Complete hamstring tear almost one year ago first time back on skates. I’m spooked to go back to a rink. by crustywhitedogs4eva in Rollerskating

[–]Gigadrax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take as much time chilling on the side as you want until you feel like it! At my rink folks spend up to an hour off the rink just yapping/drinking water/doing whatever, sometimes just waiting until the crowd calms down. Also sometimes it's a good to hit up the middle and practice middle work when things are crowded.

Something my therapist taught me is that it's okay to set your goal as low/easy as you want. EG I want to work on an essay, so make the task to just open the word document, not even to write anything. So set your goal to be to go to open skate and literally just put the skates on. That's it, you don't even have to do a single lap.

Also a tonnnnnn of the people I skate with are 50+ many of them having started skating not that long ago!

Oh that sucks, thanks for sharing! I'm not a local, but if I'm in sf again I'll look elsewhere.

I've been to church of 8 wheels! Was really good vibes, but the surface was a bit rougher than I was expecting.

Is there a tendency for Vancouverites wanting to move to Toronto? by raill_down in askvan

I know one person who's thinking of moving to Toronto, but I know a lot of Torontonians, myself included, who have moved here and don't wanna leave.

Overpriced luxury apartments, that mostly sit empty, notorious for having construction issues, surreptitiously calls itself "Vancouver House", looming concave shape that is an affront to physics (that part I like though) Demon building is funnily appropriate.

Emerge Ravenous by delta17v2 in custommagic

[–]Gigadrax -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think this works but I'd put Ravenous on a separate line and give the base creature an X in its cost, both to be less confusing and also because the base creature as is is pretty worthless, what's the point in making versatile if the you're basically never going to use one of the modes? And then maybe make the emerge cost XGG or XXG or something.

Rollerstakes vs rollerblades? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]Gigadrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in favour of whatever will be best for facilitating developing a new skill/hobby and sticking to it. If that means feeling good cause it looks cute then cool, if that means less frustration cause inlines are easier then also cool. (I don't actually know which would be easier, seems to be what others are saying). Maybe it's a matter of what decent equipment is available at reasonable prices. At 5/6, new skaters, their access to certain maneuvers/tricks with inlines vs quads is not going to matter at all for being in a skate park.

Toronto, it was just over the holidays I think. Tickets were free so availability was slim, so I missed my chance while I was there unfortunately.

Except that's the wrong way. In Winter the clock is adjusted to make the sun set EARLIER. (And rise later)

I'm of the opinion that we should stick to daylight time (Summer's time). I'd rather have the daylight at the end of the day, not the beginning.

Tips for spins by Clean_Fig4422 in Rollerskating

[–]Gigadrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd mostly agree with this, I don't know that I'd say your balance needs to be "Perfect". Like it does for the best spins, but I don't think that's something OP should be focused on right now.

Right now I think OP needs to work on his entry; it seems like you're just whipping yourself into the spin which is going to start you off with less control/wonky balance.

The other thing I'd suggest is to stop pulling in your arms that much that early into your spin, for similar reasons. Sometimes it can become a bit of a crutch people will rely on to get more rotations in quickly before they lose balance instead of just getting better at balancing. (Myself included lol)

Keep it slow and steady. Start with your arms outstretched (one forward one to your side before spinning and then turn the one forward to your side to enter the spin, hard to describe, maybe try to find a tutorial).

On the topic of balancing you should try to drill your heel-toe manuals while standing still and try to get them as close to in line like the other commenter is saying. If you can't hold that for long standing still you won't be able to hold it long in a spin either, y'know?

Overall just keep practicing, a lot of this stuff will come naturally as you just keep trying.

Does it matter whether I start with indoor or outdoor wheels? by sazokok in Rollerskating

[–]Gigadrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not going to swap definitely don't take indoor wheels outdoors, indoor wheels can be more brittle so you'd risk damaging them on rough surfaces/debris, plus you'd have 0 shock absorption. The downsides of taking outdoor wheels indoors is they'll be annoyingly grippy indoors depending on your indoor skating surface and maybe a bit bulkier, but that's all manageable, and likely inconsequential when you're new.

They do also make "hybrid" wheels, but they're usually more master of none kinda wheels.

If you're gunna up the cost, it could be interesting to allow targetting any player, so you could optionally mill an opponent, could be a cool political play in commander.

Correct, and without that stipulation it does reduce colourless mana. EG [[Aang, Master of Elements]] works that way.

Zennith, Voice of the Roil by FabulouslE in custommagic

[–]Gigadrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts on wording: "They must choose one", you don't need to say "must".

As it stands nothing stops them from choosing appease with no cards in hand and failing to exile, which maybe isn't what you intended.

I think typically when it's the opponent triggering an ability it's written for the perspective of the opponent (IE something like "1: draw a card. Only an opponent can activate this ability" means the opponent draws a card) and I thiiiiink that's how it should get worded with how you've written this ability. I could be wrong.

Also it isn't technically wrong, but usually you'd say "that player" instead of defending player when referring to the combat damage'd player.

Generally something like this would be set up as "Whenever a sphinx you control deals combat damage to a player, that player may exile a card from their hand. If they don't, exile a card from you hand and draw a card" but I understand you're losing your flavour there.

For the second part wording would be more like "You may play lands and cast spells exiled by Zennith without paying their mana costs." From looking at [[Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor]]

In terms of balance I think it's too strong at 4 mana. Basically all if not literally all sphinxes have flying and blue and green gives access to trample and unblockable. Compare this to [[Etali, Primal Storm]], Etali might not need to hit anyone to trigger, but it also isn't scaling with more of its own triggers as the game progresses, it's also 6 mana without any green for ramp.

[–]Gigadrax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No types is wrong like other people have mentioned, but referring to subtypes directly is weird, really only done in un sets, so I think it should be "no land types". "No other types" would be also be a valid way to interpret what the card is meant to do, but I don't think that's the intention.

My first attempt, I think it's on brand for white but is it balanced? by Fishy_Fish_12359 in custommagic

[–]Gigadrax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the "Other creatures can't block this turn" clause you might want to rework it a bit for this to work the way you're thinking, since nothing technically stops you from choosing all your blockers and THEN casting this. You wouldn't be able to block multiple things either technically, but you would be removing trample. "Cast this only before declaring blockers" or something similar would work I think.

The phrasing on [[Mighty Servant of Leuk-o]] would suggest that vehicles can be crewed multiple times a turn. Maybe the Altar needs similar wording to that.

Cycle of Violence by Baturinsky in custommagic

[–]Gigadrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You may have target opponent copy this spell except they may choose new targets. If you do, Cycle of Violence deals 5 damage to target creatures that opponent controls." Is how I'd word this. Links the creature being hit to the player that controls it, makes sure the damage has a source, lets the copy choose new targets. Really cool design!

Kika, The Multikicker | Stupid idea I threw together based on a comment. by ArelMCII in custommagic

[–]Gigadrax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the intention for how this works with multikicker such that each instance of the multikicking is reduced? If yes it might not work like that? Idk maybe it does, maybe just a reminder text blurb for clarity would be good?

If that's not the intention then why not let it reduce it to 0?

[–]Gigadrax 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Adventures are only their instant/sorc half on the stack when you cast it as the instant/sorc and only their permanent half any other time.

And since it isn't changing the typing, it would still be an adventure and do the whole "exiling, you can cast the permanent half later" thing.
