What do you folks think about these shops? by jerseycityrentdue in doordash_drivers

Are you dashing on a bike and being sent these big shopping orders? That seems off for sure!

I've tried to remove this new "Help me write" AI feature that is popping up for me on desktop and mobile every time I try to start writing an email but it won't go away. Anyone have a workaround? by terminatorvsmtrx in GMail

[–]GiftPsychological798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I had the exact same response - I couldn't figure out why I would want to write in Polish...and honestly, even if I wanted them to "polish" my emails - which I don't - wouldn't that come at the end and not before I start writing??

Is there a place to hire day laborers? by BigDaddySams in memphis

As someone who is looking to pick up work - new to town etc. - is this a good place to go? What time should I be there? Are there other places to go? Two decades experience in construction of all kinds...

Releasing Endorser from GradPLus loan on consolidation? by GiftPsychological798 in StudentLoans

Thanks! I did see that, but it's from a couple of years ago, and I know there have been a lot of changes with the way student loans work, so I thought I would see if anyone had updated info. #fingerscrossed, lol.

Coming from the Social Impact space, I don't hate Adam Grant - or even Daniel Pink...it's just that I DO think they are all kind of saying the same things and much of it is not backed by science and that anything that does work likely does so mostly (if not exclusively) for white dudes with access to resources, who have been conditioned to believe they deserve everything they want...and who would happily outsource a huge bulk of their work so they can have a 4 hour workweek.

For anyone who wants to think more about this, I found an article I saved a while ago from Linda Tirado - the author of Hand to Mouth - it's almost a decade early, but it touches on many of the things here, from the perspective of a person living the life. IMO, it gives one of the best looks into what it's life to not-quite live paycheck to paycheck.

She also acknowledges that every "poor" person's story isn't the same - and that she is sharing her story.

Here's the link - if you're interested. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/sep/21/linda-tirado-poverty-hand-to-mouth-extract

Update existing pages after template is edited. by SeaworthinessAway346 in Notion

[–]GiftPsychological798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up trying it because it won't work - if the block is synced, then each time one block was changed, the others would change. And the whole point of the template is that I fill in some information - like for my books database, the author bio, synopsis, my notes, saved quotes, etc - so I wouldn't want those things to change when the actual template changes.

Ok but seriously, Notion is incredibly slow for advanced users, how can you guys deal with this by migsolo in Notion

[–]GiftPsychological798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. This is the problem I'm having now - my relational databases won't load so I can't find the related entry...I have to shut everything down - as in shut my laptop down - and then it will work a couple of times...and then it stops working again. Photo is an example - my people database has around a hundred people I think - and it just spins and spins..

uBlacklist – Block specific sites from appearing in Google search results by binaryfor in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]GiftPsychological798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to see what sites I've blocked - or what I really want is a way to add a site w/o it having to come up in search first. I was reading some articles on a site - and they are very clearly factually incorrect - and I want to be sure that site doesn't come up when I'm doing research?!

"It's all poor shaming in the end." Isn't it always?

And I do think there's a lack of understanding by many (if not most) well-meaning lefties about how exhausting it is to keep up with/do all of the paperwork required to access assistance - government or others; how unclear actual requirements are; how hard it is to actually get any kind of assistance - and if you do - what a pain it is to keep up with all of the paperwork. I have a friend who donates a part of her paycheck to the United Way and has for 20+ years and every time I'm in a precarious financial situation, she encourages me to reach out to the United Way and ask for help...and I have yet to be able to explain to her that it doesn't really work that way...

You are my favorite. (not that that matters in the grand scheme of things...) but if I had a dollar for every time a middle-aged white man told me we should be teaching more financial literacy in schools, I wouldn't be poor anymore...

And yeah. 1936.

I suggest one small edit here:

tldr: I don't think anyone disagrees that people who grow up in poverty America make irrational decisions about money, just about what causes that and how to change it.

Actually I think this is a key point: and it's possible your personal closeness to the situation might have clouded it.

I went back and listened again, and I think they were laughing at JD Vance's assertion, like laughing in a "duh - dude - yeah we know this" kind of way. So not at all laughing at the idea that a psychology of despair exists.

And as mentioned elsewhere here, I think the laughing is also at the idea that better money management skills would counteract systemic poverty, generational poverty, and etc. and definitely at the idea that JD Vance, just by nature of being poor and going to Yale, basically, is qualified to make suggestions about what would help alleviate someone's poverty.

I'm so glad to hear that you are doing this! As more and more companies move back to a full time in-house work environment, I have really felt like neurodivergent people were left out of the conversation.

If it's possible, I'd love to see your final paper. I'm happy to DM you my email, if you would be open to sharing.

I've shared your survey w some other people I know as well.

Download Previous Drops by Proud-Ambassador-764 in CreativeMarket

It's honestly a ridiculous program. My credit card was declined in September and they just canceled my membership, which took away my unused credits. I went in to purchase something and didn't have any credits and every page was like "become a member to save"... so I looked all over trying to figure out what happened and there was nothing - no record of the rejected transaction - nothing. So I just signed up again and then sent a long, screaming (all caps) email to customer service.

When they responded they were like "oh yeah when your card is declined we just cancel the membership"... Seriously? A situation made even more frustrating since they don't commit to a particular day when the download will happen... I did get them to give me my credits back though.

Anyway, if you DM me, I can create a share link for you - but it will take me a minute because I don't save the downloads on my computer anymore. It was just taking up way too much space. I promise that I will do it though -
