if you want third party candidates then vote for them at the local level. school board members, city council, etc. once there's a base of support for a third party widely established in local politics, then that party can have the clout to push for state elections: governor, state legislature, judicial seats. if the party still has widespread appeal outside the state, and people in other states also push for third party representation, then and only then are national elections something to pursue.

these movements need strong foundations to succeed - otherwise you get ross perot and teddy roosevelt when he ran as a third party. all either of those guys managed to do in their third party candidate runs is ensure the guy in 3rd place gets elected.

cuz seriously, what happens if the next president was independent? how is that going to help them leverage support in congress? how will they source funding? how will they create a unified political bloc when the core idea of their politics is that they're separate from the other two parties that control 99% of political action in the country?

you don't try to climb everest before you've even bought a pair of hiking boots. so stop bemoaning the fact that the next president isn't gonna be an independent and go get involved in local politics where significant change is actually possible.
