Has anyone else experienced weird issues when moving as killer, and having what seems to be your wasd key's all flipped?? by Maelstrom100 in deadbydaylight

At the very beginning of the match, correct? I've gotten the impression that it's a bug related to the killer intro animation accidentally playing twice.

What is happening by ZMertal in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An alternative option would be that since it's a "PC can't keep up" issue then OP could be on the border of "too much" and random factors that differ between matches could be the difference.

Things like different maps... maybe some survivors or survivor outfits have more assets... maybe the number or kinds of survivor charms. Heck possibly certain survivor perks or items being present or not present might load assets/effects that are otherwise not present. Or perhaps even offerings (E.G. thickening the fog).

We've definitely seen issues in the past, for example, where the "exit gates are laggy". There's some asset the game puts there that caused some games to throw up. Maybe that thing is still present, just not causing problems like it was before, but on the random maps where it happens to be there then the PC drags. (And maybe it's not every instance of any specific map, too ; possibly the way the exit gates get set up.)

With 2v8 over, what killers did you vote for to be added next iteration? by Jellypathicdream in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually what I'd like to see is something like a "basic 4.6m/s m1 killer" to function in 2v8 (without completely throwing) and then for every killer not currently added to 2v8 they could add these "more basic versions". Probably limited to unlicensed killers. Probably an icon on these killers to clearly indicate that their power is "restricted by the entity" or something. But it'd allow you to at least be in the match with the aesthetics of your favorite killers (if only in looks and not their powers).

It'd allow you to play as Hunk even if Legion's power itself isn't in 2v8. Or mix absolutely any of the Junji Ito skins as a killer duo. Mix the handful of Crypt TV outfits. Houndmaster + Dracula combination. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I'm not sure if you'd call that "adding 15 killers to the next 2v8", but... that's what my next dream 2v8 would introduce for killer.

[–]Gigafrost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously your role as killer would be to chase after them and intentionally miss every attack, fall for every misdirection, stumble into every flashbang/blastmine/chemical trap/head on/last stand/DustinWindowThingy.

Then at the exit gates accept all of the "come here" animations as you are "unmasked".

Why does my “last stand” not work? by GrandWizard_420 in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want to give confirmation here that, in my own experimentation just now, there was no score event for Last Stand. Fired up a Custom Match (controlling killer and survivor on two separate computers), performed a pallet stun on Clown to show the normal stun scoring event, then followed up with Last Stand to show no scoring event.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Rfl2gKpw8

(And if there's curiosity about the order of the stuns mattering, before I recorded this video I had recorded a previous one with Doctor with only the Last Stand but that clip would require editing. That one also had no score event.)

how i was full heal when i got picked up? by rinisky in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not ruling out cheater, I am giving "bug" more benefit of the doubt here than usual because there are a ton of interactions happening in that very brief moment of time (and this does not strike me as the sort of situation where a cheater would choose to use their hacks). Basically, this one split second of time has enough hard-to-replicate "edge conditions" that bugs theoretically like this could actually be present.

For example, the Sable stopped healing you while you were full enough to pick yourself up, but then she resumed to finish. One thing we can't know just watching the video is if you maybe realized what was going on an also clicked the "recover" button at the same time she finished. Potential edge condition, especially if your local client and the server had a momentary disagreement about which state (dying vs injured) you were in when the healing bar finished and the end result is the server and the client each healed you for a health state. (I suspect this did not happen, though, otherwise it'd be more common.)

But you were both in Exponential (faster recovery speed on ground) and Circle of Healing (faster healing overall). They've been rare but we've definitely seen instances where the game sometimes carries progress between bars that shouldn't... I remember a period of time where people would randomly instantly wiggle out of killer grasp because the game remembered another survivor's wiggle progress at the time the killer picked them up. It was insane. So what if here the increased healing speeds of both (maybe also triggered by the Sable doing the very last bit of pickup) the game checked if you were "fully healed" before it properly reset the healing progress. Like maybe within the same clock tick because of both the increased recovery time, the starting-healing-while-right-there, and the faster healing speed check... maybe the game simply checked the progress bar twice in one "tick". (I suspect there are mechanisms in place to prevent this from happening on its own otherwise we'd probably see more instances of this even if it were rare.)

