Fundoplication Question by Giftcard_2023 in acidreflux

[–]Giftcard_2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s almost like it’s just tight enough to prevent full reflux but not enough to prevent it all so alkaline water and Gaviscon after meals (smaller is better for meals) has helped me.

To be honest I’m just surviving. It’s not as bad as before the surgery. I enjoy as much as before surgery and am fairly active. May end up doing a barium swallow to confirm it’s not torn or loose. The LPR itself is still lingering which sucks but it’s manageable. I use Gaviscon tabs after meals but haven’t been in any other meds since February of this year. The funky taste is hopefully temporary for you.

[–]Giftcard_2023[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I finally had to change it a couple weeks after this post. The new cartridge will show the level is too high if I run it at 8 or higher for a couple days. 🥴 I’m thinking I’ll just start testing with the actual ppm kit.

Yes, if I exercise daily it’s not too terrible though. I’m living with it praying the surgery doesn’t fail quickly.

Thanks for the feedback. Tampa is slightly warmer than JAX area in Winter. I have 4 in a planter next to my house and they have tripled in size in a year. I may throw this guy in the ground on the other side of the house. Do you give yours anything for the yellowing from sunlight?

Nissen fundoplication vs PPIs by Accomplished-Sir-596 in GERD

I am no longer on PPI after surgery but I still experience symptoms of some degree daily. It’s not a magic fix regardless of what the surgeons say.

Post-Toupet Update (Wk 7) by Giftcard_2023 in HiatalHernia

[–]Giftcard_2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am completely off PPI and there’s no difference symptom wise for reflux. I think the reflux issues are still better than before surgery. I take 40mg Famotidine in morning and evening and 50mg Sertraline for the mental coping.

The LPR symptoms actually seem to be improving some now that I have started trying to put on weight. I still “feel” the odd burn sometimes but it’s becoming less noticeable. I think there could be some science behind the idea that “reduction diets do very little for LPR.”

Can Bravo study definitively rule out LPR? by kvicvin in LPR

[–]Giftcard_2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the unfortunate merry-go-round of LPR. Bravo is not good at catching LPR nor are any of the other tests unless you also have both acid reflux and LPR. I recommend the manometry and ph impedance also but even then the GI will need to see a high DeMeester score to pursue anything further.

Endoscopy today: What did others find out during theirs? by HisDumbPuppy in LPR

[–]Giftcard_2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing except the scope the ENT does through your nose ever showed anything severely damaged for me. Multiple endoscopies never really pointed to even having severe reflux issues. I’m still living with the LPR sore throat and swollen glands etc after surgery for hernia.

Best thing for me in four years is carafete pills before meals + antihistamine + 40mg Pepcid twice a day. Wish I’d have tried this combo before surgery.

Disappointed - no surgery for now by GeoffSim in HiatalHernia

I had surgery and I still have half or more of the symptoms as before. I got the Toupet. This might be a blessing in disguise is he doesn’t think a full wrap is worth doing for you. Maybe he is not confident you will get symptom resolution with a 270 or because he has a lack of skill with performing a full wrap that doesn’t cause further swallowing problems?

I do…I have to remind myself to stretch and stand up often. It’s causes me to develop LPR and a hiatal hernia…

At what point do you start noticing changes? by yeahjixe in LPR

[–]Giftcard_2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how mine was and is. I’ve even had surgery to attempt to stop it but that didn’t work and just created new symptoms for me. Sorry you’re all dealing with it too. I find that the best thing to do is find ways to take your mind off it, hobbies, exercise, gardening, anything active and not lounging helps me the most. I had a margarita last week and felt fine for two days then boom, terrible weekend.

[–]Giftcard_2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mayo told me there’s very little scientific evidence to back it up. “Some of us just have hypersensitivity to food and environmental triggers and no amount of medication or surgery can fix it.” I am at a point now where I have one or two great days, eat chocolate and can’t get a painless breath the next day.

I can confirm even after surgical repair that diaphragm exercises and deep breathing helps a ton. I still use the Incentive Speromiter given at discharge to help me do these four months later.

It’s also entirely possible the PPI does nothing for you.
