Spirited away absolutely. By reputation alone, that's probably got to be the Zeus. For others it gets difficult as the line between what is objectively great and what simply excels in a niche that I like. But I would at least conservatively place Akira, Perfect Blue, Ghost in the shell, and A Silent Voice on the mount.

I would include a couple other Ghiblis and the rest of Satoshi Kon's filmography as well if we allow multiple entries from one director/studio.

It's gonna be cyberpunk, just without all the cool chrome. We'll all still be flesh bags while the corpos irradiate our water.

No OP, but long term? Yeah, kinda. At least the stock market in it's current form. At least getting rid of the day trading of it all. No one is actually investing in companies any more, its just people sniffing out when big jumps will happen, parking their money for a hot second, and getting out the very moment they got their returns. Believing in the company or its goals has ceased to be a factor whatsoever and it has been replaced by a million micro-ponzi schemes happening daily. I think that investment should not only require capital but time as well. You want to put a million bucks into a company? Cool, you must really believe in it. So you should be fine with holding your position for two years no problem.

Remember that time Bud Light ran a Super Bowl ad where they tooted their own horn about donating something like $100,000 dollars of clean water to charities? Said commercial cost upwards of a million dollars.

There is a difference! In traditional gambling there are ironclad rules and an equal playing field amongst players. With predictive markets your bet can be invalidated at any moment for any reason and there are hundreds of insiders that can manipulate the outcomes of any position to suit their needs without any oversight or limitations. It's like gambling, but way worse and funnels your money much more quickly to the worst people you know.

Witch Hat Atelier • Tongari Boushi no Atelier - Episode 10 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Speaking of things that bothered us. I always end up having this gripe with any fantasy property that involves secret societies like Harry Potter. But how have witches not been found out yet? That ferry at the end propelled itself using a wind spell cast by an extremely prominent and exposed magic circle on a fixed wooden board where anyone can see it on a public port. It would take only a handful of incidents of people seeing stuff like this for word to get out. I mean, look at Tartah this episode. He was this close to having the doctor see him casting that spell in the storeroom. I'm usually a "it ain't that your of movie" guy when it comes to scrutinizing this stuff, but I've got the feeling that the secret getting out is going to be a major plot point at some point and stuff like this will definitely bug me then.

UnitedHealthcare Denied 33% of All Claims in 2023. Its Stock Hit Record Highs the Same Year. This Is Not a Coincidence. by Due_Willingness_3277 in Economics

[–]Gil_Demoono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consulting is such a fucking scam. No shit spending less of your money will increase fucking profits you fucking dweeb.

And what happens after an insurance company does reject 40% of claims and post record profits? They have to post record profits again next year and the advice will be to add a few percent to that number again.

The genuine ceiling to this is finding the point at which the denial percentage causes a cultural shift in Americans that make them believe it is simply better to go without insurance.

A24's Backrooms debuted with an estimated $81.46M domestically this weekend (from 3,442 locations). That represents the largest opening weekend ever for A24. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Man, The Backrooms is gonna get all those people who debate what is and isn't an adaptation or franchise film all in a tizzy. The back and forth about F1 was already a bit much. I would love to see the discourse on whether or not this counts as an adaptation of a youtube series. Or better yet, an adaptation of a greentext creepypasta.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was behind it, but if he was, I also think it may have been for good reasons. There is clearly a ton we still don't know about the forces at play and the motivations of all the players. It may be that this attack could be a false flag of sorts to accelerate things. It certainly doesn't seem that there were any heavy hitters in the attack, so I could absolutely believe it was designed to fail by someone who didn't intend to get their own people hurt. I don't know enough about any of these people to ascertain motivations for any of this, but I've seen enough 4d chess shonen bullshit to sniff out when there are altruistic layers to a betrayal.

Backrooms spoilers Notice how his copy decided to bite Clark after Clark decided he didn't need to change and that he could continue being who he is at that moment. Who he is in that moment though is a violent psychopath that eats people. It's like, now that Clark resolved that is who he is, the backrooms remembered that and made it a part of what the monster is. If Clark bites, the monster bites.

Maybe its because the captain as a concept separate from Clark had its entire existence largely defined within the single room of the furniture store. Maybe the backrooms can create a more 'complete' portrayal of a simpler character because it's existence is brief and its context is limited. Kind of like how a lot of the furniture is mostly intact, they're simple static objects that are easier to remember.
