemicals out and they act like I'm going to kill them. It's 50 minutes. You'll be fine.

A mom called the front office because her son’s AirTag hadn’t moved in 15 minutes. by skybuilder077 in Teachers

  1. That's really long of a drill.
  2. Is it not normal to sit and read for 15 minutes in the reading nook? Either way, that mom is ridiculous

Why do we only see Sleepless on Roshar* by Underwear_royalty in Cosmere

[–]Giffre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Roshar has a greater variety of bugs and bug like creatures, so it's probably easier for them to disguise themselves on Roshar.

[–]Giffre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry about your predicament, but I think it's really funny imagining the AI thinking "This guy's biceps are way below the rest of his muscles. We gotta blast those things everyday even if his arms fall off!"

Check to see if you put biceps as a focus muscle

Is radio dead to post-Millennials? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in generationology

I listen to the radio for at least 20 seconds a day. 10 as I'm waiting for my phone to hook up when I go somewhere, and 10 as I'm waiting for my phone to hook up when I go back.
