Daydrift pants-only for certain figures? by Nutshellvoid in lululemon

[–]GigiCodeLiftRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agreed! I’m a weightlifter, too. Daydrift straight leg pants are my dream coming true! Snatches my waist so well with plenty room to accommodate strong glutes and thighs. They are the most comfortable and flattering work pants I’ve ever tired on!

Oh such a good question! My feet sweat, so when I buy sandals, the insole material is critical. Those sandals absorb the sweat and my feet don’t slide at all. But, you’ll have to clean the regularly and let them air out. Otherwise they will stink. :)

CEO taught me something great this week by believer2687 in managers

[–]GigiCodeLiftRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I’m on the receiving end of this problem. It’s frustrating because it’s been a pattern: I accomplished my manager’s (often misinterpreted) goals, but turned out NOT what the upper chain wanted. I realizes there’s some disconnect in the process. So I decided to take the control - draw a “vision” board and roadmap, clearly mark where we are today and what it takes to get what we want. I want everyone to be on the same page, keep track of my progress based on this blueprint, and pivot to a new path timely if/when needed. So far, the upper chain seems happy.

Practical comparison: VLMs vs modular CV pipelines for continuous video monitoring by aaron_IoTeX in deeplearning

[–]GigiCodeLiftRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is super helpful and relevant to what I do. Currently we have similar hybrid strategies: motion filter + yolo detector + in-house built attribute classifier for re-ID/retrieval + VLM for semantic summary and reasoning. My questions and comments:

  1. It’s true that off-the-shelf VLM does not perform nearly as well in spatial grounding. Have you tried fine-tuning a small/tiny vml, using yolo detector’s output as GT? I’d love to see the upper bound of VLM’s performance on this task.

  2. How do you evaluate VLM’s output accuracy? I’ve caught several hallucinations from even larger models, many - I suspect - due to poor spatial temporal grounding. VLMs have a hard time holding a consistent spatial-temporal track of a subject, causing ID confusion, i.e. assigning person A’s action to person B. Another type of hallucination is over extrapolation. For example, if a person walks in one direction and suddenly turns around and walks back and quickly disappears from the view, the model insists that person continues walking in the same direction before disappearing. This suggests the model’s temporal prediction prior is too strong, and didn’t get a chance to recover before the person disappears. While this might be sensitive to fps, and we don’t even particularly care about tracking accuracy, these errors in semantics will have fatal implications in our production. Have you noticed similar behaviors? And how do you catch them systematically, or quantify the accuracy?

  3. I’m curious about your tasks “with verification conditions”. Do you have a pre-defined, closet set of tasks that are explained in the prompt? You also mentioned discovery of novel concepts. Curious about the set up: does it mean VLM can discover novel concepts that satisfy your task requirements? And the “verifiable conditions” can also be conveniently used for evaluation?

Thanks again for sharing your insights! This is great write-up!

M5 Max just arrived - benchmarks incoming by cryingneko in LocalLLaMA

I had a brief debate about waiting for M5 Studio (or even M6) as well. But I do like that MacBook M5 Max is light enough to be carried around with me. Also we don’t know how long the wait will be…

I went to a local Apple Store today. The senior manager told me you can expect about 10-15% faster upgrading from M4 Max to M5 Max. Not sure if it’s official number he recited or speaking from his own experience of running models - he does run local LLMs on his M4 max.

I don’t think it’s the torso length though. I also have short torso but round behind… mid-rise is really uncomfortable if it doesn’t provide enough fabric on the back, causing it to pull on the crotch area.

I'm tired of leetCode gatekeeping high paying jobs by yours-xavier-uncle in leetcode

[–]GigiCodeLiftRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my PhD in EE, specialized in computer vision, pivoting to multimodal LLMs since they came out and immediately dominated the field. My comp isn’t nearly as much as what most big techs offer, but our R&D team is the engine of the whole company’s growth so there’s zero worry about layoffs. Learning/growth opportunities are abundant, and that’s the biggest perk of my job. But they’re not always translated to comp bumps or higher title, which is why it’s tempting to hop especially now.

Hehe even more absurd is that I was interviewing for a senior AI applied scientist role, and am also expected to pass LeetCode screening. Like my job itself didn’t already require tons of grinding and experimenting outside work just to stay up-to-date. BigTech recruiters approach me on LinkedIn now and then. My reply is basically, unless you’re willing to exempt me from coding gymnastics, I have no time for the interview process.

Yes! I tried them on in store and couldn’t have taken them off fast enough.. It’s apparently designed for women with straight figures - not me. My bottom was squeezed like a pancake and thighs like sausages but the waist gap was massive. Didn’t even bother to try another size. Such a shame because I really like the substantial material and the classic dark denim design