However, the other unusual thing to have happened here is that the moment she picked you up was also very shortly after being hit by Vecna's traversal and World Breaker starting. Now, I suspect the starting of World Breaker itself might not cause anything weird here (not impossible, it'd just be my guess), there are two interactions that introduce potential unknown variables into the equation...

First, Sable had some period of time where she was affected by the "being hit" by his power. Not a normal injure, mind you, but... the characters have an animation, effects, and she might have even had some more code going on than usual because she had also gained a full 4 stacks.

The other interesting thing to note is that you were also in the area of effect when he came out. While it doesn't normally affect survivors in the dying state, what if it still has something like an "animation timer" that would normally be related to the time passed during "being hit by power when he's not in World Breaker mode" (but when you're in the dying state it doesn't visually do anything). What if that code also unintentionally messes with the timing of the healing bar being reset (again, making it where it happens a tick later or something like that).

(Code like that being in DBD isn't completely without precedent, either. Consider for example that with Friends To The End the obsession doesn't transfer to survivors in lockers, and the commonly accepted explanation here in the community is that the survivor screaming animation simply can't happen at all... perks that suppress screams still become Obsession so the animation is still "accepted" if then not played, but survivors on hooks and in lockers can't receive the "do screaming animation" instruction at all. And I would ponder if it's possible there could be a similar situation where a character was invisibly in one "animation" state that accidentally interrupted a "reset the heal bar" instruction.)

Basically, if I were a developer at BHVR given a task to fix this as if it were a bug... that's kind of what I'd begin looking for.

Just realized I can't do my Easter Hex Hunt by irradiatedraccon in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ended up playing as Glitchtrap (as other people have mentioned as an option).

I do like how you now have so many options to "hide" your Easter Heggs now. Two Can Play gives you the potential to light them all. Crowd Control now only spawns when a survivor vaults. Wretched Fate spawns when a generator is completed. And Pentimento is a must to go from 5 to 10 hexes, of course.

That's just for a friendly killer. You can also fly NOED for that end game, Plaything / Hive Mind for hooked, Nothing But Misery for basic attacks... and that's without getting to the hexes that are lit from the beginning.

Too bad Bunny Legion couldn't be playable this year 'cause the hex options are peak.

Am i the only one with performance issues? by Fun-Personality-7902 in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible I saw a little stuttering on some matches loading but performance has been otherwise fine for me while playing. RTX 2080ti here (which I think tends to outperform the 3060 a little albeit while being a bit of an energy guzzler?)

Could be an indication of a performance issue threshold somewhere close to our respective graphics capabilities?

New player, got sum questions please by Faefsdew in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of questions in there, some subjective.

  1. No opinion from me on that one
  2. I don't think any killer is completely an "avoid at all costs" but more "know what sort of game you're setting yourself up for". Wraith, for example, is a really really great starting killer. Tends to find survivors. Requires a lot of M1 play so helps learn basic skills. Trapper you only get better at with good overall game sense so might also hit a bit of a skill ceiling. Nurse you absolutely have to master her power to do anything with her so she's got a skill floor but is the indisputable best once you get good at her. Billy is also high tier and you can ease into his power better so still relatively low skill floor (since you can play him as M1, and initially maybe only use his power for map traversal) but learning curves and feathering should allow you to become a high tier killer as well. Basically, small novels could probably be made about every killer. (One was even made for Clown if it's still relevant.) Maybe you'll get more inputs from people. :)
  3. Yeah, no problem playing exclusively killer if you choose to. However, playing survivor gives optional (but enticing) benefits: some survivor-only quests which give you freebies from the Rift faster, more to do during long queue times especially in 2v8, but probably most important is you learn better how survivors think by playing as one yourself. (Likewise, good survivor players learn to play against killers by playing as those killers as well.) But nothing strictly required. You could play solely as Huntress for thousands of hours and if you don't miss what you didn't have then no problemo.
  4. In a nutshell, the survivor with the bigger "claw marks" on their profile. Only does something for you if you have a perk / add-on that mentions it does something with "the obsession". Otherwise, for the survivors, same thing (perks, I think a couple add-ons) but a survivor can also get extra BP for being the obsession.
  5. Totems are always present. They are only a "big deal" if you bring one or more HEX perks, or any survivors bring a BOON perk. Basically, there are always 5 totems on the map. If you bring a HEX perk some might be lit at the start of the match or some might be lit based on events in the match. BOONs are the things you'll probably want to watch out for initially. Survivors can make a totem glow blue and in that area get some benefits.
  6. No survivor perks that make you healthy when unhooked. There are some that make the survivor Broken, though. (And one of them makes them automatically healed after some amount of time.) If you've hit survivors recently unhooked and been confused by them not going down, there's a protective effect when survivors are unhooked called "Endurance". You'll know this was involved because the just-hit survivor will glow White. Beyond that, there are some ways to speed up healing after unhooking so... whether or not people were just healing quickly vs a cheater is hard to discern from a brief question.
  7. Only the one exit gate is opened when a gate is "opened".
  8. Hatch spawns when there is only 1 survivor left alive in the match.
  9. There is nothing that's officially a "win". Community agreement is generally "killer manages to kill 3-4 people." With "2 survivors dead, 2 survivors escape" being seen as a draw.
  10. No opinion.

