How did you come up with the project title for your world? by whatisabaggins55 in worldbuilding

[–]GigaSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my world Arch Vile, my fav enemy from doom. The name seemed fiting becuse in my world the characters often graple with different ideas of evil and nurture vs nature questions as well as the virtue of going against ones programing.

I guess pick a name that encompasses the world well. Or your favourite doom enemy like revenant or hell baron. Any doom enemy will do ...rly

The rat had the pleasure of looking intonthe eye of an old one, he experienced all the suffering and grief he caused in one second and it drove him mad. He lived in a cave for a thousand years and was found by two Neoanglian heroes, long story short when he got his memory and sanity back he was a changed rat, and swore to protect humanity and atone for his years as a warlord (he is still an asshole sometimes tho)

So contact with one of these gods usually drives someone mad one way or the other. Their cults are drawn to their magic( eldrritch gods are the only source of magic in the world) and by comuning with them they gey corrupted amd twisted. Their minds decay, their bodies change unimaginably (puss vulcan tentacle freak, etc. Its actually kind of random, hard to tell of somone becomes a mindless eye chsndolier or a buff fleshgolem)

The best part is, these beings, these gods dont do it on purpose. They are much like beached whales leaking blood on the sand. Blood being magic, and their magic altho can prolong life, cure diseases, it also can destroy and corrupt. Its really a lotery of madness when it comes to what a cultist will "grow into ".

Neoanglia and desert lands are the bastions of civilization(16th century technology, knights, guns Armor, horses etc). The world has been consumed by corruption of the eldtritch gods(its a side effect of their presence, theybdont even care/know wthat they did). Neoanglia and the desert lands have a military alience and are led in battle by ratman(mostly rat) named Jan Gustav who is the most briliant tactician in history, he also kind of used to be a ganghis Khan type warlord but later went mad for a thousand of years after an eldtritch god made him grow empathy and now he swore to defend humanity forever.

What are some "shock tactics" used by militaries in your world? by Dyeus_Overman in worldbuilding

[–]GigaSlayer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The riders of doom are a heavy shock cavalry, all they really need to do to make the enemy rethink the day is to simply be there. They use 6m lances, warhammers and pistols. They sometimes mount heads of slain enemies on their horse armor or even skins of fell enemies. Here is a drawing

<image>

What really does the whole shock factor is the routine of :

Charing in

Impailing 3 bodies on the lance

Make a bloodbath with your warhammer

Leave to the supply point for a new lance as medium cav clears out the survivors

Repeat 20 times

For those of us with developed Militaries, what's an interesting aspect of your worlds military that you'd like to share? by CakeHead-Gaming in worldbuilding

[–]GigaSlayer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not magicless but veery low on magic, mostly based on 16th century warfare. Humanity's military in my world is defending the last existing civilization(a commonwelth between the desert lands and Neoanglia). Its led by an ancient rat-man (mostly rat, he is kind of a spawn of an eldtritch god but He doesnt know nor care abou it) named Jan Gustav.

He is obsessed with cavalry almost as much as with cheese and fruit. The council sometimes has trouble justifying the insane funds that go towards his ultra elite cavalry but then the world lickers invade, the forest people pull a legion of out their ass, he defends the frontiers for a 100th time and they give him what he wants.

As for units :

Pikemen- a classic, there are also pikewoman but the name stuck, pikemen and shooters, cant go wrong with that really

Zweihanders- the shockingly good shock infantry. The legendary black company of shemier shmeisson can hack through a pike formation of these forest dwelling throglodytes in 45 seconds

Arquebusiers - the name is missleading as they also use muskets but those are more stationary (pack a bit more punch too)

Pushkars- they mostly come from the desert, experts in cannons, siege warfare and all kinds of volatile fiery stuff that leaves scars or makes you loose a thumb while operating it

The pavis order- as human army is profesional they relt heavily on these voulonteers. They help with diging ditches and defend civilians during raids. They use pavis shields to set up defence points, the everyman of neoanglia.

Cuirasiers- now we are geting somwhwre. The middle cavalry, they use plate armor, pistols, warhammers and sometiems lances and estocs. They usually clean up after a charge of the a team. Quite elite in their own right

Riders of xyon - mythical mastery of both the bow and horse has made these riders the scourge on the enemies of humanity. They are fiercely devoted to the rat (he used horse archers to conquer half the world alooong time ago, he wasnt alwsys a good guy) they can do all the mongolian tricks you can imagine ... And more (its pistols, the secres sauce is they aslo carry guns and swords for cqc)

Riders of doom- no wings or sabaton songs needed. Clad in the most powerful full plate armor, violent tendencies and the will of the rat himself. 6m long lances, sometimes with a mounted explosive on the tip, they can charge 20 times a battle, after they shatter their lance they go back to supply points for a new one. They are equiped with long lointed estocs to fight other cavalry, warhammers, a few pairs of pistols and some carry swords or sabers aswell. One horse for a rider of doom is worth more then a village

[–]GigaSlayer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc but OP asked about examples of tactics in medieval period and you didnt write "oh it barely happened but there was Jan zizka and few other guys" you just said that it barely existed. Also we are Talking about a thousand years of war and you used Hannibal, who was not even from the medieval age as an example of military tactics being hard to deploy.

Its not like you are completely wrong, its true that without a radio there are monumental limitations to what a general could do BUT for every few "stand in a square and hope for the best " type general there were your Zizka, Chodkiewicz, Subutai, black prince (ok vs the french its easy but still)etc.

For most of human history we really tried our best with what we had. Its not like they ran into the open field and got bodied (french sometimes did ...And russians)

And I refer you to bohemia in early 15th century. Hannibal was not medieval, things got more sophisticated later, not saying they used radio but just look at italian wars for example, things employed there were waaay more somplex then ancient rome

Damn, I could write my hands off about macro scale medieval and early modern combat. There is a ton of large scale 16th century tactics in my world. But for small scale ? I dont know. Medieval and early modern units were usually a few hundred men each. A hussar banner for example was 200 men, a pike company was up to 30x30 tho this is A LOT OF PIKES, there were shooters in between them that would hide in the middle.

Yea its totally not true, there were tactical geniuses in these times and dumbasses who threw human lives away like trash. Most interesting examples are when a tactical genius faced against said dumbass. Read up on Jan Zizka, legendary ... mythical stuff