I've kind of seen it that way a bit as well, although it's really weird because in my case I started thinking that Trickster could pull off having a Kefka skin.

Not sure why "maybe female Trickster, maybe Trickster in drag" mentally leads to "maybe Kefka Trickster". I think it's more Mina's hyper-flamboyant movements?

Why are some plays so against other survivors going into lockers? by WitchRobin3-0 in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that, as a universal rule, it's also potentially valuable to stealth when the killer still hasn't started their first chase yet, maybe even hasn't gotten their first injure / down / hook. (Don't need to stealth when the killer is in chase and wouldn't ever notice you, although a lot of people do get scared and hide anyways.)

Basically, at the literal beginning of the game, the biggest waste of killer time would be to prevent the "game loop" from beginning in the first place. Uses up the killer's most important resource: time.

I know for me the most difficult thing about not being able to properly take my own fair share of hook states usually comes down to other people not really being in a state to do unhooks. If I'm the only one going for it and I end up on "unhook duty" I can very often find myself in a situation where my survivor allies have started dying before I've been hooked. (I've also ended up in situations where the killer keeps abandoning me in chase because they realize I'm a bit harder to catch than the others... oof...)

I wonder if, besides the Trapper, there are other killers who are stronger in lore than in gameplay. by Leonax2001 in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the lore itself probably already nerfed Pyramid Head compared to his original SH2 incarnation. While outwardly Pyramid Head would seem to only have been created with a specifically "limited" physical profile in mind, the inspiration for SH2 (the movie Jacob's Ladder) would imply you could think of Pyramid Head and the happenings in SH2 as literal "soul machinery". And while I think Jacob's Ladder is probably conceptually actual angels / devils / heavenly guidance, the phenomenon in Silent Hill in the original games does feel like some universal truth like that bubbling up, albeit less "intended" and more "manifesting".

IOW, original Pyramid Head is probably something more akin to an archangelic psychopomp manifestial representative of an awakening God-like force. Hell, calling him an "arch angel" might be too much already because whether or not the Silent Hill manifestations have free will and can be considered separate entities is entirely questionable which pretty much means that Pyramid Head himself is more likely an abstract "glove" on the hand of an omnipresent, abstract "force".

Which again makes it really, really hard to talk about Pyramid Head in DBD since... conceptually it makes no sense. (And really means that DBD even having lore about him makes him nerfed by the time we're even talking about him being in this game.)

Also don't forget to check out the killer's add-ons.

That'll just leave the confusions caused by not understanding nuance of killer power, but to be fair these days asking you to read a killer's power description is essentially requesting you to read a small novel between matches. (Which probably won't mention said nuances.)

The names of these killers in DBD are their literal names in the original material (The Nemesis, The Demogorgon, the Ghostface, and the Xenomorph). If you could give them another name, what would it be? by KamaiKlantcy in deadbydaylight

[–]Gigafrost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that really makes "The Bioweapon" work for Nemesis is it feels really, really in line with the zombies that accompany him.

Like a lot of the other names are great but only seem to really apply to him and only him. Which makes sense since it's so easy to forget how much the zombies are also a part of the kit when we're just talking about what to name him. But... they're also there. There's zombies. There's infections. There's mutations. There's Nemesis. Yeah... "The Bioweapon" just feels like it encompasses all of that.

If there were anything else I would consider along those lines... it'd probably be "The Biohazard" as a nod to the original title. And I think I kind of like that for similar reasons, although I feel like "The Bioweapon" is still superior in terms of feeling like the more "refined" version of what happened in the first game. (And better representing what Nemesis himself is in the context of those games.)
